How to Calculate a Competitor Price Index: Formula, Examples & E-Commerce Guide

How competitive are your prices compared to the rest of the market?

A Competitor Price Index helps ecommerce businesses understand exactly where their prices stand against competitors. Instead of simply looking at individual competitor prices, a price index turns market pricing data into a clear benchmark that can support smarter pricing decisions.

In this video, you'll learn:

✅ What a Competitor Price Index is
✅ How to calculate a price index
✅ The Competitor Price Index formula
✅ How to compare your price with multiple competitors
✅ Average competitor price vs. lowest competitor price

For example, if your product costs $100 and the average competitor price is $105, your Competitor Price Index is approximately 95.2 This means your price is about 4.8% below the competitor average.

But calculating price indexes manually across hundreds or thousands of products quickly becomes difficult.

With PriceRest, ecommerce businesses can automatically monitor competitor prices, analyze market positioning, track historical pricing, and use competitive pricing data to build smarter pricing strategies.
