00:00 Everybody's favorite pink star fish is back and ready to throw down, and today's character
00:05 spotlight will be going over none other than Patrick Star.
00:08 Patrick is a pretty traditional grappler all things considered.
00:11 Slow, heavy, and mostly limited in range, but once he gets his hands on you, you're
00:16 in for a world of hurt.
00:19 Patrick boasts some of the most powerful throws and strong attacks in the game, and his side
00:22 special Hug Driver will have you thinking twice about hiding behind your block.
00:26 To help him get past projectiles, disjoints, and those notorious platform campers, Patrick's
00:31 light up air Table Flip is a versatile tool that covers a generous amount of space and
00:35 can force people back to the ground.
00:38 His down special, Counter Slam, also does what you'd expect from the name.
00:41 He counters an attack and slams his opponents.
00:44 If you do it with a bit of a running start and jump into the air, you can also take advantage
00:47 of the projectiles your opponent leaves around the field to get a nice burst of speed to
00:50 close the gap between you.
00:52 Patrick's other specials include his Double Lariat, which is a fantastic get-off-me attack
00:56 that is also much larger and gains armor when enhanced with slime.
00:59 The aforementioned Hug Driver also is granted armor through the slime version.
01:03 Patrick's up special will grab opponents as he's traveling, but besides that, he's
01:07 completely vulnerable and doesn't go super far.
01:09 Altogether his recovery is, unfortunately, a bit lackluster, so you might find yourself
01:13 spending a bit of meter for an air dodge or enhanced up special.
01:17 Each of Patrick's strong attacks packs a serious punch, and many of them include additional
01:21 special properties.
01:22 For example, his charged up air, Starspin, gives him a small vertical boost which can
01:26 help his otherwise weak recovery.
01:28 His charged down air is a powerful spike that also grabs the ledge, preventing you from
01:31 overshooting, while his grounded down attack, Steel Buns, is a powerful counterattack where
01:36 Patrick leaps into the air and comes crashing down on his opponents.
01:39 He leaps high enough to dodge some attacks and grabs, and even lands on top of platforms.
01:44 Being a grappler means playing slow, careful, and knowing how to get inside your opponent's
01:48 head.
01:49 Maybe things that Patrick himself isn't the best at doing.
01:52 Nevertheless, he has all the tools necessary to make that gameplan effective.
01:55 If you have the brains to compensate for Patrick's lack thereof, or just want to swing and hit
01:59 hard and not worry too much about combos or execution, definitely give him a try.
