00:00I'm sorry I had to send for you like this, Hoppy, but I thought it was the best way to handle things.
00:06Say, what is this? Has the whole ranger service gone loco? What's going on?
00:13You'll find out soon enough. Oh, Hoppy, I want you to meet Colonel Gonzales of the Mexican Secret Service.
00:20How are you, Colonel? I've heard about you.
00:23And I've heard about you, Mr. Cassidy. Many fine things.
00:26Fine. Oh, sit down, Hoppy.
00:34Hoppy, we're up against it. The Fox and a new gang of his are working down around El Rio.
00:41They're raiding below the border again.
00:44So I've heard. El Rio used to be my home range.
00:49Yes, I know. That's the reason I wanted you for this job.
00:53You know the country down there, you see, and the people.
00:57Meaning you want me to bring back the Fox? Exactly.
01:01I want his gangs broken up once and for all.
01:05Well, anything I can do, count me in. But I still want to know why I was brought in under arrest.
01:13Mr. Cassidy, you have a reputation of being decent, upright, and only square.
01:22Well, I'm glad folks feel that way about me.
01:25But, as such a man, you can be of no use to us.
01:31Hoppy, I'm going to ask you to do the biggest thing you've ever done in your life.
01:36Now, you can take it or leave it.
01:39I know how much your reputation means to you, but I'm asking you to throw it away.
01:44I'm asking you to make yourself despised, hated by everybody, even your best friends.
01:54You're asking quite a lot, ain't you?
02:03I know it. More than I have the right to ask any man.
02:08But I have no choice, Hoppy.
02:11We're at the end of our rope, and we have got to fight fire with fire.
02:17How are you aiming to have me go about things?
02:20I want you to go down to El Rio a discredited, dishonorable man.
02:25One who has double-crossed his friends.
02:28The rest I leave to your own judgment.
02:34I don't like to refuse, Major, but I know how you feel, senor.
02:39But something must be done.
02:41Otherwise, all the good work you helped do in bringing about friendship between my people and yours will be undone.
