00:00 Thank you, thank you to all your incredible eloquent speakers here today.
00:08 I want all the kids to sit up, you know, sit up and listen.
00:13 Listen properly now.
00:15 I know we've kept you guys for a long time today,
00:19 but I know one day you're going to look at this time
00:24 and the people that you've heard speak today
00:28 and all these things will echo with you.
00:33 Courage, mental wellness, dreaming big, winning.
00:42 The one thing I want to really, really emphasize here on the continent and today is respect.
00:54 And I want to go even further in respect for women.
01:00 Okay, we need to respect women on our continent and everywhere in the world even more.
01:12 Okay, I know I came from my mother.
01:18 Yes, we have wives, we have daughters, we have aunts, we have girlfriends.
01:26 Respect, yeah, and show it and do it.
01:31 Don't just speak it, show it, do it.
01:36 Every day, every day, okay, is something we need to learn more and more.
01:44 We Africans here, all you youth, all you youth, okay, are going to grow up,
01:53 are going to be bigger, you are going to be better,
01:56 you are going to be able to dream and dream and dream bigger and achieve bigger.
02:02 Okay, yes, yes.
02:08 We all grew up, you see all these people here.
02:13 You see Amadou Fall, you see Ishma Bear, you see Ramatou, you see Mama K, you see Minister Mimosa.
02:20 We all grew up in this continent, okay.
02:23 I grew up in this continent up to when I was 19 years old, okay.
02:29 We must believe, believe in who we are, okay.
02:34 Don't let anybody else come and tell us who we are.
02:38 Yes, okay.
02:42 If we can get to all these positions, okay, you know the story of President Kagame,
02:50 you know the story of all these great Africans.
02:53 Amadou Gallo Fall here, he's the president of the Basketball Africa League,
02:58 they come and play here.
03:00 We grow, we're big, we walk with command, huh, yes.
03:05 All you youth, you will become.
03:08 If I can become, I want my little daughter, I want my little son to become, I want you to become, okay.
03:16 Because all of you are smarter than all of us here.
03:20 Yes, so believe in the continent, believe in you, believe in your community, okay.
03:25 You are a giant.
03:26 That's why we wanted to start this.
03:29 Where is Godwin Owinje?
03:30 Is Godwin Owinje here?
03:32 A co-founder of Giants of Africa.
03:35 When we were dreaming, we were dreaming big, okay, but it started small.
03:42 You can start small.
03:44 We had a bin, okay, we wanted to do camps around the country.
03:48 So we went and asked for shoes.
03:52 They throw the shoes in the bin, used shoes, and then we put them in bags.
03:57 Sometimes I don't have money.
04:05 And he would let me sleep on his bed, okay.
04:11 Yeah, it doesn't all start easy.
04:14 It doesn't start easy.
04:17 And like this speaker said, don't think because of where you're coming from that you can't dream and you cannot become.
04:26 Yeah.
04:28 Dreaming is free.
04:34 There is nobody that has ever paid for a dream.
04:37 It's free.
04:39 Smiling is free.
04:41 Yes, we can be happy in Africa.
04:43 We can grow.
04:44 We can become.
04:45 When I walk into a room, I walk proud.
04:49 I'm strong.
04:50 Yes, I know, I believe, I respect.
04:54 I respect what is around me, okay.
04:58 Our dream one day was to bring people through basketball and sports.
05:04 Look at where we are.
05:06 Yes.
05:11 One day we sat down with the president of this country in Toronto, and he sat down like this in the arena.
05:20 And he said, how do we bring this kind of arena to the continent?
05:25 Look at where we are.
05:27 We're in our own arena.
05:32 Yes, so if you don't think you can become, I'm telling you now, yes, you can be anything, anything, anything you want to be in this world, okay.
05:48 I remember one day being a leader of the Toronto Raptors.
05:53 I came home.
05:55 I had to make a very, very big decision.
05:57 Very, very big decision.
05:59 I thought about it.
06:00 I brought all the people, the smart people around me, and now I had to make a decision.
06:06 And we are all human beings.
06:08 You start to question yourself sometimes, okay.
06:12 I came home, walked into the garage, went inside the house.
06:18 My head was down, okay.
06:22 There was somebody visiting my house that day.
06:26 It was Mama K.
06:28 She was with my wife Ramatu and her daughter, Ange, in our kitchen.
06:35 And she noticed that my head was down.
06:40 And she told me to put my head up.
06:42 This is why I'm a leader.
06:44 This is why you have been put in this position.
06:48 So you take responsibility and you make these decisions, okay.
06:54 That's coming from a sister, a mother, and a woman.
07:02 And this is what I tell you that we all have to respect.
07:07 Respect everybody that's around us.
07:10 Help each other.
07:11 Help each other, okay, is important.
07:14 We're not only here for this week.
