In its new facility called The Weather Factory, vehicles are subjected to -40° Fahrenheit conditions to test the car’s heating and defrosting performance. Heavy snow tests the strength of the windshield wipers. One wind tunnel is designed to monitor the noise level of the vehicle’s components while another tunnel can mix wind, rain, snow, and varying temperatures to test the car’s cooling and heating systems. The factory will open in Germany in 2017.
