Panic on the Turkish-Syrian border... Turkish soldiers using tear gas to repel protesters angry at the tight security preventing Kurdish refugees on the other side from crossing into their country.
The Kurds had been lining up in the thousands, driven from their homes in northern Syria by Islamic State fighters.
They say their only choice was to flee or die.
And as their numbers at the frontier grew, and the soldiers tried to maintain order, sympathizers from a nearby Turkish village did what they could to help, throwing bread and water to the refugees on the other side.
Escalating tension on both sides, however, soon exploded into a volley of tear gas.
Eventually, the Kurds were allowed to cross, but as more come in their wake, Turkey's leaders say they are being forced to deal with a border crisis that is only likely to get worse.
