00:00 Jolie-Anne's jaw was hit by a big arm.
00:04 They were asking me, "Why do you have a bone in your arm? Why is your bone in your arm?"
00:10 But after more than a year, how is Jolie-Anne's heavy weight?
00:17 Almost a year, this is the operation of my fistula.
00:28 Jolie-Anne's enemy is tired and exhausted working as a sales lady.
00:33 I've been working at a mall for 10 years.
00:35 I arrive at home around 1am.
00:40 Jolie-Anne works twice as hard to support her family.
00:46 We got this house, I taught my siblings, we paid the debts when my father got sick because he died of cancer.
00:55 Jolie-Anne was married and after a year, she found out that she has a bone in her arm.
01:02 This is where she started experiencing frequent headaches.
01:07 She ignored this because it is a symptom of bone in her arm.
01:12 I think my headaches started in August 2018.
01:18 I thought it was vertigo, maybe because of fatigue and traffic.
01:25 I got a checkup because I was always in pain.
01:28 To the point that I was vomiting whenever I have a headache.
01:31 Jolie-Anne got a consultation in 3 hospitals but all of them said the results were the same.
01:38 After the blood test, they found that my creatinine was 1,250.
01:44 It was very high.
01:45 The normal creatinine was 90.
01:48 What is creatinine?
01:51 She said, "You are not normal. You have a lot of toxins in your body.
01:58 Maybe the toxins are already in your brain. You need to get dialysis."
02:02 Once the patient has symptoms and on top of that, her creatinine is increasing, that is more than 1,
02:11 she can get dialysis.
02:14 Because of this, Jolie-Anne can no longer release waste into her body.
02:18 It is hard to breathe because her intestines are getting congested.
02:24 It is filling up with water because it is not being filtered.
02:28 It is not eating properly.
02:31 The waste products are being collected.
02:33 Number two is uremia.
02:36 The waste products are not being filtered into the body.
02:40 It means that the intestines are hurting, the head is hurting, and it is getting inflamed.
02:47 Jolie-Anne just found out that she has stage 5 chronic kidney disease.
02:54 I thought that everything was okay.
02:59 Suddenly, I felt like everything was gone.
03:03 I felt like a wall fell down.
03:08 According to studies, it is a big thing for the kidney malfunction of our lifestyle and eating habits.
03:15 Here in the Philippines, the main reason for this is diabetes and hypertension.
03:22 The function of our kidney is to filter out the waste products that are coming out of the intestines.
03:31 If you have chronic kidney disease, this is what we call a broken kidney stone.
03:38 You have two stones, so it can no longer function properly.
03:45 Because of her condition, Jolie-Anne's pregnancy is affected.
03:50 When we found out that I have CKD, I didn't want to get a dialysis.
03:55 But the baby died.
03:56 I felt like I was poisoned.
04:00 I was really down.
04:01 I wanted to give birth, but I didn't want to.
04:05 I couldn't stand up.
04:07 I was locked up here.
04:09 I collapsed.
04:11 I was in a stroke.
04:12 Because of the poison that entered the body, the baby was only 3 months old.
04:19 She needed to be placed in the emergency dialysis room.
04:26 Jolie-Anne needs to be given a fistula to be able to go for dialysis.
04:31 This is a bridge, supposedly.
04:35 We advise that if you are going to get a dialysis, you should be given an access, a fistula.
04:43 But you shouldn't stay there for long because you want to get a transplant.
04:49 Because of her condition, she is having a hard time lowering her self-confidence.
04:55 I grew insecure about everything.
04:57 I reached a point where I didn't want to go out.
05:00 I didn't want anyone to look at me.
05:02 Because I feel like if they look at me, they talk to me, they make fun of me, whatever they say.
05:11 I go out, I wear a jacket.
05:13 I'm covered in salt. I don't want them to see me.
05:17 The wound on her arm was swollen and swollen.
05:22 According to Dr. Arlene Duque, a vascular and transplant surgeon,
05:26 the swelling is due to the high number of injections in Jolie-Anne's neck.
05:30 It's not just because of the wrong injection.
05:35 There is a reason why it's called beginning central vein stenosis.
05:41 There are a lot of injections in the neck.
05:43 That's why there is aneurysm in the arm.
05:48 When you remove the catheter, it will be peckled.
05:52 When it's peckled, it can close the wound that the catheter went through.
05:56 So it's twitching.
05:58 Imagine, when it twitches, when the blood comes back to the heart,
06:03 it doesn't really come back to the heart totally.
06:06 It accumulates.
06:07 There is pressure. The fistula grows.
06:10 Jolie-Anne is still fighting the CKD.
06:16 But she is getting better.
06:19 Now, it's a little better.
06:22 My hemoglobin is also okay.
06:25 I don't breathe much. I can move properly.
06:29 My dialysis is still going on three times a week.
06:34 Because it's a lifetime of dialysis.
06:37 Jolie-Anne is very thankful for the help she received after she was allowed to be on our show.
06:45 There were people who helped me after I was allowed to be featured on TV.
06:50 I had an operation last year, by September.
06:55 I was in the NKTI for almost one month because I still had tests and my hemoglobin was low.
07:01 They were fixing it before they operated on me.
07:03 Jolie-Anne underwent a ligation to remove the damaged root.
07:09 The operation lasted for almost half a day.
07:14 Almost a year, this is the operation of my fistula.
07:17 The damage on my arm was gone.
07:22 It was cut into four pieces.
07:24 The ligation was done to it.
07:26 It was cut and the bleeding and the damaged root were removed.
07:32 That's why it grew.
07:34 The osteomosis was also removed so that it wouldn't grow again.
07:38 If you notice, I still have a big one here.
07:42 It's not included in the operation because it's close to my heart.
07:47 They just stayed it like that but it was already dead.
07:51 My body was able to move.
07:54 I was able to move properly.
07:56 The house was able to be cleaned.
07:58 My body was able to move.
08:00 My feelings were able to be healed.
08:05 To help her long-term treatment, Jolie-Anne started her own small food business.
08:12 Now, even if I'm selling in the afternoon or I'm standing for a few hours, I don't get tired.
08:20 I feel like I'm normal.
08:23 Jolie-Anne also doesn't give up on her hope of finding a kidney donor.
08:31 To my fellow members of CKD, don't lose hope.
08:35 Sometimes, we are really down especially when we are going through a financial crisis.
08:41 But if we look at the brighter side, it's better to be alive.
08:48 It's better to be awake with our family.
08:51 Just stay positive and fight.
08:54 Jolie-Anne is a mother of three.
