00:00We're the Krat Brothers.
00:01I'm Martin.
00:02And I'm Chris.
00:02And it might look like we're just out for a walk in the woods.
00:05And we are.
00:06But this is a special walk because we're taking an orphan pup for her first stroll.
00:11A wolf pup.
00:14She's about four weeks old.
00:16And this is the time a wolf pup first starts coming out of the den.
00:22You ready to explore?
00:23Huh?
00:25It's hard to believe this cute little pup is going to grow into the top predator of the north.
00:32It's a big world out there.
00:36You like exploring the wild, huh?
00:39Her fur is really warm and ready to take on the cold northern weather.
00:47And her teeth are pretty sharp, too, already.
00:52And even though she's small, not so tough, and could never survive on her own yet,
00:58she's already doing something very, very, very wolf-like.
01:02She can already howl.
01:04And because howling is all about talking to other wolves,
01:07we've got to be those other wolves and get her going.
01:11Howl!
01:12Howl!
01:13Howl!
01:14Howl!
01:16Howl!
01:17Howl!
01:18Howl!
01:19Howl!
01:19Howl!
01:24Imagine if we could really, really talk to wolves.
01:27If we could talk to them so well that we could join the wolves and run with the wolf pack.
01:32What if?
01:40On adventure with the coolest creatures
01:42From the oceans to the trees
01:44The furthest crabs are going places you never get to see
01:49Going with their creature friends
01:51Get ready, it's the hour
01:53We're gonna sing some animals today with Creature Power.
01:58Gonna go wild, wild crash, gonna go wild, wild, wild crash.
02:03Gonna go wild, wild crash, gonna go wild, wild, wild.
02:07Cheetah, Speed and Lizard, Glide.
02:09Shark and Flight and Lime Ride!
02:11Gonna go wild, wild, crash, gonna go wild, wild, wild, crash.
02:16Gonna go wild, wild, crash, gonna go wild, wild, wild —
02:20GO Wild, wild, wild, z anymore!
02:24Little Howler.
02:31Woo-hoo!
02:32Yeah! That was the best adventure yet.
02:36You're back.
02:38Oh, and how about that wolf pack?
02:41Their long-distance running power is so impressive.
02:44Woo, but with no wolf powers,
02:46running like that can really tire you out.
02:48I was tired just watching.
02:50But that cougar surprise sure woke me up.
02:57Huh?
03:00I didn't put this in my backpack.
03:03It's kind of round, soft, and fuzzy.
03:08It's breathing and licking my hand.
03:13It's a wolf cub.
03:27I'm going to name him Little Howler.
03:30Aw.
03:31He's like a ball of wool.
03:35How did he learn to howl already?
03:38A wolf pup can howl when he's three weeks old
03:40and first come out of the den at four weeks.
03:42Little Howler's just four weeks old.
03:45When did he get into your backpack?
03:47How did he get into your backpack?
03:49Why didn't we notice him get into your backpack?
03:51I have no idea.
03:53Me either.
03:54We didn't see a pup in the pack.
03:56Not that pack.
03:57I mean the wolf pack.
03:58Where did he come from?
04:00Oh, we've got a mystery on our hands.
04:03The mystery of the Little Howler.
04:09I know how to figure out where.
04:11Just like when Jimmy loses the keys to the Tortuga.
04:16To find, just retrace your steps.
04:19Okay, let's see.
04:21It all started this morning.
04:24When we were running through the woods
04:25getting started on another adventure.
04:41Oh, Chris, I think you put a little too much ah in your ah-woo.
04:45What are you talking about?
04:47That was 100% wolf howl.
04:49If I'm a wolf, I'm not singing that song.
04:54Man, I had a dream that some horrible howling zombies
04:57were circling the Tortuga.
05:01We were really howling.
05:05Oops.
05:07Where are you guys running off to
05:09so early in the morning anyway?
05:11We're on a wolf run.
05:12Wolves are nature's best marathoners.
05:17They just run and run
05:19until they get what they're looking for.
05:21And we're looking for wolves by running like wolves.
05:25So, you're doing a wolf marathon?
05:28Trying to catch up to the world's best long-distance runner by running?
05:32I think you'll be back before breakfast.
05:35Yeah, to wolf down some breakfast.
05:38That's the only wolf we'll be seeing this morning.
05:44Well, I've got a backup plan.
05:47Just in case we can't catch up or keep up.
05:49I've got the old trusty plan B right here in my back pocket.
05:55A moose suit?
05:56Uh, I don't know, Chris.
05:58How'd that work out for you with the gazelle suit and the cheetah?
06:01Whoa!
06:03Oh!
06:09She tackled me so fast.
06:11That was different.
06:13The cheetah's a sprinter.
06:14The wolf is a marathoner.
06:16With the wolf, I'd have time to deactivate.
06:18Wolf track!
06:20Definitely dog-like.
06:22Dog claws always show up in the tracks.
06:25Four toe pads, one heel pad, six inches from toe to heel, four inches wide.
06:32Definitely too big to be a fox or coyote.
06:35Oh, yeah.
06:36It's definitely wolf.
06:38And more than one.
06:39A wolf pack!
06:47I'd say about five different wolves.
06:50What?
06:51What part of the track is telling you that?
06:54Three silver ones.
06:55Two black ones.
06:57What?
06:57Where do you see that?
07:00And one white one.
07:02How in the world can you tell that from these tracks?
07:05Well, actually, you kind of have to look at the big picture.
07:08Whoa!
07:10Now that's a wolf pack!
07:12Well, who would have thunk it?
07:14Maybe the best way to find wolves is just to be out in the wild talking about wolves.
07:19Come in, Tortuga.
07:20This little boy who cried wolf calling Tortuga.
07:22Little boy who cried wolf telling you...
07:24We found wolves.
07:26Forget it, Martin.
07:27Wolves on the move.
07:29Okay, check that.
07:30We're running with the wolves.
07:38Oh, and we're not the only ones.
07:40Ravens!
07:41Ravens are following them, too.
07:50Hey, it helps to have wings to follow wolves because they have a fast pace called a lope.
07:55A wolf can lope all day long, covering 100 miles with hardly a rest.
08:00Now that's what I call a marathon.
08:03Hey, what do you call it when they pick up the pace even faster?
08:06More tiring?
08:08A chase!
08:09An all-out run!
08:10Woo-hoo!
08:11They're after something!
08:30Where do they get that kick?
08:32I know they can marathon all day, and then sprint when they need to.
08:38Do you hear a horse?
08:40Sounds bigger than a horse.
08:43Sounds like it has antlers.
08:44How can you tell that?
08:46From that moose charging towards us.
08:56Oh, so that's what woke us up.
08:59Yeah, so much for sleeping in.
09:02Aw, Chris and Martin were screaming because they were being chased by the big, bad moosey-woosey.
09:09That's right.
09:10Moosey-woosey-woosey-woosey-wo.
09:14And when I looked at the screen, the moose was almost on top of you.
09:21The moose is on the loose!
09:33Whoa!
09:35Whoa!
09:38Whoa!
09:40Whoa!
09:40Whoa!
09:40Whoa!
09:40Whoa!
09:41Whoa!
09:42Whoa!
09:48Whoa!
09:51Whoa!
09:57Uh-oh!
09:59Okay, so let me get this straight.
10:03So the wolf pack was starting to surround you.
10:06Hey!
10:11was he with the pack then no at four weeks he's too young to go on the hunt
10:17well he's attacking my controller come on jimmy his teeth are just coming in he's got to try them
10:23out on something well all the adult wolf teeth were already in i didn't want any of the big dogs
10:29trying those out on my moose behind so i knew before they closed the circle around me i had
10:37to do something chris deactivate get out of that moose suit
10:45hooks don't work that way well then work them the way they work run sometimes these creature
10:52power suits are too creature-y but remember a moose can't outrun a pack of wolves for long
10:59you'll have to think of something else soon
11:11can't run anymore think of something else antlers could they be the weapon against wolves
11:32antlers work on one wolf
11:35uh uh-oh but not on a pack because most only have antlers on one end and wolves can surround
11:42a moose and attack from all ends
11:47and a moose can swim
11:59chris are you okay what are you doing the moosey paddle
12:06the moosey paddle
12:09good one bro the moosey paddle
12:12oh come on guys give me a little rest
12:15chris while you cool off i'll track the pack
12:18wait up
12:20oh no moose hooves
12:22how am i gonna deactivate with moose hooves
12:25so where were you during all this
12:29little howler
12:30well if we keep following the trail of the story you're going to pop up somewhere
12:35how'd you get out of the moose suit chris
12:37well it wasn't looking too good
12:39until i got a tip on a twig
12:42from a moose
12:48well look at that
12:50a moose can grab and hold sticks with its lips
12:56deactivate
12:58back on wolf patrol
13:02what was going on with you martin
13:04well i had fallen way way way behind the wolves
13:07and when i finally caught up with them
13:09i discovered they had caught up with a moose
13:16woo hey guys
13:17what did the wolf say to the ravens
13:21how's it going
13:24you like that huh
13:27what what
13:28me am not slow
13:29i don't have wings
13:30must be nice to be a raven
13:32at least you can fly
13:35oh i get it
13:37you warn the wolves if anyone approaches
13:43and they take you to lunch
13:45smart wolves and ravens make a great creature team
13:49oh you gotta be kidding me
13:53you wolves just ran ten miles
13:55pulled down a two thousand pound moose
13:56devoured it
13:57and now you're off and running
13:59again
14:01okay i'm coming
14:06what were you whining about chris
14:09whining
14:09who was whining
14:11i wasn't whining
14:16it's a little howler
14:17i think he's hungry
14:19we'll need a special formula to feed him
14:22i'll look it up in the database
14:25hurry koki
14:26he's breaking my heart
14:28oh
14:31here it is
14:31wolf formula
14:32i'll mix it up
14:35check it out
14:36i'll cheer him up with a creature joke
14:38hey little howler
14:40what did one wolf puppy say to the other wolf puppy
14:44how's it going
14:50you gotta be kidding me
14:52wolf humor it's funny
14:53how you doing
14:57i still don't know how you could ever have missed him out there
15:02well it was one thing after another
15:05nature was really keeping us on our toes
15:08where did little howler come from
15:10well after a lot more running
15:13i followed the wolf back to their day
15:16and when i got there
15:17they were all snoozing with full bellies
15:20did you see any puppies
15:22no there weren't any puppies around
15:24and the wolves were all lounging around snoozing
15:26and i just sat down to rest for a second
15:29and i guess i must have fallen asleep for a while
15:32because when i woke up
15:33chris was snarling at me like a cougar
15:37i wasn't snarling like a cougar
15:40i was trying to wake you up
15:41and tell you
15:42a cougar
15:42a cougar
15:58a never before seen face off between a huge cougar
16:02or you could call him a mountain lion
16:03or panther
16:04or catamount
16:05we've got to film it
16:07all taken care of
16:08the creature pod is recording
16:22no wolf alone could defeat a cougar
16:25but together
16:25they have the power of the path
16:30so
16:34i
16:36i
16:39i
16:40i
16:40i
16:42i
16:43i
16:43i
16:54i
16:55i
16:59Hey, quit fighting my Creature Pod.
17:04He's gonna kill that Creature Pod.
17:08Hey, Martin, didn't you say the Creature Pod was recording?
17:13Play it back. Maybe there's a clue.
17:16Okay, okay. Here, fight this monster.
17:23Got it.
17:29Fast forward it.
17:32Stop.
17:33Do you see that?
17:35Yeah, it's...
17:38Little Howler!
17:45So that's when you got into my backpack.
17:48And now we know where he came from.
17:50Mystery solved.
17:52Yeah, there must have been a den hidden in those rocks.
17:55And a mother who's looking for him, too.
17:58All right. Now we've got a new Creature Mission.
18:02Yeah, we've got to figure out how to get Little Howler back home
18:05without a whole pack of wolves being mad at us
18:08for taking them in the first place.
18:14Okay, let's get going, then.
18:22Okay, we're at the coordinates.
18:24Yeah, a mile away from the den site
18:26so the wolves won't be scared by a giant flying turtle.
18:29Here, take the wolf power discs.
18:32Hide off the Creature Power Press.
18:33Thanks, Aviva.
18:35Do they have marathon power?
18:37Oh, you'll be able to run, all right.
18:39And run and run and run and run.
18:41We are!
18:42But the door's not opening.
18:44Oh, yeah.
18:46I locked it for flying mode.
18:50Little Howler's mom must have been in the den.
18:53Maybe Little Howler has brothers and sisters in there, too.
18:56Yeah, the mother wolf will spend most of her time in the den
19:00with the pups for the first two months.
19:02Shh.
19:04Coast is clear.
19:06Great.
19:06We won't get into any trouble.
19:08The pack must be out hunting.
19:10Oh, I can't wait to see what's going on in there.
19:15Empty.
19:16Ah, there's no mother wolf, no pups.
19:19Why did they all leave?
19:21That's why.
19:23Because they knew that huge mountain lion
19:25had discovered their densite
19:27and was a danger to the pups.
19:32Uh-oh.
19:34Let's get out of here.
19:35Wait, don't run.
19:36Right.
19:37She'll see us as prey.
19:39Nothing triggers a predator like prey on the run.
19:43We need the power of the pack.
19:48Activate wolf power.
19:59Nobody's going to mess with us
20:00in our wolf power suits.
20:02Uh, tell that to the cougar.
20:04Ha!
20:11Thanks for the hair brushing.
20:13Go, go, go, go, go, go, go!
20:17Oh, we can't beat her in the short game for long.
20:19Switch to marathon running.
20:21On your mark and take go!
20:28She's tiring.
20:30A sprinter like her can't keep up the pace for long.
20:36Now we've got the cougar beat
20:38because we wolves are marathoners.
20:41Wow, I feel so light,
20:42like I could run like this forever.
20:44That's the power of the wolf.
20:52Amazing.
20:53We've only been wolves for two minutes
20:55and already a raven has found us.
20:58Well, if he found us,
20:59he can find other wolves.
21:01And maybe lead us right to Little Howler's pack.
21:08Follow that raven.
21:14Follow the wolf brothers following that raven.
21:21This is awesome.
21:23It's like a wolf man,
21:24and the raven is my sidekick.
21:26Maybe the raven thinks it's the other way around.
21:29But either way,
21:30because wolves and ravens are so tight,
21:32I don't think it'll be too long
21:34before this raven leads us right to the pack's new...
21:37Uh-oh.
21:41We forgot to consider one very important point of wolf behavior.
21:45A wolf pack doesn't like strange wolves.
21:48Our only hope is to speak wolf language.
21:53How's it going?
21:55Bro, that accent won't do it.
21:57Well, what...
21:59Sit.
22:02Roll over.
22:04Pet tricks?
22:06How are pet tricks gonna save us?
22:08Body language.
22:09Wolf body language.
22:16Yeah.
22:17By acting submissive,
22:19a wolf can turn off an attack from another wolf.
22:22If they recognize us as one of their own.
22:25And because we activated Touching Little Howler,
22:28we smell familiar,
22:30like a pack member.
22:32We are in.
22:34Oh, yeah.
22:36Chris, Martin.
22:38What about Little Howler?
23:00Now we're talking.
23:02Oh, woo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo.
23:06Howling.
23:07That's what wolves do to keep the pack together.
23:10With our little wolf puppy howling free and in the wild.
23:24Hey, it's me, Chris, again, and Martin, and here's someone else you know, Little Howler, except she's a lot bigger,
23:34look at her go, two months older and ready to run, she's changed completely, she's huge, wow, she used to
23:42be just this big,
23:43and then in two months, boom, she's a big, romping, three-month-old wolf pup, are you ready to run?
23:50Look out, woo-hoo, let's do it, time to run with the wolf, she loves chasing, whoa, she's speedy, I'm
24:04going to catch you, guess not,
24:11yeah, whoa, remember when Little Howler was just a little puffball? She was just four weeks old, the aged wolf
24:20pups first leave the den, okay, you're going to need a little help getting up there,
24:24want to climb this mountain? There you go, there you go, you're almost at the top, you're almost, you did
24:32it, yay!
24:34That was then, now she's a long, sleek, running wolf, who can get around on her own, check it out,
24:42her whole face has changed, she once had a short, round snout,
24:48and now it's long and pointed. Little Howler's three months old and a lot bigger, but she's not strong enough
24:56yet to run with the pack on a long-distance wolf-style marathon.
25:00She won't be ready for another few months, then she'll look like this, an adult-sized member of the wolf
25:06pack,
25:07and then she'll be able to keep up with the pack on their hunting missions.
25:13The wolf is a top predator of the north. That means everyone has to be on lookout when a wolf
25:21pack is around.
25:22Small prey like porcupines and badgers, all the way up to huge animals like the moose, which the wolves have
25:30to work together as a pack to catch.
25:35To learn how to hunt, a wolf pup runs and plays, but also has to get enough rest so she
25:44can grow up to run with the pack.
25:48We'll see you on the creature trail.
26:07To find out more about cool animals and collect your own Wild Kratz creature powers,
26:13go to the Wild Kratz website at pbskidsgo.org.
26:18We'll see you there!
