Jeti Kuala Merlimau, Merlimau N 27, March 05, 2011
Local fishermen in Jeti Kuala Merlimau are struggling to increase their catch in order to make ends meet in the Straits of Malacca. This is due to receding number of fish and severe pollution in Sungai Merlimau, which flows directly to the sea.
The river is so polluted that a fisherman suggests that the name of the river be changed to Sungai Air Hitam (Black Water River). A factory which operates upstream in the Merlimau town is the cause for pollution, but several complaints by fishermen and villagers have fallen on deaf ears
