Haryana's Nuh witnesses communal tensions during yatra | Mewat | Gurugram | Monu Manesar | Khattar

On July 31, clashes erupted between two groups in Haryana's Nuh district, the district which has a significant Muslim population. The violence occurred during the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra, where a mob was seen attacking, pelting stones and setting vehicles on fire.

During the incident, Gursewak and Neeraj, two home guards, lost their lives, and ten police personnel sustained severe injuries when the mob attacked a Gurugram Police team en route to Nuh. The injured individuals were receiving treatment at Medanta Hospital. The death toll in Nuh increased to five.

The Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra, organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and flagged off by BJP district president Gargi Kakkar from Gurugram's Civil Lines, was accompanied by a police contingent. However, the yatra was interrupted near Nuh's Khedla Mod, where the procession was attacked with stones and vehicles were set on fire. The clash was apparently triggered by an objectionable video posted on social media by a Bajrang Dal activist. Small boys of 10-12 years were seen throwing stones on the cars with older people, you can see this in this video.

Earlier, there were reports suggesting that the violence occurred due to rumors of Monu Manesar joining the yatra. In viral video surfacing on the social media Monu can be seen stating he is going to join the yatra and requesting fellows to join the yatra as well.
Monu Manesar, a cow vigilante who was previously charged with the murder of two Muslim men in Bhiwani district, stated that he did not participate in the yatra on the advice of the VHP to prevent the tensions from escalating.

As a result of the violence, several policemen were injured, and two home guards, Neeraj and Gursevak, lost their lives. The injured officers were taken to Gurugram's Medanta Hospital, including Hodal Deputy Superintendent of Police Sajjan Singh, who sustained a gunshot wound to the head, and an inspector who suffered a bullet injury to the stomach, reported by India Today.

The unrest in Nuh also spread to Sohna, where incidents of stone-throwing, sloganeering, and arson were reported during the violent protests in Gurugram.


In response to the volatile situation, Gurugram and Nuh were brought under prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). To contain the escalating communal tension, mobile internet services in Nuh district were suspended until August 2, as directed by the Haryana government.

In light of the situation, the Haryana government dispatched additional forces from neighboring districts to Nuh, and they were even considering using helicopters to deploy forces. The police evacuated around 2,500 men, women, and children who sought refuge at a Shiv temple in Nuh.
