00:00 a major faction returns at last night's Impact Wrestling tapings, WWE Raw star announces
00:04 an injury, a former Divas Champion wants to manage Ronda Rousey and a new IWGP United
00:12 States Champion was crowned at last night's New Japan Pro Wrestling Capital Collision.
00:16 Hello and welcome to the solo Sunday News here at World Culture Wrestling, with myself
00:20 Andru Palar, be sure to like, subscribe, comment, all of that good generic stuff. But most importantly,
00:24 I hope you have a really cool Sunday, whatever you're up to, whatever you've got planned,
00:28 whatever you've done, I hope it's all gone super cool and it goes super smooth. Have
00:32 a good Sunday. And obviously be sure to send plenty of positive vibes in my wrecks and
00:36 way today. It's a big, it's kind of a big day for the football, but we're here to talk
00:40 about wrestling. First and foremost, because I'm a massive impact mark, the first story
00:45 we're going to get to is aces and eights are back in impact wrestling. Now, this is something
00:52 I don't think, I don't know, I didn't see coming. Obviously, there was stuff with D'Lo
00:56 Brown, but I didn't really see this coming, but yeah, whether it's permanent, whether
00:59 it was a one-off last night, citrus brawl tapings, which will air a bit later on this
01:04 month, it's basically the lead into slammer bursary. So where's Briscoe and Garrett Bischoff
01:09 come out with D'Lo Brown all in the aces and eights colors, the older, the club badges,
01:15 the club jackets, all of that good stuff to face on and on, more as Kenny King and Vincent.
01:19 Well, Briscoe and Bishop did lose. So that's it. It's like, Hmm, is that going to lead
01:25 to something more? Or was it just literally coming for a spot show, do a one-off just
01:30 did something kind of cool for the, the, the impact diehards like myself. Yeah, it's, it
01:34 was, it was cool. It puts a smile on my face. I'm not the biggest West Briscoe fan in the
01:37 world or the biggest Garrett, Garrett Bischoff fan in the world, but I do recognize head
01:42 wiggle that D'Lo Brown is one very talented dude. Now, obviously D'Lo these days is in
01:47 managerial capacity in a backstage producer capacity is a commentator capacity. So he's
01:51 not wrestling, but he accompanied Garrett and, and wears out to the ring for them to
01:56 lose against on and on more now on and on more in early this year, maybe how far back
02:01 was that? Maybe January, February, they, they took out D'Lo Brown now on and on more of
02:06 course is the, the, the former ring of honor stars who've I guess invaded impact wrestling
02:11 would be the way to spin it. They took out D'Lo, D'Lo's clearly got on the phone to some
02:15 of his boys from aces and eights and gone, Hey, come and help me out. So we'll see if
02:18 this is just a one-off or if it is something more. Now for those not aware, ace and eights
02:24 basically it was a faction, a heel group that formed in June, 2012. I think they debuted
02:28 in impact and this shit, initially all masked. And it was like, that was a whole thing. Like
02:32 the big reveals of who, who was, who was behind this mystery group. Initially they attacked
02:37 sting. Then they attacked the Hulkster brother, Hulk Hogan, who was running TNA at that point
02:42 in time. Of course this wasn't the TNA banner still. And after months of putting heads with
02:46 Bully Ray and beating the, the, the piss out of Bully Ray, it was revealed that, Oh, Bully
02:50 Ray's actually the leader, the president of this group, which kind of didn't make that
02:54 much sense. And it was just, yeah. Anyway, ace and eights ran for about 18 months. You
03:00 had a D-Von was in there, D-Von Dudley, Doc Gallows, Mike Knox as, as Knox. Taz was, it
03:06 was a mouthpiece at one point, Bruce, Brooke Test Marker. Who else? Obviously D-Lo Brown,
03:12 Mr. Anderson, Anderson was also in it. And obviously Briscoe and, and Garrett Bischoff.
03:21 So we'll see what happens with this, but it's fun to keep an eye on. It's something that's
03:24 got my interest. It's piqued my attention. Hence why I'm leading the solo Sunday news
03:28 with this story. But moving from that onto WWE from impacts of WWE and Shelton Benjamin
03:34 is set for a spell on the sidelines. Now he's not said what the injury is or how long he's
03:41 in the out for, but he took to Twitter to say for only the second time in my career,
03:45 an injury has put me on the shelf. I'll be back soon. In the meantime, I'll be putting
03:48 in the work to come back better than I was before my little setback. See you guys soon.
03:53 So hopefully that's a challenge now for too long. Hopefully it's nothing too serious.
03:57 Best wishes to him from, from myself and all of us here at water culture wrestling dudes,
04:01 hella talented. Even at what 46 years of age on Benjamin. Now you would not think it's
04:06 a look at a guy or to see him work just the ridiculously talented dude. Now in terms of
04:11 Shelton, when he was last seen on TV in any capacity, it was an episode of main event
04:15 last month. I think it was 26th of April, possibly 25th of April. And I was in a tag
04:20 match where he and Cedric Alexander lost to the street profits before that, in terms of
04:25 kind of main programming. He was, he was one of the many entrants in the Andre the giant
04:29 Memorial battle Royal on the SmackDown before WrestleMania 38. So yeah, best wishes to Shelton
04:35 here's to a speedy recovery. Like I said, just a ridiculously talented dude. Now in
04:40 terms of talented people, Paige, just again, it's such a, it's a shame with Paige because
04:49 such a talented worker and to have a career cut short so early is just one of the great
04:54 shames of modern professional wrestling. Now she may not be able to wrestle on the WWE
04:59 in a moment, but Paige has kind of put the teas out there that possibly could she manage
05:03 Ronda Rousey. Maybe this all came about after the WWE Twitter account, but I'll post saying
05:09 basically who do people want to see fight Ronda Rousey next and Paige responded with
05:14 how did she put it? I've got it written down here, manager maybe. So obviously she can't,
05:19 she's not been medically cleared to wrestle on the WWE. But Paige in the managerial capacity,
05:24 we've seen that before with the Kabuki warriors, with the, with Carrie saying, and with Oscar
05:29 before that as well, she was a SmackDown general manager. This is someone who can talk. She's
05:32 a good talker. She was a great in ring worker. And let's face it as much as I'm one of those
05:38 guys where I'm a big Ronda Rousey fan. I know she's not for everybody, but I think I just
05:43 had a little bit of clearly a little bit of ring rust, a little bit rusty in this, this
05:47 latest run, but she's getting there that match with Charlotte, but breast made backlash was
05:50 a banger. Yeah. A big Ronda fan. I just think she's, I just, obviously it doesn't get much
05:55 more badass than Ronda Rousey, you know, an actual, a complete icon of the MMA world. And
06:02 so while Ronda is great, one thing that you have to say is that she's not great verbally.
06:07 She's not great with a mic in her hand. She's not a great promo. I don't think she'll ever
06:11 be a great promo. And so you, you look at that and you think, well, how can we just,
06:15 well, if you put a manager with a page can talk, Ronda could just be that silent badass.
06:20 She says very little says the off bits here and there. Um, I think it could really work
06:24 really, really well. Whether anything comes to this, of course, I don't know that all
06:27 remains to be seen because the reports, the belief is that pages WB contract is actually
06:32 up next month in June. Um, so whether she resigned to a WB, I don't know what this one,
06:38 because in a nice possible way, it's like, what, what can you do with her right now?
06:42 If WB aren't going to clear it to wrestle, she's not medically clear to wrestle. They've,
06:47 they've done her as a SmackDown general manager. They've done her as a manager for the Kabuki
06:50 warriors. Um, she's not really been seen on TV for however long now, a long old time.
06:55 She pops up as talking heads now and again in network productions, but there's not really
07:00 a role for her right now. And Paige herself has talked about how she's not done with wrestling.
07:05 Um, I think she said she's, she's not effing done. That was the exact specifics. Um, you
07:09 can, you can guess the effing for yourself. Um, yeah, that was something she said early
07:13 in the year. She's been talking about Brian Danielson, Edge people, uh, who were examples
07:17 of, of, of talent who have been forced into retirement due to medical issues, but then
07:21 have worked their way back and be able to get themselves cleared. So from the recent
07:26 kind of, I don't know the, the output she's put out there, the output she's put out there.
07:30 That makes sense. Um, yeah, the output from Paige in the last few months on social media
07:34 and in interviews, she's clearly eyeing up an in-ring return at some point, if, if, or
07:38 when she can get cleared. Now, if it's not WWE, maybe it's elsewhere. And with that contract
07:42 ticking around next month, then yeah, maybe Paige looks out. So she's still only 29. It's
07:47 like, again, this there's so many years left there. So much left in the tank. And you just,
07:52 you hope that if it is possible, she can return at some point. Um, but if not, her as a manager
07:57 for Ronda Rousey, Hey, I'm on board with that. And I'm also on board with the new IWGP United
08:03 States champion. Yes. Last night's capital collision show for new Japan pro wrestling.
08:07 So juice Robinson become the new IWGP us champ for the third time that is now for juice.
08:13 Now this is a juice of course, who what only a month ago was saying about how he's not
08:18 maybe six weeks ago saying he's not returning to new Japan pro wrestling. He might be done
08:21 with wrestling completely because he got no interest in wrestling anymore. And that was
08:25 all a swerve brother. And then he reappeared, turned heel, joined the bullet club. And last
08:29 night became a three-time IWGP United States champion. Now this was a four-way match in
08:35 the main event of the show featuring Hiroshi Tadahashi. He walked in as the champ, John
08:40 Moxley and will Osprey. Now what an array of talent that is there. Those, those three
08:44 Andrews Robinson, that's four very talented guys. Um, the finish game, there was high
08:48 five flow, high five flow from Tana Hashi to Moxley through a table on the outside.
08:53 So that kind of took those out of the match. Uh, Osprey went for the hidden blade on juice
08:58 Robinson. I'm getting ahead of myself here. He juice pulls a ref in the way hits a low
09:02 blow because he's a naughty, no good darn heel. And then put Osprey away with, with
09:08 what looks like a new finisher, kind of a reverse spinning death Valley bomb. I could,
09:14 I'd say you could label that as I'd wait. It was good enough to get the one, two, three
09:17 post-match juice got a promo, call himself rock hard, uh, the booster of bullet club.
09:22 And I basically just said, Oh, great. He was because he beat Tadahashi Moxley and Osprey
09:26 in one night, which is a pretty big claim to hold onto for a heel to wrap things up
09:30 with a few quick questions. I will be very quick because this is meant to be a speedy
09:33 video for your Sunday mornings. Uh, MJ has gotten to say happy solo Sunday, happy solo
09:39 Sunday. Uh, if, and when a W comes to the UK, how big a venue will they need? Oh, traffic
09:44 the old two or the mighty Rexham AFC. Uh, nah, I think first and foremost, it will be
09:49 full and screaming cottage that gets the first big AW show. Uh, that capacity for football
09:54 is just below 20,000. If you take into account the fact that you can open up the pitch to
09:59 have seats in there, but obviously, and you've had the production side of things, which takes
10:03 away certain class, I reckon cream cottage probably get 22,000 for a wrestling show,
10:09 which I think is a good starting point. Um, could they do old traffic, which those are
10:13 familiar as Manchester night is ground. I have, I mean, that's, that's a lot of people
10:17 to get in there. I think these days old traffic holds about 70,000, maybe more. Um, could
10:22 they get the race course ground here in Rexham? Absolutely. Um, if we can get our, our cop
10:27 stand redevelop, which is a long story, I will not go into and bore you with. Um, but
10:31 now I think, I think, yeah, full and screaming cottage is the first, the first and foremost,
10:35 that'll be the first place that they come. And then after that, if you're looking at
10:40 in terms of numbers, they could attract, I mean, you're thinking AW could, they could
10:45 attract the strong crowd, man. They could get it. Could they do somewhere? It's 30,000.
10:49 Can they do 40,000? I mean, we'll have to wait and see. It's kind of the, um, the acid
10:54 test, I guess, for, for AW with his popularity over here. Tony Karn, only recently said how
10:58 AW is the most popular wrestling company in the UK. Now I live in the UK and I can see
11:05 where he's coming from in some ways. I prefer the AW product. I think a lot of people do,
11:10 but still WWE is the market leader worldwide. And that includes in the UK on that one. So
11:15 I think that's totally maybe getting a little bit carried away himself, but I'm sure he
11:18 could sell a shed load of tickets for any AW shows that he does run over here.
11:22 Mark's always got in touch. Morning, Andrew. What is your favourite triple threat title
11:26 match that doesn't involve anything in the TLC match? Mine is the finals of the Smackdown
11:30 tag titles with Los Guerreros versus Angle and Belmar versus Edge and Mysterio. Still
11:34 one of my all time favourites. Morning, Mark. Again, thank you for a picture. Anybody want
11:38 to send me pictures of dogs or cats, any sort of animals? I'm cool. Not sharks. That's my
11:42 one thing. Not sharks, but yeah, nice to see Apollo and one of his pals there chilling
11:46 out. Um, yeah, to be fair, I think you've, you've nailed it. That, that triple threat
11:51 on Smackdown, that whole, the Smackdown six, that era of Smackdown, Heyman booking it.
11:55 I think, yeah, Los Guerreros versus, uh, Edge and Mysterio versus Angle and Belmar. I mean,
12:03 that's gotta be right up there for me. Um, another one that jumps out with Bound for
12:07 Glory 2012, again, impact Mark, see how Kaz and Daniels who went in as a champ, you had
12:13 Angle and Styles, Kurt Angle and AJ Styles. What a fun tag team that was. The few times
12:18 they tied together. And then you are Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez, LAX. It was LAX that
12:23 won in that one. That one stands out to me. And I guess you've got, there's like a, maybe
12:28 it's a recency bias, but there was, I mean, Jurassic Express against the Young Bucks and
12:34 Red Dragon at Revolution earlier in the year. Um, I really, really liked, uh, one that's
12:38 really stuck with me for some reason. Uh, I think it was the Raw before WrestleMania
12:42 38, or it might've been two weeks before WrestleMania 38. And it was Alpha Academy versus the Street
12:46 Profits versus RK bro. That one I really enjoyed as well. Um, trying to think of honor, honor
12:52 for all 2018. Was it 18? Yeah. Uh, you had again, Kaz and Daniels against the Briscoes
12:58 and the Young Bucks this time. Um, that was another one that stands out, but I think for
13:02 me, I think you nailed it straight away. I think that SmackDown match that's, that stands
13:06 out to me a lot, but also Bound for Glory, man. Again, don't be sleeping on impact. Even
13:10 if this was TNA and it was 10 years ago, don't be sleeping on that stuff. Uh, final question
13:14 from Colter Strandhausen. If AEW picks up Dakota Kai after a non-compete expires, who
13:19 in AEW would you like to see her work with? Hashtag solo Sunday news.
13:23 Uh, the first person that comes to mind for me is Jamie Hayter. I don't know why she jumps
13:28 out particularly, but I don't know. I just think they'd be a really good match. Hayter
13:31 is the largest, stronger, dominant heel, the cocky heel. God, she's got such good sass
13:36 about her, man. Just walk to the ring. The faces that just, uh, the, the utter disgust
13:40 she has for anybody around her is, is majestic. It's brilliant. So I, yeah, Jamie Hayter and
13:45 the undersized small fighting from underneath baby face Dakota Kai, that comes to mind for
13:49 me. Um, I mean, Dakota Kai and Serena Deeb could be good. Dakota Kai and Thunder Rosa
13:54 could be good. Uh, Kyle Rushida, there's a lot of talent there. Britt Baker, of course,
13:59 obviously. Um, I mean, maybe, maybe it's Britt Baker. She's kind of almost like a gatekeeper
14:04 who seems for anyone new that comes into the company. They have some sort of tanglings
14:07 with Britt Baker. Um, obviously, uh, Ruby riot, Ruby Soho was one you've seen Tony storming
14:12 to wrap with her as well. Um, and Nylah Rose could be an interesting one. Speaking of gatekeepers,
14:17 she seems to be the gatekeeper of sorts, but anyone who's just won the title, uh, it's
14:21 like, right, stick with against Nylah. Um, but I think again, Nylah Rose is the more
14:25 powerful, dominant, larger heel against the undersized Dakota Kai that could work really
14:29 well. But yeah, if I'm going with one person, it's Jamie Hayter brother. Uh, right. And
14:33 that brings to an end this, this edition of the soul Sunday news. Of course I was not
14:36 here last week because I had a week off. It was rare. Um, it was fun. It was very drunken
14:41 and it involved lots of football. Today's a massive game for the mighty town for my
14:45 beloved Rex. And so keep us in your thoughts. Uh, we've got Malin super formal in, I just
14:49 don't think you understand. Uh, but anyway, I've been Andrew Pollard at what coach wrestling.
14:53 Be sure to follow us at what, what coach at WWE follow me if you want. I can't promise
14:57 it's going to be entertaining at coached left peg. Um, sure to like subscribe, comment,
15:02 and again, just make sure you have a really cool Sunday. I hope that you have a really
15:05 good one. I hope it's been cool so far. I hope it's really good going forward and have
15:08 a great rest of your day. And then I'll have to be back tomorrow. I believe it's messes
15:11 will burn and Maureen tomorrow again, and I'll catch you next weekend. Actually, that's
15:17 a lie. I won't because I'm at Wembley towards the epic trophy final. So another Sunday off.
15:21 I say it's a rare Sunday last weekend. I'll also be off next week, but yeah, the week
15:25 after that, Hey, I'll catch you then.
