00:00 He's overseas, former US president and front runner for 2024 GOP primaries,
00:05 is besieged with more indictments than he has impeachments.
00:09 And his latest from DOJ special counsel, Jack Smith, charges with
00:12 trying to defraud a legitimate president-elect
00:15 and the overturning and stealing of the 2020 US presidential elections.
00:19 His legal team is seeking, among others,
00:22 to have the judge and the DC federal court recused and block special counsel's request
00:27 to limit sharing evidence this close to them, to the public.
00:30 SVOA's Veronica Balderas Iglesias explains.
00:34 "A sham" is how former president Donald Trump, who is running again for the job,
00:41 described his latest indictment when he rallied on Saturday
00:45 in front of his supporters in Columbia, South Carolina.
00:48 Last week, he appeared in court for allegedly conspiring
00:52 to overturn his presidential election laws in 2020.
00:55 "The prosecution will have a hard time proving that,"
00:59 argued Trump's lawyer, John Loro, on ABC's "This Week" show.
01:03 "Whether or not he was acting corruptly,
01:05 whether or not he was acting with a consciousness of guilt, with criminal intent,
01:09 he'll never be able to prove that."
01:11 After Trump posted online what appeared to be a revenge promise on anyone who goes after him,
01:18 prosecutors asked a federal judge to limit the information
01:22 he and his team can publicly share about the case.
01:26 The legal team has until Monday to respond.
01:29 Loro commented on CNN.
01:31 "The press and the American people in a campaign season have a right to know
01:36 what the evidence is in this case, provided that this evidence is not protected otherwise.
01:41 So we're going to oppose it."
01:42 Former Vice President Mike Pence, who is also a presidential hopeful
01:47 and could be called to testify in the case,
01:49 explained on CNN why he rejected Trump's lawyer's requests to overturn the 2020 election.
01:56 "No vice president, any one person should ever have the right to choose the American president.
02:01 Presidency belongs to the American people and the American people alone."
02:05 Global reactions to Trump's legal challenges have been slow in coming.
02:10 James Long, professor of political science at the University of Washington, isn't surprised.
02:15 "Some leaders in specific countries have sort of internalized the wrong message
02:19 from Trump's behavior thus far.
02:22 But I think right now, they're probably wise to stay quiet and let this process play itself out
02:27 as they continue to try to have healthy diplomatic relationships with the United States."
02:31 Even though people abroad might be tired of hearing about it
02:35 or think it might not be consequential,
02:39 Trump's latest indictment should be taken seriously,
02:43 according to Catherine Sikink, international relations specialist at Harvard Kennedy School.
02:49 "If you don't have a democracy or your democracy is weak, human rights are imperiled.
02:54 So I believe that in the long term, if this is handled well in the United States,
03:00 other countries will pay attention."
03:02 In her view, the issue could become an example of how the U.S. is able to overcome its problems using the law.
03:10 Veronica Valdez Iglesias, VOA News, Washington.
