The wedding at Cana contains a beautiful lesson about trusting Jesus that can easily get overlooked when we focus entirely on the miracle of water becoming wine.

Have you ever noticed that the people responsible for carrying out Jesus' instructions understood something the other wedding guests didn't?

They knew where the wine came from.

Imagine being there that day.

A wedding is underway. Families are celebrating. Then an embarrassing problem develops behind the scenes: the wine has run out.

Mary recognizes the situation and turns to Jesus. She doesn't offer a complicated argument or insist on a particular answer. She simply makes the need known.

What follows is fascinating.

Six large stone jars are filled with water. The servants follow Jesus' directions even though they cannot possibly understand how those instructions will solve the original problem.

Eventually, the master of the feast tastes wine so good that he's surprised it wasn't served earlier.

But he doesn't know what happened.

The servants do.

I've been thinking about how much that resembles ordinary life.

Some of our most meaningful experiences with Christ happen away from public attention. We make the difficult choice to forgive somebody. We keep our promises when we're exhausted. We continue helping people even when nobody thanks us.

We don't always recognize the significance of those moments while we're living through them.

The wedding at Cana reminds us that God can work through circumstances that initially seem unremarkable. It also reminds us that we can participate in something meaningful without understanding everything that's happening around us.

And there's another encouraging thought here: just because a season of your life has been disappointing doesn't mean every beautiful possibility is behind you.

This conversation is about Mary's confidence, the servants' willingness to act, and the lesson Jesus leaves us about faith, humility, and hope.

I hope you'll watch with an open heart and think about the ordinary opportunities for faithfulness already present in your life.
