Chile's latest crime wave, Poronazo, is hitting citizens all over the country.
It refers to a carjacking attempt while the vehicle is pulling in or out of a parking space. Poronazo has increased dramatically in Chile, with 851cases reported in 2016. The attacks generally occur at night, with criminals operating in groups of three or more.
But now, some Chileans are fighting back. A recent case captured on security camera shows passers-by helping a victim and chasing away the would-be thieves. Hopefully, onlookers will keep up the pressure to protect each other from other potential carjackers.
