00:02 My fellow football fans
00:05 My name is Adam Cleary and I represent the world's biggest football magazine and world's like
00:11 Getting quite big ish YouTube channel 442 and I stand
00:16 sits before you today because we as football fans must unite and
00:22 Stop Manchester City from signing Josco Garverdahl because they already won
00:29 everything last season he's just
00:31 like
00:33 So perfect for them
00:35 Right, yes. Hello if you're a Man City fan, this isn't actually a video trying to get you to stop buying him
00:41 I support Newcastle. I think people should be allowed to buy whoever they want. Right anyway, your Pep Guardiola
00:46 Are you not? Obviously we're gonna pretend it's called pretend and we're gonna pretend your Pep Guardiola
00:52 Right, you bought Erling Haaland and that's somehow the biggest success story you've ever seen you somehow got Julia Roberts back from Man United
01:00 last season and then
01:01 You won the treble if it is possible to have a more perfect season than that. I
01:06 Genuinely, I lack the imagination to conceive of it. So the question becomes for you right now. How do you improve?
01:15 Upon perfection you can't what you can do and what they are going to try and do with this transfer is you can
01:22 Future-proof perfection they can bring in a player right now who isn't gonna take them to any new levels
01:28 But it's gonna make it so much harder for the teams behind to drag them back down to theirs
01:35 Allow me to explain
01:37 Apologies, if you've watched a lot of our videos and I've done this gag like a million times by now
01:41 But here's Manchester City starting lineup. It's a 4-3-3 except of course. No, it's not John Stones actually plays in the midfield
01:48 He comes out a shuffle along into a back three
01:51 They've got this now famed sort of 3-2 build up and while it's very easy to look at De Bruyne at Haaland at Grealish and sort
01:58 Of see these players that brought them success through their goals
02:01 What's actually key to what Man City did last year was these five players here this not ingenious
02:07 But certainly very clever very tricky to play against
02:10 Build up of three at the back and two in the middle and let me promise you one thing right now this here
02:15 Despite it being one of their biggest strengths is going to be where teams try and target them
02:19 Next season and that's because it's a high risk high reward strategy
02:23 Like John Stones was amazing pushing into the midfield, but he is still a defender at heart and his decision making was occasionally
02:30 Not as good as say Rodri's was and Akanji and Ake they were brilliant in these wide centre back roles
02:36 But it was still possible to slightly isolate them out wide when they don't really want to be there
02:42 Credit to Pep and credit to all the players individually. It worked so well
02:45 You didn't really see any of these flaws coming to the fore
02:48 But if you're any team in the Premier League next season
02:51 That's what you're looking at like there is some uncomfortableness here
02:54 It is quite risky if we can find a way to target these sort of softer spots in it
02:59 We might get some joy. Maybe teams are going to double up on them and try and force mistakes leading to high turnovers
03:04 Maybe they're going to shut off all the short passing options
03:06 So they've got to go long where their pass completion numbers naturally sort of drop off a lot
03:10 Who knows but they're going to try everything and this is fundamentally why they will spend
03:15 Anything to get Gvardiol in because not only does he have a very specific skill set that means he's almost impossible
03:21 To target for any kind of mistake or pressure or anything like that. He also
03:25 from this area of the pitch
03:28 Can add a goal threat like fundamentally in Ake and Akanji and even Stones and Diaz City have some of the best passing defenders
03:34 In the world now these numbers will look absolutely insane
03:37 We've got to remember City have a lot of the ball they pass the ball loads
03:40 Anyway, so they're kind of inflated in that sense
03:42 But the fact that they are passing the ball this much and their completion numbers are high
03:46 Show how well suited to it these players are with the exception of Stones obviously plays far further up the pitch now
03:52 And is way more involved in the attacking phase
03:54 This is the kind of possession and the kind of passing the opposition teams
03:57 Are happy for City to have it is just sort of the build-up and it is just kind of getting knocked around
04:02 In their defensive third. It's only when it moves into a more dangerous player that you have to really worry about it
04:07 Like look at Nathan Ake here, for example, he had a fantastic season last year for City
04:11 They're gonna give him a new contract. He's not somebody you would have looked at and thought
04:14 Oh that can be improved upon very readily
04:17 But here is passing stats, which are superhuman
04:19 But here is passing stats in relation to the attacking phase like it doesn't really create any chances
04:24 There's not really any key passes in there
04:26 We very rarely get the ball into the penalty area and I know that stat for passes in the final third is absolutely massive
04:32 But you've got to remember this is City
04:34 so Ake just basically holding his position in the middle of the pitch and giving little two and three yarders here as they
04:40 Recycle everything around that's gonna massively over inflate that stat basically for all Ake's good work for how important he is in the build-up
04:46 He doesn't really ever do anything that creates a chance like he has an incredibly low
04:51 Shot creating action statistic. So why does City want Vardy all so much?
04:56 Well, here's Nathan Ake's brilliant passing stats and here are his he plays for a possession-based team in the Bundesliga as well
05:02 He can absolutely hang with City's players when it comes to just knocking the ball around in the build-up
05:08 But here are Nathan Ake's bad passing stats
05:11 Here is just the proof that it's very hard to contribute to the attack when you're playing left center back and here
05:17 Here are Vardy all's he's a freak
05:21 He's does not he shouldn't be able to do that and he does he does loads here are their comparative shot creating action numbers
05:30 Nathan Ake very rarely create shots because it's really hard to do it from that position and Vardy all
05:36 Makes loads the reason I keep mentioning comparing him to Ake by the way
05:39 It's because Vardy all plays on the left of a back three
05:42 Currently so you can have him in a two in the middle because he's just a center back
05:45 He's a left-sided center back
05:46 But when you make this change formationally, he will just go here like it's the most natural thing in the world
05:52 And how does he do that you ask? Well, he has two tools in his locker
05:56 Which just break football of city game
05:59 So first off the kind of pass he can do which players like Ake can't is like a really penetrative
06:04 Progressive through the lines ball. He's so brave and so accurate so many teams
06:09 Especially the premier league now have really well drilled well organized pressing units
06:13 They want to put that pressure on the center back to try and force them to either go backwards or to lose the ball
06:19 You can't do that with him
06:20 He will just really comfortably retain possession until he sees any kind of gap in the lines and he will break your press with that
06:27 ball and that's precisely why all those key passing statistics and balls into the penalty area stats are so high because
06:32 Yeah, he'll do that on the edge of his own box and beat the first line of the press
06:36 But also he will just see how far that ball can go if there's an opportunity to get somebody in on goal from that position
06:42 He's got the confidence and the ability to just do it
06:46 And this is the really scary bit if that pass isn't on what he will do is simply
06:50 Go past you and this is what makes him so different to everybody else out there right now
06:55 This is what means he future-proofs manchester city system. You can pressure defenders all you want
06:59 You can force them to go back to the goalkeeper. You can force them to play lower percentage balls
07:02 You can try and get them to lose the ball if they are so comfortable with it at their feet
07:06 That they will simply beat you take you on run the ball up the field and add to the attacking the attacking system
07:13 There's not really anything you can do about that
07:16 Like as i've already said pressing is just so important to modern football right now
07:20 But one of the most important things you can have in your team to help against a press
07:24 Is like a press resistance central midfielder someone who's good on the ball
07:28 But can also beat a man so that if you get too tight to him
07:31 You can take that player out the equation all the best teams have somebody like that, but we've never really seen yet a press resistant
07:39 Center back just to put that in one sentence for you
07:42 You can't afford to get too tight to him because he'll just go past you
07:45 And you also can't afford to sit off him because his passing ability will kill you
07:50 But that's fine, right because this all must come at a cost like he's not very good defensively or his position's quite bad
07:55 Or he's not good at tackling was bad in the air. No, absolutely none of that and he is
08:00 Near flawless in everything he does whether it's in the air whether it's on the ground
08:05 He is a perfect perfect center back all that and he's
08:08 It's 21. So he's only gonna get quicker and stronger and better and smarter
08:15 And yeah, you can't you can't improve upon perfection
08:18 But you can make sure that you are perfect for the next 10 years and this is important
08:23 You know because it's gonna be a tricky season for man city next year
08:26 Like it's gonna be fairly transitional for them. Like they've lost gundu on they may well lose bernardo silver
08:32 They're probably gonna lose kyle walker
08:33 That's like they've got great squad
08:35 But that's a lot of upheaval to be going through right after you've just come off such a big win
08:39 So there's ever a time for other teams to try and get at them
08:44 It's next season and also one final very important point. I thought city did really well last season in spite of the fact
08:51 They had no croatians when you know, it's normally the team with the most creations that that goes on to win things
08:56 So adding two in one window
08:59 Wow
09:01 That's all i've got to say on that one
