00:00 Alright, so welcome back to the AM show. It's time for us to look into what the papers are reporting this morning
00:05 I have the Delhi graphic newspaper. I have the business finder
00:11 Mouse I've with me the Delhi guide newspaper and the new crusading guide
00:17 My guest this morning is NBC parliamentary candidate for South Tong
00:23 Maxwell lucuto if good morning, how you doing?
00:27 Good morning
00:29 Max kindly on mute for me so I can hear you, you know on what you're telling me
00:38 Good morning. I'm good. I'm good. Just that I mean, it's been a long long time since we met, you know
00:44 Yeah, sure
00:47 Anyway, yeah, no be good and that is reflective in my voice. My voice is not too clever. I'm sure we can manage
00:55 Okay, it shall be well. Yes, this is this fine
00:57 I I'm told you on a campaign to get there in the sugarcane bridge faced. Is that it? How is it going?
01:04 Yeah, sure that's a campaign that the on for over six years at the point we are some
01:12 Especially toys damage. We have the
01:16 The bitumen surface around this joint cracked and so some field off and so in there be to try to dodge them
01:25 and
01:26 inadvertently people
01:28 motorbikes riders
01:30 Cars knock them and the rush into each other and it's
01:35 Resulted in a lot of casualties on the bridge
01:38 We try work on that for some time and the renaminis that got a team of people to fix this somehow
01:45 Okay, it's it's resolved the issue to some extent but inadvertently is affecting the health of the bridge itself
01:54 We still pray and hoping that they will come to do the complete innovation that they have promised us
01:59 Over the years that never started. I must come at least coming to fix the street lights on the bridge
02:05 but the
02:08 surface
02:10 All right, I wish you all the best we pray that you know, the bridges fixed for the people of
02:24 South Tom
02:25 So let's go into the papers now and start from the daily graphic newspaper on a front page. It says
02:31 government vindicated in a japa deal that according to the MPP comes with a photograph of the National Chairman of Party
02:40 Stephen I assume in team
02:43 tourism fiesta December in GH to spread outside
02:48 Accra, okay now head of a cross-defense chiefs meeting democracy must reign in Niger that's according to security
02:56 experts we'll get into that
02:58 Youth focused agriculture program launched. Okay, that's something that I would want us to go into
03:05 Naka QR code mechanism to check approved test books rolls out in
03:10 September. Okay, so let's get into the papers now
03:16 The details of the issues retired military officer
03:20 Commander quick hook accuracy has said that the containing military
03:26 Janta in Asia could deter other military
03:29 adventurous in the West African subregion quote
03:33 Militarily an intervention force must enjoy the support of the people. Otherwise, it would be fighting two enemies
03:40 Whatever the dilemma containing the current situation could help to deter future
03:45 adventurous
03:47 In my view on court, he said speaking to a daily graphic in a cry yesterday
03:51 One doctor could be see however said dialogue appeared a good way forward
03:56 Particularly since the junta appear to be enjoying some degree of support from the public
04:02 Now his comments comes as a cause military chief started a two-day meeting in Accra today in the latest effort by the
04:12 Subregional block to find a solution to a recent military coup in
04:15 Niger
04:17 Now look at all. I mean the whole of the week we've been discussing Niger because of the impending
04:22 Intervention that a course is contemplating. What do you make of this call by the security experts going forward?
04:29 I mean the meeting is starting today. What do you make of this and what will be your suggestion?
04:34 Yeah, sure. So
04:41 And I
04:43 Find in someone and there be a security experts his views must be respected
04:48 there in local policy cannot think that we see a
04:54 Equal as trying to do in the gym. Most people have advised. I think I was listening to
05:00 Was a joke the former president of Nigeria was what by she agrees
05:07 Such such move. I think that some of these things should be led with the experts to advise on and so as an aspect
05:15 I think that they should listen to to him his democracy
05:19 We want and so if some presidents of hours in some states think that the people don't matter and that they keep increasing
05:27 the athenae office the
05:29 constitution to favor them and
05:32 the likes of
05:35 Douglas president and for yardima and the likes of
05:39 what Tara of
05:42 Cote d'ivoire we have had a stink of all these things in their country and sometimes it's not sitting to hear them
05:49 Being the ones who are advising a course who deploy a commodity to me. Yeah, it's so unfortunate
05:55 And so I think that now that they are meeting again Ghana
05:59 They should look at the needs of the people. They should this one that's done. They applied and try to meet them halfway
06:06 The people I'm sure are not sleeping on the house
06:10 They are party ready and we know that Guinea Mali and Burkina Faso and some other
06:15 Military are now are ready to help them. And so like you say if you don't think that is going to be a
06:21 Kind of world war in West Africa, which I'm sure is going to affect Ghana as well
06:28 There were rumors that a military plane has been brought out in Egypt whether it's true or not is another issue
06:36 It only means that the junta in Niger are party ready for anybody who wants to take them for granted
06:42 I think it is time we
06:44 Talk to them behind the scenes and see how quickly we can bring some semblance of democracy back to me
06:52 Yeah
06:52 We've also heard that they are going to proceed meeting for high treason and all those things
06:58 I'm sure that once they talk to them behind the scenes we can bring some some sense of
07:03 Semblance of democracy and not to make sure that we don't lose a lot of lives
07:10 As it were if we are going to meet them foot for boots in our Ghanian
07:17 Balance, so I think it's a good call and we should listen and see how best we can address all these issues behind us
07:23 Not necessary through the barrel of the gun
07:26 But I think that all of this is being you know
07:31 Thought about because a cause wants to send a strong message across a sub region that enough is enough
07:38 We're having too many
07:40 coup d'etats in the sub region
07:42 So if we want them to limit how you know, how much we want to involve the military
07:49 What then should it was do differently to ensure that we're able to stem the tide in in all of this could it has that are?
07:56 happening
07:58 Yeah, so in as much as they want to send a strong signal to us in West Africa that nobody does that it was not free
08:05 I'm sure they should go beyond that and make sure that
08:09 The situation that leads to some of this is happening. I could do or need in the back and so yes, of course, we should
08:16 just allow anybody and everybody a
08:18 Democratically elected government for granted state that rules and goes for free
08:25 But I think that in as much as we we cry for the cheek
08:30 We should look at for the hawk as well. And so it should be a real win for all of us
08:34 It is our fear that they're going the way they want to
08:38 More life will be lost and I'll not be too good for us as a people and so here there should be some negotiations
08:45 This would be made to halfway
08:47 I'm not sure they are so stupid to quote look at their support
08:52 They are having from their people that you show to all of us that
08:55 Maybe what I do that kind of government they are getting and so
08:59 The West should take the avail of us and allow us to have some kind of freedom
09:05 If you look at the issues, they are chronically. It's high time France
09:09 We look at some of these things and saw them out
09:12 And so yes, they want to send us to the rest of the country that nobody can just wake up one day
09:19 And take a military action against a democratically elected government and goes for free, but I'm sure that
09:25 What causes the issue should also be looked at and I think it's high time
09:30 Behind this is they talk to each other that they review that they claim they've been doing I don't know how well
09:35 They do business and whether they are also able to prevail on some of their people
09:39 who go there's drama to make sure that they extend their turn off of this and
09:44 Then to the disadvantage of the generality of the people we like to them
09:48 All right
09:51 So that's it there now if you tend to page 17 of the daily graphic newspaper
09:56 It says youth focused agriculture program launched its story written written by Timothy
10:02 number
10:04 Rethink an initiative that seeks to change the mindset of the youth towards agriculture and agribusiness has been launched in Accra
10:11 spearheaded by cerebral farms limited a project of the office of the
10:14 2022 national best farmer the initiative will roll out
10:19 mentorship sessions for young people to build their capacity on modern technology and
10:24 best farming practices in the agricultural value chain
10:27 it will also serve as an advocacy platform for the youth in agriculture by engaging policymakers and
10:33 industry players to implement policies that would empower young people and also facilitate the access to finance
10:40 The initiative was unveiled yesterday where strategic partners
10:44 graphic communications group limited the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research all
10:50 Pledged their commitment to help change the face of agriculture in the country. You are in an area where
10:56 you know
10:59 I'm sure I don't know much about your constituency, but farming will be will be quite
11:04 You know the mainstay for a lot of people there
11:06 We know that over the years the youth have not
11:11 Got that attraction to farming because of several reasons. How do we go about making agriculture?
11:17 attractive to the youth of Ghana
11:20 How do we make agriculture attractive to the youth of Ghana?
11:22 Yeah, so I think that this thing should be driven by policy this you cannot dictate has been my dad a nickname
11:30 He's called Odin agree
11:32 once yes at the awards show he's been one of the best farmers in the district and
11:37 Even had a word as best history farmer on nothing to also occasions
11:42 And so in one of the seminars where the youth in a Greek mantra was being trumpeted
11:48 He woke up and said this this every day. They say that you think I could you can agree
11:52 You are you see that a lot of them going to agree so he thinks that they should change their name to Odin
11:57 We we have always outlined the challenges that we have had going up as youth and wanting to take up a Greek as
12:10 vocation or as a
12:12 profession
12:13 The policy that I simply agree has not been very friendly
12:16 You see as we through school and and what they want to punish you
12:21 they will send you to the front where we and so most people see a
12:24 family as a punishment and sometimes because of their
12:29 unreliable nature of
12:31 Rainfall that party in Ghana most of them going to it sometimes you would have to take loans
12:37 Is that and if the reason come the way you expect that you lose everything and then you have to do irrigation - it is very
12:44 expensive especially when you get a lot from the river of course you are no wrong if you say that my
12:49 Conscience II or my district should be more into a brief. Yes. We have the water flow into the sea
12:56 Through our conscience your district, but the challenge we have is that there are not enough canals to send this water
13:04 River or the water to the hinterland so that anybody in a way can go into
13:10 Aussie thing for me so that you come home from the canals into your land and have the fun and
13:17 the land that are close to the river are mostly used for
13:22 hospitality and residential facilities and so
13:33 The
13:35 People who are into it today who are doing the right things are really
13:59 Enjoying the benefit of it. It depends on how you approach farming really
14:03 Yeah, of course, so if it's technology driven, and then we have a lot of machinery
14:09 Attached to it unfortunately we have most of this product also when you bought from outside have been taxed heavily
14:16 At the point we took all these taxes, but they be introduced again
14:20 And so this is our only set is that do not drive the agree in my constituency after I won
14:26 I went to some of the few farms around my place
14:29 the gap and also the
14:31 Agro, Brazil a pump they are faced with a lot of challenges
14:35 And they told me that most of the arguments are being taxed and so they are able to bring as much as issue
14:40 We expand this one
14:42 You also employ the
14:45 Gatko for instance has no quality electricity
14:48 We take our use for most of their competition so they rely on generators to power their
14:54 Computes this is so much of a cost to them
14:57 But it what what what is stopping government from extending electricity to these people so that they can expand this one and get a lot
15:04 Of the youth employed and so that they can pay by the lot of the taxes that we need to government
15:08 We are just looking at the sector as a viable sector
15:12 And I think that our policies have not been properly shaped to get a lot of this youth into agree
15:17 And so if they are not launching a separate thing
15:20 But let's go back and look at our policies that drive agriculture once we look at that and we make sure that they work well
15:26 I'm sure a lot of the youth who are idling on the street even though most of the have taken to Betty
15:31 They would also want to look at some of those things and see the good it brings to them once somebody goes in and comes out
15:37 With good stories and that people also want to venture
15:40 I know a few of my youth who went to a great colleges and are ready to do some business
15:46 But you do it today you you you lose the next year you lose
15:50 And you have the bunches after you to pay back the loan
15:53 How you encourage to go in or even get some other people to join you do it?
15:58 So if they are launching it
16:00 It's a good thing
16:00 But we should go back to the tables and make sure that we put the right policies on the table and make sure we are
16:06 Tracking and give them the looser the investment that they need most of these policies come but behind the scene is fluff with a lot of
16:15 Unfavorable things happening in the offices some of this is happy and people behind the scene look at this
16:20 fertilizer that was being sold or distributed to us in what to get went out sold it and
16:27 Make a huge profit out of it and we are back to square zero
16:30 So I think I'm ready since can they are good policies
16:34 But the implementation becomes a challenge and people are there not a date
16:38 It has been a huge profit out of it and leave everything back to special. I'm sure it's a good policy
16:45 That should be pursued. All right, and we have people like John D'Amelio and all I mean John D'Amelio
16:52 Senor Hossie and a lot more young people
16:55 I have were veered into the sector and and really can tell the benefit all we need are the right things to be done
17:02 Irrigation for example should be tackled really it should be
17:07 You know a national initiative to extend the small irrigation systems to some of these smallholder farms
17:14 In your area you talk about having rivers, but we are building
17:18 Accommodation facilities along it so we can then through irrigation systems draw the water close to the farms
17:26 From from that source so they can use and I'm sure that it would do that
17:30 We could then engage in all year-round, you know cropping which of course will bring us there
17:36 They needed benefits than to rely on rain fed rain fed agriculture. We've done all of this here. So
17:41 Remember the last council of cheese that I let went to the German embassy to go and see how better can be done
17:54 We are still talking about this base and I'm sure that
17:56 Nori length now. I've got to make sure that we channel this
18:02 Water to the new talent to canal so that a lot more of the people can okay
18:07 Don't play and draw this water for the irrigation family or you know?
18:10 Well, you are an MP in the making you are just waiting for the day to come so that you are declared
18:15 So we expect that when you get into Parliament you ensure that these things are done for us the youth of Ghana to tap into
18:22 You know the prospect in in a great so and when you come will be keeping an eye on you to see what you do for us
18:27 Yeah
18:30 All right, okay. Okay. All right. Oh, but but your party is bereaved
18:38 You know our battle, right? The National Executive Committee member of the
18:44 Have lost a stout member
18:58 We in the in the West Asian caller auntie, I mean she's a very very hard woman, you know
19:05 Yeah, fortunately
19:07 She together with
19:10 The other one who also passed about two years ago, I'm happy you are do the
19:15 The other women's who therefore the green. Yeah. Yes
19:20 Remember the fondly right they have had on behalf of this party
19:26 May she rest in perfect peace
19:28 Well, let's turn to the daily graph a daily guide newspaper it says nia sacks ten officers over extortion
19:37 NDC incites youth against 10% burden tax
19:42 team bowia launches tech campaign
19:45 Rethink a great national best farmer like
19:48 Nigeria now, okay. This is Nigerian jailed 15 years for human trafficking
19:53 Let's go into the details
19:56 It says
19:58 Okay, this this is in your own. So I may probably have to jump over it, but
20:03 Let's see, I want us to deal with the NIH story now
20:10 It says the National Identification Authority are dismissed tense staff members after investigations and established
20:18 their culpability in misconduct and extortion of funds from Ghana card applicant
20:23 Investigations also reviewed that the said officers
20:26 violated the NRA standard operating procedures and
20:29 applicable public service rules while performing their duties as public officials in charge of registration activities the
20:37 conduct of the officers who were stationed at
20:40 NRAs headquarters in Accra were investigated by the criminal investigations department of the Ghana Police Service
20:46 they were taking through the standard procedures of investigation which included the
20:50 interdiction of the affected officers and the appointment of a
20:54 disciplinary committee of inquiry to provide a hearing for each officer in accordance with the law a
21:00 Statement issued by the corporate affairs directorate a directorate said management subsequently accepted the disciplinary committee's recommendations
21:08 according to a statement the allegations against the dismissed officers included
21:11 demanding and accepting on authorized fees from Ghana card applicant as well as
21:18 manipulating the registration system for personal gain
21:21 How does this come to you?
21:25 Yeah, sure. It's one of the challenges we have as a people and as a leader
21:30 I'm always under pressure to sort out a lot of my constituents who don't have the Ghana card
21:36 Especially when the CI was late in Parliament
21:39 requesting that the Ghana card is a sole
21:43 Identification that should be used for the forthcoming registration exercise
21:47 It came to most of us as a blow because I can imagine if I have to take somebody from a remote area in my constituency
21:54 to the
21:56 District capital then take a vehicle to go and back to go and do Ghana card at
22:01 280 Ghana cities that's almost 600 Ghana cities for one person
22:05 So if I'm taking over 600 people can you imagine how much I'm going to offer?
22:11 And these are people who can't do that for themselves. And so if people are challenged in these circumstances
22:17 I remember when it was brought close to the adults that you are to wake up with
22:21 Leave that to three days, but still they have not be able to go through the system
22:25 Some have done it and up to now
22:27 They will say the the winter and it's not there to say it doesn't count and you have to go through this and this and
22:32 Several times and it's a problem. I don't know why Ghana we are particularly interested in punishing
22:39 Some of these acts. Why do we have to put pressure on?
22:43 To go through systems like this and you sit in the office and you misappropriate and good things
22:49 This is a poor person would come to you and then you would have to export over 500 cities
22:54 Just to do a Ghana card you go to the bank and that is the only thing you can use
22:59 And so it's unnecessary pressure on us and I think that it's hard time
23:03 Most of these people are flashed out of the system is not only in the NRA all the sectors
23:09 It's happening and I'm sure that it's time
23:11 We begin to look at this is and punish people severely for some of this act so that we are deterrent
23:17 Most other people who think that we can profit here at the expense of the poor
23:22 I mean, it's a good thing and we should push for more of these things
23:26 But sometimes the process through which they think that because too long that we will forget that people are supposed to be punished
23:33 Let's shorten some of this process and make sure that as quickly as possible
23:36 We get through without this and those who have to be punished are punished so that it serves seriously as a deterrent
23:44 So now those who are who have to be punished are being punished
23:48 I mean these officers have been sacked because they started monies from
23:53 You know people who came to get national Ghana card
23:57 It's sacking enough or you expect more
24:01 No, I'm sure this is how this is when it's established that you're taking so much for somebody
24:06 You should be made to pay back to the people like we saw the minister of foreign affairs
24:11 Ranting at the passport office the other day
24:14 I'm sure that she says some leaks were giving and some names were mentioned one
24:19 This is not that what you be made to go the full hog and pay back
24:23 This money's that you would have profited illegally like we see in
24:28 Illegal drug trade once it's established that you are drug dealer all the properties you would have made out of that
24:36 Get that to the states
24:38 So I'm sure we should extend some of these things to the people because the person goes to escort
24:43 Millions and millions more people you just sucking you go back and establish his own business out or whatever
24:48 Negativity you have me and and and that's it. So I'm sure we should go and not hire
24:55 Beyond sucking they should be made to pay back
24:58 Like we always see people being surcharged
25:00 This was so do same and then this one is retrieved from them
25:04 If we can even get a perpetrators all those from whom they perpetrated the act and giving the money to
25:10 They should be made to confiscate this money and pay to
25:13 to chance
25:16 All right, let's see how that goes now inflation increases to thirty two point seven percent in July
25:25 The story says the year-on-year inflation rate at factory prices for goods and services
25:29 For the month of July is thirty two point seven percent showing an increase from the twenty nine point two percent
25:35 registered in June 2023
25:37 The July monthly producer inflation is also zero point eight percent as opposed to the zero point six percent recorded in June
25:44 2023 this information was reviewed by the Ghana statistician and by the government statistician
25:50 at the Ghana statistical service professor Samuel Kobena in name the government statistician stated that the industry sector recorded a rate of thirty five
25:58 point seven percent in
25:59 comparison to thirty one point three percent recorded in June
26:03 2023 he added that electricity and gas had the highest rate under the sector was sixty nine point six percent
26:10 Mining and quarry recorded a rate of mining and quarry recorded rate of thirty eight point nine percent
26:17 Well water supply sewage and waste management were noted to have an increase of thirty eight point five percent
26:23 Really, how can we
26:27 How can we really tame this is this, you know rising inflation that we have we've been battling with all these months
26:35 I'm not surprised you are not even able to ask the right question
26:40 You are not too sure what to say and what to ask because because we've done everything we have we can
26:45 Yeah, yeah, I suppose I'll give you that one on this. We don't know what else to do and
26:50 Unfortunately the head of the economic management in the solid team which has became become vicious now
26:59 We don't hear from them again. They are busy on their computer
27:02 I don't even know what they are telling us because I seriously don't see what is new for them to bring up
27:08 We keep hoping and praying that this who would get better, but it's always from bad to worse and
27:15 The vice president is a long time ahead for him. I don't even know what they are talking about and it's unfortunate
27:22 Isn't it different from being the main leader and being the
27:29 Is it not a head of the so-called solid economic management team is it a president it could be there
27:38 He could be the head on paper, but in actual fact, maybe
27:41 Not
27:44 You know, I'm only saying
27:47 In fact
28:01 And then we had
28:04 50 years brought he becoming the vice president and we thought that based on the theories he
28:10 Propounded he was going to turn them to practical but he's been on the scene for seven years and we are still counting
28:16 And we have been seeing it in you. It's always our excuses and
28:20 Rehashing the problems to us want to see solution and so some of us are giving up every day
28:26 The prices of things are increasing salaries remain the same wages at the same
28:30 Taxes are increasing by the day and then inflation is also killing us by the day
28:36 I I just don't know what else to do. We need to speak as possible keep this people out of
28:43 Governance and bring a more competitive. Let's see what we can do to turn the situation around
28:48 It's a genius. I just I just better I can see that you are so confused
28:54 You know, you know what to ask and what to say it's unfortunate
28:58 It's also unfortunate that they have lost it all and there's nothing new. I'm sure they can do the IMF deal

29:06 Lose outcome and I we still don't know what they are using the money to do to stabilize this economy
29:12 they say once he comes economy will be stabilized but still the
29:15 Instability is higher than we saw it before even the money began to flow in and so
29:23 It's also unfortunate my brother, how would you tackle this?
29:30 I mean, how would your government deal with this when you're voted into power?
29:34 My brother if these people can take all the money from the bonds and we keep it in your
29:40 Troubles at homes and people are stealing 1 million dollars and all that and you're not able to recognize
29:46 How can we have money in the system and to make things go that?
29:50 If you can go to the extent of printing all the money for the Bank of Ghana
29:54 Only for Bank of Ghana to make a loss of over 60 billion
29:58 How can we sustain this is then recklessness on the part of the government that is causing some of these things and for us?
30:06 The the country's almost at always at our heart and we always try for the ordinary Ghanian

30:34 I can't think better with that attitude from the so-called leaders that we have at the helm of affairs
30:40 Who are supposed to take this wrong for us? So we are not newbies when it comes to management of the economy
30:47 We don't have any Mahama
30:50 His excellency had we had a hem of our best for so long and knows how things can be turned out and so Ghanians

31:29 They displayed and when everything went to my toes before they went there and that is the challenge we are seeing today
31:35 And so you take the right decision at the right time and then things will go better for you
31:40 And so I believe that we have a lot more to offer to Ghanians that we are seeing this inept government and this
31:46 insensitive people

33:11 It says a three-member panel of the Community Court of Justice of the economic community of West African State
33:17 ECHO us has dismissed an action filed in a court by three anti-corruption bodies in Ghana seeking an order of the court to restrain the
33:25 government of Ghana from
33:26 Implementing the japa royalties deal the ECHO escort held that the three applicants did not provide any evidence
33:32 To suggest as alleged by them that the japa deal will deprive the Ghanian people of their common wealth
33:39 the court further underlined the fact that a minerals income investment fund myth and the
33:44 Processes of setting up a japa royalties as well as the floating of the shares on the London Stock Exchange
