00:36So you're a double-threaded comic-con this year.
00:39Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim.
00:41Yes, sir.
00:41Are you feeling extra love this year?
00:43Yeah, it seems a lot of people seem pretty excited about Pacific Rim.
00:47I mean, obviously it came out a couple of weeks ago, so a lot of people have seen it.
00:51And I love the film and the audience reaction has been fantastic.
00:55I mean, people seem to really, really love what Guillermo did and, you know, like the movie.
00:59So I feel really proud of that.
01:02And then, of course, Sons of Anarchy, you know, I'm always proud of.
01:05This is my baby and been like the greatest creative experience of my life.
01:09So it's always exciting to come here and talk about the show.
01:13It's fantastical in its way that there's a lot of, you know, a lot of action and, you know, a
01:18lot of drama.
01:19But at the center of it, you know, I think these people feel like real people that you can relate
01:24to.
01:24I mean, Jax is an outlaw and definitely kills the occasional person when they get on the wrong side of
01:28him.
01:29But most of his struggle is trying to figure out how to be a good father and how to be
01:33a good husband.
01:34And that's stuff that everyone goes through every day.
01:43So I grew up with a lot of gangsters and like a lot of criminals, like my dad and all
01:49of his associates were, you know, you know, not afraid to break the law, should we say.
01:54You spend a lot of time in prison and, you know, there's this kind of, I think, this assumption from
02:02people that have never come across any type of criminal mentality or criminality that, oh, they're the bad guys.
02:08And they're just like, you know, the guys I wouldn't have, you know.
02:11And you realize that people make mistakes in their lives and they're product of their environment.
02:16But we're all just human beings trying to do the best they can.
02:19I loved in the previous season when Juice had to deal with, you know, letting them know that his dad
02:24was black and the reaction from most of the club members was kind of like, you know what, let's figure
02:28out a way to not care about that anymore.
02:30Because it doesn't matter.
02:31I'm curious, would there ever be that same reaction from all of the club members was gay?
02:38That's an interesting question.
02:40I mean, I don't know.
02:44I don't know.
02:45I mean, I think that, I think in such a,
02:50like in such a, like a violent world,
02:53it would all, I would, I would almost anticipate there being more prejudice against homosexuality than color.
03:00But, you know, both in our, in the world that we've created in Sons of Anarchy have their, you know,
03:05prejudices.
03:06But it's an interesting question.
03:08I really don't know.
03:08I mean, you know, I have a lot of gay friends and, you know,
03:13I have one gay friend in particular who is one of the best fighters I know.
03:17So, you know, just because you're gay doesn't mean you can't fight.
03:20You know what I mean?
03:22Well, we just walked in about an hour and a half ago and we signed some autographs.
03:27It's pretty, pretty intense.
03:30Not just at Comic-Con, but everywhere I go.
03:32You know, this, this show has engendered the, the, the widest range of reactions of anything that I've ever been
03:40associated with.
03:42Mostly positive.
03:44People really, really, this somehow really resonates with, with the audience worldwide.
03:49And I've been all over the world since, since we started this six years ago.
03:53And so, yeah, it's, it's, it's fun.
03:57It's fun to be associated with, with a show that, um, that engenders this kind of passion.
04:06Would Clay wrap?
04:12I think Clay would do anything to stay alive.
04:15This isn't a show that you would tune into saying, I want to learn social lessons.
04:19I want to learn something.
04:20But I, I think it really has a lot to say about a lot of different topics.
04:25Specifically, uh, last season with Juice, when he had to say, okay, my dad wasn't right.
04:31And that was such a huge deal.
04:32You know, and it seemed like the guys were looking for an excuse to not care about her.
04:38Yeah.
04:40So what's your point?
04:42What the fuck are you asking?
04:44Was there a question in there?
04:46There was an observation followed by a, do you agree?
04:49I'm very happy.
04:50Why don't we, why don't, why don't I interview you?
04:53That would be far less interesting, trust me.
04:55Let's talk about what's happening now with Tara.
04:57I mean, is there any chance she's ever going to be happy?
05:02Is there any chance anyone's going to be happy on the show?
05:07Um, yeah, I don't know.
05:09I always hope that she will be, but I, I'm not sure.
05:11I, it's, it's like playing her has been a series of like seeing her dreams get destroyed systematically.
05:18Um, but I think that, uh, I think she's most interested in seeing her children, uh, get out
05:25and procuring like a life for them that is outside of this world.
05:29And so I don't think she cares much about herself anymore.
05:32I think she's focused elsewhere.
05:33I think that that violence is also kind of sad.
05:35I know, it's a little sad.
05:38It is a little sad.
05:39Is Tara's relationship with Jim kind of like the penultimate evil mother-in-law experience that anyone could ever have?
05:46It's so interesting.
05:47I mean, I think it, I mean, yes, yes, in, in certain ways, absolutely.
05:52She's a nightmare, but she's also sort of the only mother figure Tara's ever had as well.
05:59So, you know, it's sort of like, what are you going to do?
06:03Um, the devil, you know, sometimes, but, uh, and, you know, they actually have a lot in common.
06:11They're both very, very fiercely protective of their children and, you know, would kill for their family.
06:18And I mean, I think the thing that everybody in this world has in common is this like weird tribal
06:23loyalty.
06:24And when you, when you cross somebody that you love in this world, there are like deep and dark consequences.
06:32So, you know, Tara's just as bad as the rest of them in this regard, you know, none of them
06:38are solving world peace.
06:40What do you think the show in general says about the idea of forgiveness?
06:44Because there's a lot of arguments, forgiven, arguments again, forgiven.
06:49It's family.
06:50It's family.
06:51That's what I would say.
06:52And if you're in your family, in my family, there's always a lot of forgiveness and there's always a lot
06:57of bad behavior and there's always a lot of, you know, big emotions.
07:01And, you know, the, the thread of keeping any family life together is forgiveness.
07:06It's the thread of any marriage.
07:07It's the thread.
07:09So I think that's what you're seeing.
07:11I think that what people respond to so much about our show is the humanity of it is that these
07:16are people that really, really love each other.
07:18I mean, look what happened with juice.
07:20You know, that was a really interesting, you know, he crossed some lines.
07:24He, he really, they forgave him.
07:27They love him anyway.
07:28Can I say, I'm thrilled that you didn't get killed.
07:31Thrilled.
07:32I'm thrilled.
07:32I didn't get killed in real life.
07:34I'm thrilled that I didn't get killed here.
07:37Yeah.
07:38You know, and it's so funny when people say that to me, I think that's like one of the greatest
07:41compliments because that means people like truly care about the character.
07:44And I hear it every minute when I'm out.
07:47I hear it everywhere.
07:48I could be like walking down the street.
07:49People like, I'm so glad you're alive.
07:50I'm like, me too.
07:52It is so nice out today.
07:53And then they realize they're talking about the show.
07:56Yeah, man.
07:57You know, I get that a lot.
07:58So, yeah, I'm still around.
08:01When you first read that script and you knew that this was about to unfold.
08:05Yeah.
08:05I mean, did you tell your agent, start looking.
08:08Yeah.
08:09Yeah.
08:09I do that all the time.
08:10I was texting them.
08:11The second I read that line, I was like, what?
08:13That?
08:13Okay.
08:14Yeah.
08:14We need to call up the CW.
08:16I need to get on a werewolf show or something.
08:19No, you know, I, this is one of those shows, man, where this is the world we're in.
08:25This is the world that's been created.
08:27It's a violent, violent world.
08:29And I'm seeing every character navigate in it is, is incredible.
08:33So it's, it's part of the deal, you know?
08:36And I think when Opie died, you know, that was kind of the beginning of it.
08:39And seeing that we're not going to run forever.
08:41We're not gun smoke, you know, we're not, you know, one life to live, you know,
08:45it's going to eventually be where it's going to be.
08:49So I trust whatever Kurt wants to do with this character, I'm down because I've been
08:54really, really lucky because I get that reaction from everybody of you're still alive, which
08:59is pretty cool.
08:59Smallest camera, man.
09:01I know.
09:01The smallest camera.
09:03I know, but in today's society, that means good.
09:05It can.
09:06Camera.
09:06Yes.
09:07Not a penis.
09:08Camera.
09:09Camera, not a penis.
09:12I was a latecomer to the show, but I binge-watched that three seasons.
09:17And that'll knock you right on your ass, man.
09:19It really did.
09:20I mean, I had some good dreams for a little while.
09:22Really?
09:23But it was, yeah, I mean.
09:25Dreaming of Tara?
09:27A little bit of Tara, a little bit of Gemma, a lot of Jacks.
09:30Oh, you're dreaming a lot of, you're dreaming of Gemma.
09:33Yeah.
09:34You like the older, the, the, the, the, the.
09:37Controlling mother figure.
09:38Oh, you like that.
09:39Really loves you.
09:41She loves you so much.
09:43Weird.
09:44This guy's a little troubled, isn't he?
09:47You know, it's, it's really bullets before brains in Tig's case a lot of the times.
09:51But he's a loyal, loyal club member.
09:53He'll do anything for the rest of his club, guys.
09:56Him and Gemma have a little something going on.
09:59We don't know what that is.
10:00But I, I, I think from last season, the whole mistake of Pope's daughter, and then doing
10:07what they did, as you said, to my daughter, and then saving the dog at the end of the season.
10:12I think early on, Tig was that kind of guy that you love to hate and hate to love.
10:16But now it's, I think the fans are pretty much on my side.
10:20Yeah, I saved Chucky.
10:21I saved the dog, like you said.
10:23I, Tig, Tig's got a pretty big heart.
10:25He's screwed up.
10:26There's no doubt about it.
10:27He's got issues.
10:28He should be sitting down on his shrink table a lot.
10:31But, uh, I just love playing the guy, and I never know where he's going to go.
10:34And that's the fun part for me as an actor.
10:35Well, that's the question.
10:36Where, what, what's happening in this next season?
10:38Can't tell you a thing.
10:40I'd have to kill you.
10:40Yeah, can't tell you a thing.
10:42It'll be more intense than last year.
10:44Five was more intense than four.
10:45Four was more intense than three.
10:46It seems that every season, as we've come up the mountain and going down the backside now
10:51with two seasons left, and that's it, it's getting more and more intense.
10:58Five was more intense than four.
11:00Five was more intense than five.
11:01Five was more intense than five.
11:02Five was more intense than five.
