According to a report by the Washington Post, the White House is planning to withdraw its nominee to head the Council on Environmental Quality after her nomination failed to gather momentum and some Senate Republicans questioned her expertise. Kathleen Hartnett White, who would have overseen environmental and energy policies across the government, had described the belief in "global warming" as a "kind of paganism" for "secular elites" in a 2016 interview. President Donald Trump first announced Hartnett White's nomination in October before re-submitting her nomination to the Senate in January. White has a long history of questioning established science on climate change and once dismissed the possibility that carbon dioxide is a pollutant and called it "the gas of life on this planet."
