00:00:00you
00:00:30and as the elevator burst through the glass ceiling of the chocolate factory
00:00:38Charlie would gaze wildly out the window onto the city below it would be
00:00:43in that next moment that Willy Wonka would bestow the chocolate factory to
00:00:47Charlie and go on to tell him about believing in his dreams coming true and
00:00:51of course that touching sentiment which has punctuated so many stories
00:00:56throughout the generations the extraordinary promise of a life lived
00:01:01happily ever after
00:01:04Horseshit! What Willy neglected to tell him was that he was handing over the
00:01:10chocolate factory because it was on the heels of declaring chapter 11. Willy was
00:01:15under indictment for violating about a half a dozen environmental laws and owed
00:01:19about two and a half million dollars in back taxes and penalties. Before he'd
00:01:23skipped town he'd skimmed from the company and filed all his coin to a bank
00:01:26account down in the Caymans. I understand he died from a self-induced overdose in
00:01:31an opium den after he'd been diagnosed with an incurable hybrid of syphilis
00:01:35probably from all the 14-year-old hookers he'd been banging down there but then
00:01:39again that's just what I heard. Okay, cynicism aside what I'm trying to say
00:01:46here is what happens to Charlie? No really, what happens to Charlie?
00:02:01So what happens to Charlie? He would wake up facing the harshest day a person can
00:02:06face. The first day of happily ever after. So what does this have to do with me?
00:02:14Fuck if I know I'm just a waiter. Okay I'll give it a shot.
00:02:27Even in this harsh world dreams do come true. But see that's the conspiracy of it
00:02:34all. The storytellers always stop there because they know the universal burden
00:02:38that comes with the granting of the dream. The next day. I mean what happens
00:02:44to Charlie the next day and the day after that and so on? There truly is only
00:02:48one way to go. It's the old crash and burn from the
00:02:51mountaintop. I mean that's the sick reality of this world. Being human, being
00:02:58a waiter, everything is fleeting. We are never just content with what we have and
00:03:03God help you if your dreams do come true because take it from me it's a curse.
00:03:09So what's with the whole cynical Charlie analogy? Well let's just say I can relate
00:03:16to Charlie. I was once given the keys to the chocolate factory and had to wake up
00:03:23the next day and the day after that. No I wasn't literally given a oversized air
00:03:31polluting building with a bunch of little orange freaks running around. For
00:03:35me my dreams are granted true Hollywood fashion. I made it as they say the 0.01%
00:03:44but I had to wake up the next day and the day after that and as I said dreams
00:03:51are fleeting and if you're lucky enough to make it to the mountaintop there's
00:03:55only one way to go from there.
00:04:06Here's the thing. This is LA, Hollywood, you know, entertainment, whatever of the
00:04:13world, where dreams are as far as the vampires given the authority to grant
00:04:18them. And yes if the theatrics didn't give it away I'm an actor which in this
00:04:25town is virtually synonymous with waiter. Unfortunately it is the perfect job.
00:04:33Flexible schedule, minimal hours, somewhat of a livable income. You can work nights,
00:04:38weekends, allowing for the occasional audition and if you're really one of the
00:04:43lucky ones maybe a couple of lines in some poorly written show. So what
00:04:49happened? Well you'll see. But it will help you to understand how I can say
00:04:55without hesitation I quit. I quit. I absolutely cannot take it one more
00:05:01fucking day. I can say that dreams are a curse invented to torture us and that
00:05:07this town has finally defeated me. And to be honest I'm fine with it. I'm totally
00:05:13fine. I mean for the past seven years this town has chewed me up and spit me
00:05:18out onto that sidewalk down there. You see I had it. I had what I thought was
00:05:28the dream come true. The happily ever after. I mean I had the job, I had money,
00:05:37little taste of fame and I even had the girl. And at the end of it all I'm right
00:05:45back where I started. Just a waiter. So what happened? I suppose we should start
00:05:54from the beginning.
00:06:07I see everybody but it seems nobody sees me. I'm the rambler, the rambler, the cowboy, nobody finds.
00:06:21This is the day I've been waiting for.
00:06:37I'm the rambler, the rambler, the cowboy, nobody finds.
00:06:41This is the day I've been waiting for.

00:07:23I'm the rambler, the rambler, the cowboy, nobody finds.
00:07:25I'm the rambler, the rambler, the cowboy, nobody finds.

00:08:05不用了,我们走了。
00:08:07放那边吧。
00:08:09我们走。
00:08:11放那边吧。
00:08:13I just can't allow you to take the call right now, but please leave me a message.
00:08:24You might try to fight it, but try as you might, love will win in the end, my friend,
00:08:35when the time is right.
00:08:37Whoa, whoa, whoa, turn back, turn back, turn back.
00:08:40Isn't this the...
00:08:41Yeah, the Mitch O'Connor thing.
00:08:42Isn't this supposed to be ridiculously huge?
00:08:44Unbelievable.
00:08:45Film of the decade.
00:08:46Like, packing half of the town and going to where, the UK?
00:08:49Yeah.
00:08:50Are they casting for this?
00:08:51They're trying to find a lead.
00:08:52They can't find it.
00:08:53Oh my god.
00:08:54No, look at this.
00:08:55Oh.
00:08:56Okay, get this.
00:08:57No, I was working as a stand-in once with her.
00:09:00She would walk off set and just not even acknowledge anybody.
00:09:03No, I heard no one was supposed to look in her eyes on the set.
00:09:06So what's your soup today?
00:09:08It's potato cream.
00:09:09Does that have dairy in it?
00:09:10Yes, it does.
00:09:11Cream?
00:09:12Yes.
00:09:13Well, I'm not supposed to have dairy.
00:09:14Will that be alright?
00:09:19Taylor!
00:09:20What's up, guys?
00:09:21How you doing, buddy?
00:09:22What's the news?
00:09:23How are ya?
00:09:24It looks like I'm gonna get it.
00:09:25Are you serious?
00:09:26Yeah.
00:09:27Oh my god.
00:09:28Yay!
00:09:29I just talked to my manager a couple hours ago.
00:09:30She talked to the producers this morning and...
00:09:33Get out.
00:09:34It looks like it's mine.
00:09:35Oh my god.
00:09:36When do you find out?
00:09:37Tonight, before it comes on.
00:09:38Oh, that's...
00:09:39Yeah.
00:09:40That's a nice little touch.
00:09:41I know.
00:09:42God, it's awful.
00:09:43So...
00:09:44Can I get a validation?
00:09:47You're a striking and handsome individual.
00:09:53Sir, I can get you one of the hostess dinners.
00:09:55Oh my god.
00:09:56She's so good.
00:09:58We're going.
00:09:59Bye, guys.
00:10:00See ya.
00:10:01Congratulations.
00:10:02Thanks, I appreciate it.
00:10:03So what's going on with your project?
00:10:04I don't know.
00:10:05We're trying to revise the script and get some investors.
00:10:07Dave, I want that left on mute today.
00:10:10Wow.
00:10:11What a shock.
00:10:12My star employee is late again.
00:10:14I'm going.
00:10:15Well, I...
00:10:16Hi there.
00:10:17Can I borrow her a second?
00:10:18Thanks.
00:10:19I'll be right back.
00:10:21Okay.
00:10:22You know what, Taylor?
00:10:23I'm like...
00:10:24Be nice to me or I'm not going to take you out when I'm famous.
00:10:27Did you get it?
00:10:28Practically.
00:10:29I just talked to Trudy and she talked to them this morning.
00:10:31They said they loved me last week.
00:10:33They said that the part is practically mine.
00:10:35No, Taylor.
00:10:36You're kidding.
00:10:37That's great.
00:10:3820 year for sure.
00:10:39Tonight before it comes on.
00:10:40Tonight before it comes on.
00:10:43Okay, so you're here by nine.
00:10:45Yeah, if not before then.
00:10:48God, I don't know about this one so bad.
00:10:53What?
00:10:54Nothing.
00:10:55Spill it.
00:10:57Nothing.
00:10:58I just...
00:10:59Taylor, I just...
00:11:00I don't want to be the bitch.
00:11:01I just don't want you to get your hopes up.
00:11:03I know.
00:11:04I know what you're saying.
00:11:05I know.
00:11:06I know.
00:11:07Third call back.
00:11:08It's actually...
00:11:09But, I mean, it's looking good right now.
00:11:11If I get it, great.
00:11:12If I don't, I'm getting that much closer.
00:11:14Okay.
00:11:15You know, I'm going to put it out of my head for the rest of the night.
00:11:17Oh my God.
00:11:19Okay, so Shamu beaches herself at my station.
00:11:23Decides to order fried calamari, four cheese pizza, and apple cobbler.
00:11:27And then has the damn nerve to order a Diet Coke?
00:11:31I was like, sweetie, what the fuck?
00:11:35Ten second rule.
00:11:38Okay.
00:11:42Well, what's up with your application?
00:11:44Well, they sent me a letter saying that they're reviewing it.
00:11:47And I'll hear in four to six weeks.
00:11:51Okay, you realize you're not going to make it three weeks in London
00:11:55before you come running back here because you miss me so much.
00:11:59You can always come with me.
00:12:02When are you two just going to hook up and get it over with?
00:12:06Kisses.
00:12:07All right, Cheryl.
00:12:11Steven.
00:12:13Soup of the day, sir. What is it?
00:12:15It's potato cream.
00:12:17I will have to try it so I can tell my customers.
00:12:20Hey, T.
00:12:21Oh, baby.
00:12:22Can I have some of that too, please, Wonder Man?
00:12:25So what's going on?
00:12:27Did I tell you that I got a supporting lead in that short?
00:12:30Did you?
00:12:31Yeah.
00:12:32Great.
00:12:33Was it the student film?
00:12:34This is the one I was telling you about.
00:12:35The one written and directed by Tyrell Lidecker.
00:12:39What did he just... He just finished something else.
00:12:41Oh, God. Don't remind me.
00:12:42The Skid Row Saviors.
00:12:49Steven.
00:12:50What the hell is this?
00:12:53Ugh.
00:13:04We hang our dreams on the wings of vultures.
00:13:08And to pay our bills along this turbulent flight,
00:13:12we choose the obvious job.
00:13:14We are waiters.
00:13:16The most God-forsaken.
00:13:17I mean this literally.
00:13:18If there is a God,
00:13:20he has forsaken us to the likes of the man whose coffee,
00:13:23no matter if you were to serve it to him on the very surface of the sun,
00:13:27will never be hot enough.
00:13:30To the woman who is allergic to everything on this planet,
00:13:33yet still insists on eating out,
00:13:35and blames you because her food has no flavor.
00:13:38To the arguer,
00:13:40that person who will find anything and everything wrong
00:13:43with the food, the restaurant,
00:13:46you, and the world in general,
00:13:48and lay the entire fault of it onto your shoulders.
00:13:51Expressing this throughout the duration of their visit.
00:13:54To the woman who is allergic to everything on this planet,
00:13:57expressing this throughout the duration of their visit.
00:14:00Of course, in all fairness,
00:14:03it has been brought to my attention that
00:14:06I may lean towards the slightly jaded,
00:14:09and I suppose not every patron is such,
00:14:12and this might just be my own warped view of this profession.
00:14:20Now,
00:14:21I know this may look like a man who is defeated,
00:14:24a man who has lost hope,
00:14:26and partially his sanity.
00:14:29It looks that way because it is.
00:14:31And I have.
00:14:33Excuse me.
00:14:42CL Movers?
00:14:43Yes, I was calling to confirm a moving truck for tomorrow.
00:14:47Okay, great. What's your last name?
00:14:49Starks. S-T-A-R-K-S.
00:14:51And first name?
00:14:52Taylor.
00:14:53And which truck did you reserve?
00:14:55It was the 14-foot.
00:14:57And do you want to keep that same credit card?
00:14:59Yep. Okay.
00:15:00Yep, it'll be here.
00:15:01Great. And what time do you open?
00:15:03We open at 8.
00:15:04Okay. Thank you very much.
00:15:08Mr. Director!
00:15:09Let's see, I'd have to say Apocalypse Now.
00:15:12So depressing!
00:15:13It's Vietnam. It's supposed to be depressing.
00:15:15Oh, you guys, wait a minute. What about Willie Wonka and the...
00:15:18The slave plantation.
00:15:19Yeah, Willie Wonka and the slave plantation.
00:15:22He had slaves.
00:15:23What slaves?
00:15:24The Oompa Loompas. They were slaves.
00:15:26They were slaves.
00:15:28He brought them there to get away from the hornwogglers or the wandizzles.
00:15:31Right, right. As though it was going to be one great big vacation.
00:15:34You know, it's funny how you never saw any of those guys.
00:15:36You know, just sitting around in barca lounges around the Chaco River,
00:15:39you know, with tanning reflectors.
00:15:40What were they doing?
00:15:41Walking around with a hundred pound bags of flour
00:15:44and turning these vats of toxic liquids.
00:15:46Toxic chocolate?
00:15:47And Willie wasn't pulling down enough cash to spring for an album.
00:15:52To spring for an album on the Wonka skiff, huh?
00:15:54He just had to have them hand crank it, please.
00:15:56Anyways, he wasn't as bad as Grandpa Joe.
00:15:58That was a son of a bitch.
00:15:59No, Grandpa Joe was bad.
00:16:00He was a son of a bitch.
00:16:01Cute!
00:16:02What's going on?
00:16:03I'll say he's about to go off on Grandpa Joe.
00:16:06Grandpa Joe?
00:16:07Grandpa Joe, yeah.
00:16:09Let me explain something to you guys.
00:16:10I'm a writer, director.
00:16:12So I know both character and dialogue.
00:16:14I'm not fooled by petty little gimmicks
00:16:16like cute old people in nightcaps
00:16:18or fucking chocolate bars.
00:16:20Little orange midgets or red scarves
00:16:22or golden tickets.
00:16:23And that is why I can...
00:16:28Grandpa Joe was a freeloading bastard.
00:16:31Oh my God.
00:16:32I'm going to get that off my table.
00:16:34You know, Dave,
00:16:35I don't have to hear this.
00:16:37I'm going to regret asking you this,
00:16:38but what the hell are you talking about, Dave?
00:16:40Don't you ever regret asking me a question.
00:16:44Okay, first off, we've got Grandpa Joe.
00:16:46Just sitting on his fat ass in bed
00:16:47with all those other old farts, right?
00:16:49We've got 10-year-old Charlie, right?
00:16:51He's working for pennies a week, right?
00:16:53Just going through garbage cans,
00:16:55wearing these ratty clothes,
00:16:56just doing whatever he can to get money, right?
00:16:58I don't remember that part.
00:16:59Well, it's too hardcore.
00:17:00It's too political.
00:17:01They had to cut it.
00:17:02Okay, so here we are.
00:17:03Charlie's working for pennies a week, right?
00:17:06And here's his mom
00:17:07doing God knows what in the laundry business, right?
00:17:09For all we know,
00:17:10she could be, you know,
00:17:11helping those clients soil those sheets,
00:17:13if you know what I mean.
00:17:14Making a couple extra bucks
00:17:15and bet your ass on it she did.
00:17:17Anyway, let's go back to Grandpa Joe.
00:17:19Sitting on his fat ass in bed, right?
00:17:21Can't move.
00:17:22Can't do a damn thing.
00:17:23All of a sudden, what happens?
00:17:25Charlie gets a golden ticket.
00:17:27Gets to go to the chocolate factory
00:17:29to get free stuff
00:17:30and a little vacation, right?
00:17:32Well, if that's the case,
00:17:33you'd want the daughter to go, right?
00:17:34You'd want the mom to go, wouldn't you?
00:17:36I mean, you're sitting in bed.
00:17:37You haven't moved in 20 years.
00:17:38You'd want the mom to go, right?
00:17:40I mean, you haven't done anything.
00:17:41You can't even move, right?
00:17:43Fucking wrong.
00:17:44All of a sudden, Grandpa Joe says,
00:17:46Go, honey.
00:17:47You're gonna do my fucking laundry.
00:17:48I'll go.
00:17:49I mean, even though I haven't helped out
00:17:50in the last 20 years,
00:17:51I'm gonna go.
00:17:52And also, by the way,
00:17:53when I do go, don't worry.
00:17:54Just make sure you have my supper ready
00:17:55when I get back.
00:17:56And by the way,
00:17:57when you do my laundry,
00:17:58make sure you don't put too much bleach
00:17:59in my fucking nightcap
00:18:00because it makes my scalp itch.
00:18:02Fucking freeloader.
00:18:07I am so worried about you.
00:18:14It's brilliant.
00:18:16Fucking brilliant.
00:18:32It's a horrible habit, I realize.
00:18:35Okay, so I ripped off
00:18:36the whole Willy Wonka thing from Dave.
00:18:38I admit it.
00:18:39You thought I was jaded.
00:18:41I picked this up from him, too.
00:18:43The smoke break,
00:18:44a waiter's brief sanctuary
00:18:46from the inevitable insanity
00:18:48that ensues during every shift,
00:18:50as well as the quintessential forum
00:18:52to philosophical reflection,
00:18:54as you can clearly see.
00:18:56It's a time to swap stories,
00:18:58gossip, and yes,
00:18:59a quick nicotine fix.
00:19:03It's funny.
00:19:04I resisted for a long time.
00:19:06So did Steph.
00:19:09Man, did I fuck that up.
00:19:11Man, did I fuck that up.
00:19:13Anyway, we'll get to that.
00:19:15I was a nonsmoker for a long time.
00:19:17I claimed to be preserving my lungs.
00:19:19Then it began to dawn on me
00:19:21that I live in a city
00:19:23with air the hue of rotting meat.
00:19:25I figured I couldn't be doing
00:19:27too much more damage to my lungs
00:19:28than inhaling this air on a daily basis.
00:19:31That's the thing.
00:19:32You find little fixes
00:19:33to get you by,
00:19:34get you through another hour.
00:19:35It becomes a steady stream
00:19:37of caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol.
00:19:39You know, you resist at first,
00:19:41usually due to some physical health concerns.
00:19:43Some, like myself,
00:19:44hold out longer than others.
00:19:46However, you forge on year after year
00:19:48and your mental health
00:19:49becomes of greater concern.
00:19:51You're faced with
00:19:53the realization
00:19:55that such things are quite literally
00:19:57a necessity.
00:19:59They become the reason
00:20:00you can pull yourself out of bed
00:20:01in the morning
00:20:02to give it one more day.
00:20:04It gets you through another hour,
00:20:06another shift,
00:20:07another failed audition.
00:20:09It's what helps you
00:20:10get to sleep at night.
00:20:13Well,
00:20:16maybe I'll be able to quit
00:20:17when I embrace my new life
00:20:19in suburbia.
00:20:20They probably don't let you
00:20:21smoke at PTA meetings,
00:20:22do they?
00:20:33Okay, ladies,
00:20:34we all set to order?
00:20:35Yeah, I'll have the
00:20:37caper chicken, please.
00:20:38Okay, excellent.
00:20:39For you?
00:20:40Chicken Caesar salad, please.
00:20:42Chicken Caesar it is.
00:20:43And for yourself?
00:20:46What happened to
00:20:47the rigatoni with marinara?
00:20:49Um,
00:20:50we have a rigatoni with pesto,
00:20:52we have a rigatoni with white wine sauce.
00:20:54Let me repeat,
00:20:55marinara?
00:20:56Oh, okay.
00:20:57Actually, that's what I'm trying to say.
00:20:58We don't have a marinara
00:20:59on the menu.
00:21:01When was it taken off?
00:21:04Well, I've been here
00:21:05about three years
00:21:06and we've never
00:21:07had a rigatoni
00:21:08with marinara.
00:21:10I know I have had
00:21:11the marinara here.
00:21:13Okay.
00:21:14Um, well,
00:21:15would you like me to see
00:21:16if the chef can make you one?
00:21:18Well,
00:21:19how much would it be?
00:21:20It certainly wouldn't be
00:21:21as expensive
00:21:22as these others.
00:21:23Well, I'll tell you what,
00:21:24just let me go check
00:21:25real quick.
00:21:27Hey, I know we don't
00:21:28have it on the menu,
00:21:29but can you make
00:21:30a rigatoni with marinara?
00:21:32Well,
00:21:33I've got some good news
00:21:34and some bad news.
00:21:35The chef says
00:21:36we can make you
00:21:37the marinara sauce.
00:21:38The bad news is
00:21:39it's going to cost you
00:21:40your firstborn child.
00:21:46Taylor, what's wrong?
00:21:48I love these ladies
00:21:49who come in here
00:21:50and have absolutely
00:21:51no sense of humor
00:21:52and then lecture me
00:21:53on what's on the menu.
00:21:54Taylor,
00:21:55you need to relax.
00:21:57Hey,
00:21:58you're on the right track.
00:22:00Yeah, you wish.
00:22:02This is exactly
00:22:03what I had in mind.
00:22:05Mr. Taylor,
00:22:06there's a certain
00:22:07zen quality to it.
00:22:09Yes,
00:22:10the zen
00:22:11of napkin folding.
00:22:13I love having
00:22:14to do this every day.
00:22:16Um,
00:22:17if you could do me a favor
00:22:18and in the event
00:22:19that I'm ever
00:22:20spiritually moved
00:22:21by the art
00:22:22of napkin folding,
00:22:23if you could go ahead
00:22:24and just take
00:22:25this knife right here
00:22:26and, you know,
00:22:27thrust it through
00:22:28my heart
00:22:29and I would
00:22:30love it
00:22:31if you could
00:22:32do me a favor
00:22:33and I would love
00:22:34it if you could
00:22:35thrust it through
00:22:36my heart.
00:22:37Yes,
00:22:38and should it be
00:22:39this particular knife?
00:22:40I have chosen
00:22:41this knife, yes.
00:22:42Okay,
00:22:43I'm going to
00:22:44check my tables.

00:35:37peach.
00:35:38I just finished doing a national commercial.
00:35:41What?
00:35:42A background for Kotex Maxipads.
00:35:45You're an asshole.
00:35:48It must have been a real stretch pretending you were on the rag.
00:35:53Bitch.
00:35:55Don't you have chocolate?
00:36:01I know that makes me barf.
00:36:08Would you shut the fuck up Chuck, okay?
00:36:15Can I just finish my story for Christ's sake?
00:36:24Okay.
00:36:25Anyway, so she leaves, okay?
00:36:26And me and this kid, we just book it upstairs.
00:36:28I mean, we got sex on the brain.
00:36:30We like tear open the door, start ripping off our clothes, and we're going at it like,
00:36:34like, like.
00:36:35Okay, you guys, when are you just going to give in and get it over with?
00:36:38Really?
00:36:39Yeah, I'm sick and tired of the we're just best friends bullshit.
00:36:43Easy, easy.
00:36:44You know what I'm sick and tired of?
00:36:45What's that, babe?
00:36:46I'm sick and tired of you guys keeping on interrupting my story.
00:36:51Then you should continue.
00:36:52Can I?
00:36:53Can I?
00:36:54Seriously?
00:36:55Can I go?
00:36:56Okay.
00:36:57Go.
00:36:58Where was I?
00:36:59Sex on the brain.
00:37:00Yes, sex on the brain.
00:37:01So we're like going at it like, like, oh God, like wildebeest in heat or something, you
00:37:05know?
00:37:06We're like man and we're like, rawr, you know?
00:37:08Okay.
00:37:09So anyway, yeah, no, seriously.
00:37:10So then like two o'clock rolls around or like 2.15 or whatever.
00:37:13So we're like, ah, we better go check the laundry, okay?
00:37:15So he gives me a piggyback downstairs.
00:37:17Are you guys still naked?
00:37:19Yes, Chuck, we're still naked.
00:37:22Okay.
00:37:23So we're going down into the garage where the...
00:37:26Laundry.
00:37:27Washer and dryer.
00:37:28Yes, where the washer and dryer are.
00:37:30So we open the door, surprise, happy birthday me.
00:37:34There's mom, grandma, and who do you know is in the corner?
00:37:38My boyfriend.
00:37:39Oh my God.
00:37:40No, I'm so serious.
00:37:41That's gotta suck.
00:37:42If you're that guy, that's gotta suck.
00:37:46Naked.
00:37:47What are you doing?
00:37:48Hello?
00:37:49Yes.
00:37:50Uh-huh.
00:37:54Really?
00:37:56Okay, great, great, great.
00:38:00Okay.
00:38:02I will, definitely.
00:38:04Okay, Trudy, thanks.
00:38:06Yes, okay.
00:38:08Bye.
00:38:09What happened?
00:38:11Suspense.
00:38:21Next time.
00:38:32Hey, next one, hunty.
00:38:35We're proud of you, guy.
00:38:36Thanks.
00:38:40You okay?
00:38:41Yeah.
00:38:44She told me I was their second choice.
00:38:46It's just what you want to hear.
00:38:47No, it's great.
00:38:48Yeah.
00:38:49This is how close you come.
00:38:50Let me slam the door in your face.
00:38:52God, I just...
00:38:55I want something to make me feel like I'm at least on the right track.
00:38:58Yeah, but you aren't, Taylor.
00:39:00Steph, don't...
00:39:01No, I'm serious, you are.
00:39:03No, I know it sounds cliche, but it's true.
00:39:06The fact that you not only got this and as horrible as it is to get that close and not get it,
00:39:11Taylor, you were their second choice out of so many people.
00:39:15God, you're definitely on the right track.
00:39:19It's just a matter of time.
00:39:25Let's just...
00:39:26Let's just head back in.
00:39:27Yeah.
00:39:28Okay.
00:39:36That's the worst.
00:39:38Getting your hopes up and then having them crushed.
00:39:41You know, it's such a fickle business.
00:39:44Especially when you know you lost the job to some new it kid
00:39:47who's probably the nephew of one of the execs.
00:39:50You know, that's the thing.
00:39:51You tell yourself not to get your hopes up, but it's next to impossible.
00:39:56I'm just the mere thought that this might be the one,
00:40:00the one that gets you out of the apron once and for all
00:40:03and validates all the money you've spent on acting classes, headshots,
00:40:07all the bullshit that you put up with working in the restaurant,
00:40:11the one that finally rewards you for the insane choice you've made
00:40:15moving to this fucked up town against your parents' will.
00:40:20And then you get that call.
00:40:22And your agent or manager tells you one of those all too familiar phrases, you know?
00:40:28Well, they're going in a different direction.
00:40:30You're getting closer, kid.
00:40:32Or, of course, my favorite, you were their second choice.
00:40:37Well, let's just say it makes the waitering that much more unbearable.
00:40:42And I swear, I don't know what it is,
00:40:44but it always seems to coincide with the worst customers imaginable.
00:40:49You know the ones I was telling you about?
00:40:51I swear to God, it's like they smell it.
00:40:54You know, like a shark smells the blood of their wounded prey.
00:40:58You know, they start circling, waiting for just the right time to strike.
00:41:04And so, let the feeding frenzy begin.
00:41:15How you folks doing tonight?
00:41:17Folks? What, are we out on the ranch?
00:41:21Uh, can I start you off with something to drink?
00:41:24Why, do we look like we need starting?
00:41:26Uh-oh, I'm pissing them off.
00:41:28You know what they say when you piss off your waiter, right?
00:41:31Tell you what, could you, uh, I'll sauce up some desserts?
00:41:35Sure, the desserts are on the back.
00:41:37Holy crap, $6.95 for a slice of cheesecake?
00:41:41What, does it come on a silver platter that we get to take home?
00:41:44Actually, sir, um, it's New York cheesecake flown in fresh, and it's a very sizable slice.
00:41:51What, is it as big as my head?
00:41:54All right, I'll tell you what, we'll take two of them.
00:41:56We'll take two of the $6.95 slices of cheesecake.
00:41:59Okay, um, anything to drink?
00:42:03You want a coffee? All right, we'll take two coffees.
00:42:09Hey there, cowboy, when you're back there, could you lasso yourself up a side a smile?
00:42:15Well, uh, okay, why don't I lasso you up a new hair weave while I'm at it instead of that fucking Chia Pet you got on your head?
00:42:23You know, I love these guys who come in here acting like this is an open mic night, showing off for their fat-ass girlfriends.
00:42:29You know, it's $7 for Christ's sake.
00:42:32You know what, you tell me how much you want to pay, and I'll give you the difference.
00:42:35No, no, no, how about this, I'll give you $7 just to shut the fuck up.
00:42:39Hi there, how are you guys doing tonight?
00:42:42We're ready. My wife will start with a Cobb salad.
00:42:46Bart, tell the boy no bacon, no eggs, no blue cheese crumbles, and salad dressing on the side.
00:42:54No bacon, no egg, no blue cheese, and salad dressing on the side.
00:42:59Yeah, I got it. Ma'am, would you like to have the house salad?
00:43:02Essentially, that's what you're ordering, and I'll save you a couple of dollars.
00:43:05Did she say a house salad?
00:43:07Sir, it's...
00:43:09No, she said Cobb salad.
00:43:11Fine, what else?
00:43:13She'll have the chipotle fettuccine with the cream sauce.
00:43:17What is chipotle?
00:43:19It's a type of spicy pepper. Actually, it's marked there by the red star.
00:43:24It's a bit spicy.
00:43:26Actually, sir, it's very spicy.
00:43:28That will be fine.
00:43:30Okay, and for you?
00:43:32I'll have the Tuscany chicken.
00:43:34Oh, the Tuscany?
00:43:36No, this one. Tuscany chicken.
00:43:37You holding up okay?
00:43:39To be honest, I could use a little pick-me-up, Chuck.
00:43:43You've had a tough one. I'll let that one slide.
00:43:56Okay, here we are. Chipotle fettuccine, Cobb salad, and the Tuscany chicken.
00:44:02Weren't we supposed to get the salad first?
00:44:04Well, our chef was so fast, I figured I'd...
00:44:07No need to explain. We'll just deduct it from your tip.
00:44:10This looks awfully plain.
00:44:12Would you like a different salad?
00:44:14Maybe if he told me this is all I'd be getting on it, I'd have gotten egg on there.
00:44:18Okay, I thought she said no egg.
00:44:21Could she get some egg?
00:44:23Steven, I need a said egg.
00:44:25I thought he said no egg.
00:44:27I thought so too.
00:44:30Thanks.
00:44:32I don't know what the hell to do about this.
00:44:35Obviously, your chef made this too spicy.
00:44:38Sir, as I mentioned, it's a very spicy dish.
00:44:42Very spicy? You didn't say very spicy.
00:44:45We wouldn't have ordered if it was very spicy.
00:44:48Would you like anything else?
00:44:50Well, not if it's going to burn my mouth.
00:44:53Peter, here, you take that off.
00:44:56What's wrong with it?
00:44:58It's too spicy.
00:44:59It's too spicy.
00:45:01Of course it's too spicy. That's why there's a red star by it.
00:45:05I realize that, Peter. I told him that about a half a dozen times.
00:45:09But unfortunately for us, they're assholes.
00:45:12Well, does she want anything else?
00:45:14No.
00:45:15What's wrong with this?
00:45:16Too spicy.
00:45:17Well, it's supposed to be spicy. That's why there's a red star by it.
00:45:20Red star by it.
00:45:21Okay, great.
00:45:24Would you like me to clear these plates for you?
00:45:26Well, that would be nice, since they've been sitting there for 15 minutes.
00:45:30Sorry, it just looked like you were eating up until about 30 seconds ago.
00:45:33I keep wondering when we're going to lose the attitude.
00:45:35Fine. Did you want to take these home?
00:45:37Oh, you mean this soggy, bland salad and this shoe sole roadkill you call chicken?
00:45:45Okay, I take it that's a no.
00:45:47Aren't you supposed to offer us dessert?
00:45:49What, are you in a rush to get us out of here or something?
00:45:52Did you want dessert?
00:45:53God only knows what a catastrophe that would be.
00:45:55I guess the bill would be fine.
00:46:04Here you go.
00:46:05Don't go anywhere.
00:46:06Sorry, we don't take Discover. Visa, MasterCard, and American Express only.
00:46:11Well, the girl took it the last time we were here.
00:46:13Actually, sir, in the three years I've worked here, we've only taken Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.
00:46:19Fine. I'm tired of your back talk.
00:46:21Here.
00:46:26Don't fucking...
00:46:42Sir, I'm sorry your credit card didn't go through.
00:46:45You see? He's doing this just to spike me.
00:46:47How many times did you run it?
00:46:49Four.
00:46:52I'm sorry about the inconvenience, sir.
00:46:55I'll tell you what, we'll take care of your meal this evening.
00:46:58Taylor, could I talk to you?
00:47:02You're buying the schmuck's dinner?
00:47:05Well, he seems pretty upset with your service.
00:47:07My service? Why, can't you see that this guy is the almighty ruler of the land of assholes?
00:47:12Taylor, all he did was ask...
00:47:14God, this guy's gone out of his way the whole night to be an absolute shithead.
00:47:17Taylor, you better calm down right now.
00:47:19You know, we could charge guys like this an asshole surcharge.
00:47:23Look, all I wanted to know was your site.
00:47:26Finish them up and then you can go home.
00:47:28And don't worry about your side work tonight.
00:47:30I'm sorry.
00:47:32You got the tab?
00:47:34Yes. If you need anything else, I'll be in the office.
00:47:43Well, folks, I guess Peter is picking up your tab, so if there's anything else I can get you...
00:47:48Just our food.
00:47:50Food?
00:47:52Yes, the food you were going to wrap up for us.
00:47:54But, sir, you told me you didn't want it wrapped.
00:47:56I don't remember saying that.
00:47:58Well, yes, I asked you if you wanted it and you said it tasted like soggy roadkill.
00:48:03But did I say I didn't want it?
00:48:05Yeah, I said, I take it that's a no.
00:48:07And I didn't say no, did I?
00:48:09So unless I have my wrapped food out here in two minutes, I'll be speaking to the manager again.
00:48:13Well, let me go grab those for you before they get thrown out.
00:48:16Your food.
00:48:18Your food.
00:48:20Oh, of course.
00:48:22Madam, I believe you had the house salad, didn't you?
00:48:25No, it was the Cobb salad.
00:48:27That's right, the Cobb salad.
00:48:29Although, you didn't want egg.
00:48:31Of course, now you want egg, and even though I try to accommodate you, you treat me like shit.
00:48:35I'm sorry?
00:48:37It's a little on the soggy side.
00:48:39Well, madam, that might have something to do with the preparation.
00:48:46Okay.
00:48:48And you, sir.
00:48:50Uh-huh, yes.
00:48:52Oh, the Tuscany chicken.
00:48:54The roadkill Tuscany chicken, is that what you're referring to?
00:48:57It's actually pronounced Tuscany chicken, and I believe we have a special cut just for you this evening.
00:49:17There you are.
00:49:19Might I say, it's not only been a pleasure, but a privilege serving the two of you this evening.
00:49:24Good night.
00:49:26That's my tip-up.
00:49:28You okay?
00:49:30I can't do this anymore.
00:49:32Taylor, you just got...
00:49:34No, Stephanie, I can't do this anymore.
00:49:37Coming in here, day in, day out, putting up with this shit, for what?
00:49:41To have a free schedule so we can go and audition and then get shot down, audition and get shot down.
00:49:47For what? To have a chance to be up there?
00:49:50To be in here?
00:49:52I mean, are any of us that fulfilled as artists doing these little bit parts for deodorant commercials
00:50:00and these babbling 20-something feel-fucking-sorry-for-me-the-90s-are-so-tough independent films?
00:50:06I mean, what are we doing this for?
00:50:09I mean, what are we doing this for?
00:50:11That we come in here, day in, day out, drowning in pools of envy over these people,
00:50:18hoping that we'll get that one shot, that one big fucking break.
00:50:23You know, we all try to pretend like, oh, that's not why we do it.
00:50:27You know what? Any one of us would sell our mother's fucking souls to be up there for just five minutes.
00:50:35I am so sick of it.
00:50:36I am so sick of it.
00:50:38I am just sick of being a waiter.
00:50:48Taylor.
00:50:50I'm sorry. I have no right to go off on you guys like that, especially you, of all people.
00:50:54You know, I admire you so much.
00:50:57You're one of the few people I know who can actually, does this from her heart.
00:51:02I just wish I could be more like that.
00:51:04Taylor, I think you underestimate yourself.
00:51:07I think you are like that.
00:51:09I'm so numb. I don't even know what I'm doing anymore.
00:51:12Where are you going?
00:51:15I don't know. Go grab a drink.
00:51:18Are you going to be okay?
00:51:20Yeah. I just need to chill out and get pissed drunk.
00:51:25Okay, call me if you need to.
00:51:27I will.
00:51:34Bye.
00:51:43Kind of makes you think.
00:51:47Yeah.
00:51:50He really needs to get laid.
00:51:53Definitely.
00:51:55Put that on.
00:51:58Tea time.
00:52:01What's shaking?
00:52:02I don't even know where to fucking begin.
00:52:09Boilermaker.
00:52:11Shit. That bad, huh?
00:52:13You have no idea.
00:52:15Where's the rest of the gang?
00:52:17They're back at the restaurant. I just freaked out on everyone.
00:52:20So you want to talk about it?
00:52:22Nah. I don't know.
00:52:24I had that audition last week. I'm waiting to hear about it.
00:52:30The audition?
00:52:32I just got word.
00:52:35It's hard to hear that.
00:52:37Send a consolation to Rachel Rowland-House.
00:52:40Hey, I thought it might.
00:52:49I don't know.
00:52:51Maybe it's time to just get a little nine-to-fiver, you know?
00:52:54Get a cool SUV, a couple of nice suits,
00:52:58maybe a laptop and settle down in some place like Tustin.
00:53:02Sounds quaint.
00:53:04I'm just getting tired of it.
00:53:06Which part of it are you tired of?
00:53:08The whole thing. The whole getting excited over
00:53:11shitty little background non-speaking roles
00:53:14on some unsolved myths show
00:53:18where, you know, they have some psychic cow
00:53:21who reveals a cluster of crop circles out in the back 40
00:53:25of some Midwest ranch.
00:53:27Then you call your family back home to tell them.
00:53:30You tell everyone in your hometown,
00:53:32not only because your son is on TV,
00:53:34but as everybody knows,
00:53:36that cow lives on that ranch down the street from them.
00:53:39So your folks recorded it on the VCR you sent them for Christmas.
00:53:43So they can replay it and pause a few frames of you
00:53:47that actually made it past the editor.
00:53:49You understand my plight here.
00:53:51Exactly.
00:53:53When is it my turn?
00:53:55You know, when does that producer come
00:53:57and tap me on the shoulder with that
00:53:59can I talk to you a minute speech
00:54:01and offers me that dream job
00:54:04that makes my career
00:54:06and gets me the girl
00:54:08and makes me a bunch of money.
00:54:10You've had some jobs that sounded pretty interesting.
00:54:13Yeah.
00:54:15Like workshops and maybe a student film
00:54:18or a short here or there.
00:54:19You know, it's different.
00:54:21How?
00:54:23Well...
00:54:25What?
00:54:27Well...
00:54:29Because it hasn't gotten you on any V.A.P. lists
00:54:31or put your face on the side of a building on sunset.
00:54:34Tell you're not going to want to hear this,
00:54:36but you're starting to sound
00:54:38what I might call
00:54:40a whore.
00:54:42God.
00:54:44Are you listening to yourself?
00:54:46What am I?
00:54:47What do you mean?
00:54:49It's a simple question.
00:54:51What am I?
00:54:53Well, you've been serving me drinks here
00:54:55for the last three years.
00:54:57I guess that makes you a bartender.
00:54:59Wrong.
00:55:02I'm a musician.
00:55:06I know what you're thinking.
00:55:08Then what the hell am I doing here?
00:55:11Let me explain something to you, Taylor.
00:55:14If I play music,
00:55:15I'm not a musician.
00:55:18Whether in some stadium
00:55:20in front of thousands of people
00:55:22or sitting in my job
00:55:24with my keyboard on my lap,
00:55:26the point is
00:55:28I play music
00:55:30because it's in my heart.
00:55:32It's who I am.
00:55:34The rest is just a venue.
00:55:37This can be an evil town.
00:55:39There's no other city
00:55:41with such an intense pulse.
00:55:43But it has no heart.
00:55:47What are you doing?
00:55:49I'm rolling up my pant legs.
00:55:51Why?
00:55:53To wade through all the bullshit you're slinging me.
00:55:55You fucking prima donna.
00:55:57Now I hear you.
00:55:59I don't know.
00:56:01Just one more thing
00:56:03before I boot your ass out of here.
00:56:05Going back to what you were saying.
00:56:07Now, I don't mean to knock people
00:56:09working in an office and wear suits.
00:56:10But just take a look at some of them.
00:56:12And take away the SUVs,
00:56:14the condos,
00:56:16the laptops,
00:56:18and the secure setting.
00:56:20And what are they?
00:56:29How about one more?
00:56:33How about I cut you off
00:56:35and you thank me tomorrow?
00:56:37All right.
00:56:38That and I ran out of money
00:56:40about three rounds ago.
00:56:43Come on, put it on my tab.
00:56:45You know we don't run tabs here.
00:56:47Lucky for me, huh?
00:56:49Get the fuck out of here, you degenerate.
00:56:51Thanks, I owe you one.
00:56:53You owe me a hell of a lot more than one.
00:56:55Fucking actors.
00:57:00Now Pat, I am gonna miss.
00:57:02He has been a friend since I've been out here.
00:57:04He's coached me through most of my ups and downs
00:57:06and knows me better than most.
00:57:08I believe having a good bartender
00:57:10is an under-emphasized necessity in L.A.
00:57:13And Pat is as good as they come.
00:57:15I mean, he's one-third mixologist,
00:57:17one-third philosopher,
00:57:19one-third therapist.
00:57:21Now life can be trying, downright abusive.
00:57:23Therefore, it is important to numb yourself
00:57:25to life's little cruelties
00:57:27as often as possible.
00:57:29Now, you will want to designate
00:57:31a drink of choice.
00:57:33And as the shadow of designer martinis
00:57:35and vodka energy drinks
00:57:36looms over the world of booze,
00:57:39us purists must go back
00:57:41to the true roots of alcohol consumption.
00:57:43And therefore,
00:57:45I present, for your medicinal purposes,
00:57:48the Boilermaker.
00:57:50It's quite simple.
00:57:52Fill a shot glass with whiskey.
00:58:01And serve with a mug of beer.
00:58:07Mmm.
00:58:09Making sure that you are swigging
00:58:11as opposed to sipping.
00:58:13Sipping tends to mire the process,
00:58:16thus reducing the Boilermaker's efficacy.
00:58:20Mmm.
00:58:22They ease the pain
00:58:24and warm the soul.
00:58:26And despite some potentially
00:58:28uncomfortable after-effects,
00:58:30they at least offer temporary relief
00:58:32of one's burden.
00:58:33Thus allowing for a warm
00:58:35sense of acceptance
00:58:37and even confidence.
00:58:39Enjoy.
00:58:43Stephanie, I really don't give a shit.
00:58:45He's been late for work every day this week.
00:58:47He was supposed to be here
00:58:49at 10.30 to open,
00:58:51and he's still already 15 minutes late,
00:58:53and I haven't seen him anywhere.
00:58:55Okay, you know, Peter,
00:58:57I'm not making any excuses for him, okay?
00:58:59I'm just a little worried about him.
00:59:01He got a bad call last night.
00:59:03His audition?
00:59:05Yeah, Peter, his little audition.
00:59:07You know, you guys really crack me up.
00:59:09You go around and get yourselves
00:59:11all worked up for these little jobs
00:59:13that come around,
00:59:15and then you're all blown away
00:59:17when you don't get them.
00:59:19You guys are just going to have to learn
00:59:21that's a part of this business.
00:59:23So if you can't hack it,
00:59:25maybe it's time to move on.
00:59:27I'll just quit like you did.
00:59:29What?
00:59:31Nothing.
00:59:33No, he's not here.
00:59:35May I ask who's calling?
00:59:37Oh, Trudy, Taylor's manager, Trudy.
00:59:39Hi.
00:59:41Yeah, no, I know.
00:59:43I've tried calling him, too.
00:59:45He's not answering either of his phones.
00:59:47Yeah, I'm a little worried about him.
00:59:49He took the news pretty...
00:59:51Oh, my God, how?
00:59:53Oh, my God, from what?
00:59:58Seriously?
01:00:00Today? Today? Okay.
01:00:01I'll keep trying him.
01:00:03I'll try both his phones.
01:00:05Okay, okay, thanks.
01:00:07All right, bye.
01:00:09What's that all about?
01:00:11Okay, you guys are never going to believe this,
01:00:13but the producers want to see Taylor today.
01:00:15What?
01:00:17I thought they gave that part to the other guy.
01:00:19No, apparently they called Trudy this morning.
01:00:21Wait, who's Trudy?
01:00:23His manager.
01:00:25That guy's manager?
01:00:27No, Taylor's manager,
01:00:29and I can tell you the story
01:00:31Hey, you know, no, we're not.
01:00:33Okay, anyways,
01:00:35so they called Trudy this morning,
01:00:37and apparently he died.
01:00:39Taylor died?
01:00:41No, the other guy, Charles.
01:00:43He died?
01:00:45Yeah.
01:00:47Oh, my God, how?
01:00:49From toxic shock.
01:00:51Oh, my God, from what?
01:00:53A tequila burn.
01:00:55Ew, you're fucking with us.
01:00:57Morning, ladies.
01:00:59What's up, Chuck?
01:01:01So they called Trudy this morning,
01:01:03and apparently the guy that got Taylor's part
01:01:05died last night.
01:01:07Oh, my God, how?
01:01:09Toxic shock.
01:01:11Oh, my God, from what?
01:01:13A tequila burn.
01:01:15No, you're fucking with me.
01:01:17You're all just fucking with me right now.
01:01:19No, I swear to God, he was out partying
01:01:21because he got the part, and you know what?
01:01:23It's not important because Trudy and I
01:01:25Well, who's Trudy?
01:01:27Who's that guy's manager?
01:01:29No, Taylor's manager.
01:01:31Oh, that guy?
01:01:33No, Taylor, okay?
01:01:35And Trudy and I have to get a hold of him,
01:01:37and he's not answering our calls.
01:01:39Well, shit, you guys know Taylor.
01:01:41Probably went partying last night over at Pat's,
01:01:43got shit-housed, and passed out with the lights on
01:01:45and a beer in his hand,
01:01:47and his pants half off.
01:02:02Hi, this is Taylor.
01:02:04I can't take your call right now,
01:02:06but please leave me a message.
01:02:12Well?
01:02:14Answering machine.
01:02:16You didn't leave a message?
01:02:18Gee, let me try that.
01:02:20What's his number?
01:02:32It's his answering machine.
01:02:38Taylor, pick up!
01:02:40Pick up!
01:02:49Fucking Dave.
01:02:58I thought you had anything better to do with your time
01:02:59than to keep up the jungle noises
01:03:01for the next 20 minutes I wouldn't have answered.
01:03:03Pat's, huh?
01:03:05Yep.
01:03:06Boilermakers, huh?
01:03:08Yep.
01:03:09A lot of them?
01:03:11Yep.
01:03:13Oh, Steph wants to say hi.
01:03:15Hi, T.
01:03:17Hey.
01:03:20No, if I knew it was you,
01:03:22I would have picked up.
01:03:25What?
01:03:27Oh my God, how?
01:03:30Oh my God, from what?
01:03:35You're fucking with me.
01:03:37Seriously?
01:03:41Okay.
01:03:43Okay, I will.
01:03:45Alright, alright.
01:03:46Yeah, I'll call right now.
01:03:48Okay.
01:03:49Alright, bye.
01:03:57Trudy.
01:04:02Tango!
01:04:03I got it!
01:04:04You got it!
01:04:05I got it!
01:04:09I got it!
01:04:10I got it!
01:04:27Well,
01:04:28I had the series for a few months
01:04:30and it
01:04:31was amazing.
01:04:33Oh,
01:04:34don't ask.
01:04:37I truly
01:04:39thought I'd made it.
01:04:41But,
01:04:43changes happen,
01:04:44characters get written out,
01:04:46it's all part of it.
01:04:48It's like
01:04:49Charlie getting the chocolate factory
01:04:51and then being evicted.
01:04:53Leaving him worse off for
01:04:55how can he go back to
01:04:56living in that old crappy cottage?
01:04:59So,
01:05:00where do you go when the money runs out?
01:05:05How's he taking it?
01:05:06Is he bummed?
01:05:07He seems to be doing okay.
01:05:10Well, when does he come back to work?
01:05:11In a week.
01:05:14God, that sucks.
01:05:15I mean,
01:05:16didn't he make enough money?
01:05:17Well, no.
01:05:18I mean, he had to pay off his student loans
01:05:19and he had to get a new car, so.
01:05:21Well, he's coming in tonight
01:05:22to watch the show with us, isn't he?
01:05:24Yeah, his first episode.
01:05:25Oh, I am so excited for him!
01:05:28I'm so excited!
01:05:30Well,
01:05:31did you tell him about London yet, or?
01:05:33Yeah,
01:05:34I told him the second I got word, so.
01:05:36When do you leave?
01:05:37Um,
01:05:39just a few weeks.
01:05:43Are you okay?
01:05:44Yeah, no.
01:05:45No, I'm fine.
01:05:48Taylor!
01:05:49What's up, guy?
01:05:50How you doing?
01:05:51Hey, what's up?
01:05:52Holy shit.
01:05:53There's my man.
01:05:54How you doing?
01:05:55Yeah, how are you?
01:05:56Good to see you.
01:05:58I missed you so much.
01:05:59How are you?
01:06:00I missed you, too.
01:06:01Okay, let him go.
01:06:04Hey.
01:06:05Nice of you to stop by.
01:06:07Yeah, I wanted you to miss me.
01:06:13Always did.
01:06:17So, man, where'd you get shit can?
01:06:20Asshole.
01:06:21They wrote me out.
01:06:22Well, they wrote my character out.
01:06:23Oh, that's too bad.
01:06:25Well, it's nice to have you back.
01:06:26Thanks.
01:06:27By the way, you're on in a couple minutes.
01:06:28I know.
01:06:29I'm gonna go grab my schedule real quick.
01:06:30I'll be right back.
01:06:31Well, don't be too long.
01:06:35Sad, you're finally coming back,
01:06:37and we're gonna be leaving.
01:06:38Yeah, well, it's only gone for a couple of months.
01:06:40You're gonna be gone for...
01:06:41Let's not think about it right now.
01:06:42Your debut's only a couple minutes away.
01:06:44I'm gonna go grab my schedule.
01:06:45No, no, it's okay.
01:06:46I'll get it.
01:06:48Hey, you must be...
01:06:49You must be Taylor.
01:06:50Hey, how you doing?
01:06:51I'm Todd.
01:06:52Oh, hey, Todd.
01:06:53Good to meet you.
01:06:54Nice to meet you.
01:06:55How long have you been here?
01:06:56Well, I moved here about three weeks ago.
01:06:57Oh, right.
01:06:58From where?
01:06:59It's a place called Greencastle.
01:07:00Indiana boy!
01:07:01Yeah, you know it?
01:07:02West Lafayette, right up the...
01:07:03The 231.
01:07:04Awesome.
01:07:05Are you an actor?
01:07:06Yeah, yeah.
01:07:07I'm trying to get a job.
01:07:08I'm trying to get a job.
01:07:09I'm trying to get a job.
01:07:10I'm trying to get a job.
01:07:11I'm trying to get a job.
01:07:12I'm trying to get a job.
01:07:13I'm trying to get a job.
01:07:14I'm trying to get a job.
01:07:17Just so you know what the training year is going to be,
01:07:18I figured I'd, you know, give it a year or so,
01:07:20see how it goes.
01:07:22Sounds like you're doing pretty well.
01:07:24Waiter.
01:07:27Excuse me.
01:07:36And we're getting counseling, and I...
01:07:38Once we get married, you know?
01:07:40I think that that will kind of...
01:07:44Yeah, because that's such a commitment.
01:07:45Finally.
01:07:46I know.
01:07:47I know.
01:07:48It's so crazy.
01:07:49I know.
01:07:50We're set.
01:07:51The next thing for me is gotta be the directorship of R&D.
01:07:52Hey, you okay?
01:07:53Yeah.
01:07:54Yeah, I'm good.
01:07:55Come on, you guys!
01:07:56You're gonna miss it!
01:07:57Hurry up!
01:07:58Yes!
01:07:59Look, it's on!
01:08:00It's on the shelf!
01:08:01Woo!
01:08:02Yeah!
01:08:03Woo!
01:08:04Woo!
01:08:05Woo!
01:08:06Woo!
01:08:07Woo!
01:08:08Woo!
01:08:09Woo!
01:08:10Woo!
01:08:11Woo!
01:08:12Woo!
01:08:13Woo!
01:08:14Woo!
01:08:16Woo!
01:08:18Woo!
01:08:19Woo!
01:08:20Woo!
01:08:21Woo!
01:08:22Woo!
01:08:23Woo!
01:08:24So what are you gonna do next?
01:08:25I have absolutely no clue...
01:08:26That's his page...
01:08:27That's his page...
01:08:38No, a huge project.
01:08:39No, a huge project.
01:08:40It like involves all the polyglots...
01:08:41He's casting?
01:08:42Did she just talk to him?
01:08:43He wouldn't talk to me.
01:08:44He wouldn't do it. He told us.
01:08:46Shh.
01:08:50You guys, they're shaking.
01:08:52Shh.
01:08:54I don't know where he is.
01:09:00What's going on?
01:09:02Taylor.
01:09:04They choked on it.
01:09:06What?
01:09:08He's working on the big project.
01:09:10Come on, Taylor. Just tell us what it is.
01:09:12They're having trouble finding a lead.
01:09:14He wants me in his office the next week.
01:09:16Oh my god.
01:09:18Oh my god.
01:09:20There's only one problem.
01:09:22They're shooting it over in London.
01:09:24I'd have to be over there for a few months.
01:09:26I just can't think of anybody I know over there.
01:09:28I think he got pneumonia.
01:09:34Oh, what the hell.
01:09:36That calls for a toast.
01:09:38Yes, it does.
01:09:40Cheers.
01:10:04As truly unbelievable as it was
01:10:06getting the job,
01:10:08it's still hard not to have expectations.
01:10:10You know, I think the couple years after that
01:10:12were the ones that really crushed me.
01:10:14I mean, I thought this time
01:10:16was really the one.
01:10:18I mean, how could I go wrong?
01:10:20It was a Mitch O'Connor film.
01:10:22You know, I was a shoo-in for superstardom.
01:10:24The Chocolate Factory
01:10:26was mine again, this time for good.
01:10:28I had the career, the money,
01:10:30the pending fame,
01:10:32and
01:10:34I even had the girl.
01:10:39The girl was the most important thing I had.
01:10:44I did go to London for three months
01:10:46to shoot the film.
01:10:48Steph's Theatre Company was actually right across town
01:10:50from the soundstage.
01:10:52I stayed for a few weeks after we wrapped,
01:10:54and then she asked
01:10:56if I'd stay with her through the holidays.
01:10:58She said it would be romantic
01:11:00to spend Christmas in London.
01:11:02But
01:11:04I got too restless.
01:11:06You know,
01:11:08I had to get back to what I was sure
01:11:10to be my newfound fame.
01:11:12I became distant with her,
01:11:14and she read me instantly.
01:11:16It's weird.
01:11:18I became what I always
01:11:20hoped that I wouldn't.
01:11:22At that point, I was almost lusting for it.
01:11:24Looking back,
01:11:26those few months
01:11:28in London were probably the best I've ever had.
01:11:30And
01:11:32not even because of the job.
01:11:34You know,
01:11:36it's funny.
01:11:38You think you know what you want in this world,
01:11:40and you overlook the most important things.
01:11:44Anyway, she asked me to come back and visit,
01:11:46and I claimed I was too busy.
01:11:48But she knew it was bullshit.
01:11:50I mean, she's too good a person to put up with that.
01:11:52The funny thing is,
01:11:54she tried to get me to see how I'd changed,
01:11:56but it didn't work. I was caught up in it.
01:11:58So
01:12:00she left me.
01:12:02That's the thing.
01:12:04I don't blame her.
01:12:10To say that the movie tanked
01:12:12would be a colossal understatement.
01:12:14I mean, my role,
01:12:16as cut back as it became,
01:12:18still awarded me the most atrocious
01:12:20reviews.
01:12:22But before it did,
01:12:24I'd already bought a new car,
01:12:26new condo,
01:12:28and basically
01:12:30screwed my ass off.
01:12:34The windfall of follow-up work
01:12:36that I anticipated never really came.
01:12:38I got a couple of decent jobs.
01:12:40I did two or three pilots,
01:12:42none of which got picked up.
01:12:44It took me less than
01:12:46two years
01:12:48before I actually had to declare bankruptcy.
01:12:54At that point,
01:12:56I tried getting back in touch with her,
01:12:58you know.
01:13:00I even spent my last two grand
01:13:02to fly out and see her.
01:13:04I thought if I showed up on her doorstep
01:13:06with a couple of dozen roses,
01:13:08that she'd see that I'd learned my lesson
01:13:10and she'd forgive me.
01:13:12Well, it's not the case.
01:13:14In fact, quite the contrary.
01:13:20I came back broke,
01:13:22the calls for work slowly diminished,
01:13:24and I eventually
01:13:26had only one choice.
01:13:28Well, shit,
01:13:30I had to work after all.
01:13:34I thought going back the first time
01:13:36was bad.
01:13:38Being back in the restaurant
01:13:40was beyond awful.
01:13:44After some time went by,
01:13:46Steph and I smoothed things over.
01:13:48I mean,
01:13:50at least enough to be polite to one another.
01:13:52But
01:13:54it was never the same.
01:13:56How could it be?
01:13:58I asked for one last chance
01:14:00and
01:14:02it was then
01:14:04that she told me
01:14:06that she had met somebody
01:14:08that he was good for her.
01:14:10You know,
01:14:12that's great.
01:14:14I'm happy for her.
01:14:16I heard she
01:14:18I heard that
01:14:20she moved back and got married.
01:14:22She still does theater,
01:14:24but she also caught a big break
01:14:26as a TV producer,
01:14:28which is great.
01:14:30I mean, it suits her.
01:14:32She really has the head for it.
01:14:34It was probably about
01:14:36five or six months ago
01:14:38I emailed her.
01:14:40Called a last-ditch effort.
01:14:42I saved it
01:14:44so I wouldn't forget.
01:14:48Steph,
01:14:50I'd give it all back
01:14:52just to have you.
01:14:54I'm sorry it took me so long
01:14:56to see that.
01:15:00You know, she responded
01:15:02thank you.
01:15:04That means a lot to me.
01:15:06It's nice, but
01:15:08but that was it.
01:15:10I didn't hear anything more.
01:15:12So I figure
01:15:14by now she's happily married,
01:15:16successful in her career,
01:15:18kids.
01:15:22So are you beginning to understand
01:15:24why I'm doing what I'm doing?
01:15:26Or quitting, that is.
01:15:30You see now, in the end,
01:15:32to be honest,
01:15:34I don't believe there is
01:15:36such a thing as happily ever after.
01:15:38And
01:15:40dreams can only break your heart.
01:15:42So...
01:15:44Well, that's my story.
01:15:46And now you know
01:15:48why I'm leaving.
01:15:50I wonder how I'll look in a cubicle.
01:15:54Couldn't be any worse than being a waiter.
01:16:02Hello?
01:16:04Hey kiddo, it's me.
01:16:06Get this, you got a series.
01:16:08You're gonna be a regular starting next season.
01:16:10What?
01:16:12Yeah, well, that would have been
01:16:14really great a couple weeks ago.
01:16:16Trudy, I
01:16:18appreciate everything you've done
01:16:20for me, but I really, I just
01:16:22I really don't want this anymore.
01:16:26What?
01:16:30Wait. They're not seeing anybody else?
01:16:34I've never even heard of that before.
01:16:40You know, I just
01:16:42I don't want to go through this again.
01:16:46Okay.
01:16:50Okay.
01:16:54Alright.
01:16:56What time do I have to be there?
01:17:00Okay.
01:17:02Alright. Bye.
01:17:10Hey.
01:17:18Hey, how you doing?
01:17:20Hello.
01:17:22Uh, Taylor Starks?
01:17:24Yeah, she's expecting you. Have a seat, please.
01:17:26Oh.
01:17:28Okay.
01:17:30Okay.
01:17:56I saw that movie you did.
01:17:58Oh. Great.
01:18:00Which one?
01:18:02A few years back. You know.
01:18:06I liked it.
01:18:18Yes, Ms. Peterson.
01:18:20Yes, he's here. I'll send him right back.
01:18:24She'll see you now. It's your first door
01:18:26and your right.
01:18:28Okay. Great. Thanks.
01:18:36Hey, how you doing?
01:18:38Steph.
01:18:42Hey, T.
01:18:56How are you?
01:18:58Good. Good.
01:19:02You called me in?
01:19:04Yeah.
01:19:06We heard the most talented actor in Hollywood
01:19:08was unemployed.
01:19:10Oh, sure.
01:19:16How have you been?
01:19:18I'm good.
01:19:20It's really good to see you.
01:19:22I'm good.
01:19:24It's really good to see you.
01:19:44Fools, fools
01:19:46don't fall in love
01:19:48in ordinary
