00:07 Ariane 6, the new European launcher, is versatile, quicker to build and cheaper than Ariane 5.
00:13 For the rocket's designers, the aim has been to slash costs by more than half to compete with the American rival SpaceX with reusable launchers.
00:22 To carry out a maximum number of missions to all orbits, the launcher will be able to transport satellites weighing up to 12 tons of all sizes.
00:30 Ariane 6 comes in two versions, Ariane 6-4 with four boosters and Ariane 6-2 with two boosters.
00:38 To reduce costs, Ariane 6's design has been streamlined. Fewer parts, some printed in 3D, and fewer welds.
00:45 This makes it possible to speed up the manufacturing process from 20 to just 9 months for Ariane 6's upper stage.
00:52 Another time saver, once at the launch site in Kourou in French Guiana, the various stages of Ariane 6 are put together horizontally.
01:00 The rocket will be raised up to its mobile gantry on the launch pad.
