00:00 Will you try a toothpaste with okra and egg powder ingredients?
00:05 This and other product innovations that DOST has provided in Katrina's report.
00:10 Is your budget affected by the high price of eggs?
00:18 There's a cheap alternative for that, the egg white powder.
00:22 The idea came from the College of Home Economics Department of Food Science and Nutrition
00:27 of UP Diliman and was approved by a private cooperative.
00:31 They made the egg white powder form, it's easy to transport,
00:37 it doesn't have cracks so bacteria or other pathogens can easily enter.
00:46 Now it's safe because it's a powderized form and easy to transport.
00:53 Egg white and egg yolk powder can be used to bake eggs.
00:59 It's cheaper and longer shelf life.
01:02 Aside from egg yolk, egg white powder is another innovation
01:06 that the Department of Science and Technology has provided.
01:09 This toothpaste is made from okra.
01:12 This is a toothpaste made from okra hydrocolloid.
01:15 The hydrocolloid is the slimy part of the okra.
01:18 The calamansi peelings are also used.
01:21 Before, it was useless and calamansi peelings were thrown away.
01:27 Now, it can be used as dietary fiber and it's good for our health.
01:33 Aside from dietary fiber that can be mixed with your favorite drink,
01:37 there's also a capsule supplement that can cleanse your gut or intestines
01:42 and helps with digestion.
01:44 From peely pulp, peely oil is made as an alternative cooking oil.
01:49 Through innovations, nothing is wasted.
01:52 It can also help farmers and small businesses.
01:56 These simple innovations can help our countrymen
02:01 who don't have a big life.
02:04 DOST hopes that by introducing these products,
02:09 more people will be able to adopt these innovations.
