00:00 On Monday 3rd of April 2023 Thomas Cashman was jailed for life for the murder of a nine-year-old
00:08 Olivia Pratt-Corbell. Following an 18-day trial at Manchester Crown Court, Cashman,
00:12 34, was found guilty of murder, attempted murder, the wounding of Olivia's mum Cheryl
00:18 and two firearms offences. He was jailed for life to serve a minimum of 42 years. He was
00:25 also jailed for 22 years for attempted murder, 10 years for wounding and 18 years each for
00:30 the two firearms offences. The sentences will run concurrently. During her sentencing Justice
00:37 Yip said the killing of Olivia shocked not only the city of Liverpool but also the nation.
00:43 Her family have spoken today of Olivia's life and the hopes and dreams of her future which
00:48 were so cruelly snatched away. Olivia's name is likely to be remembered for many years
00:55 but her name should not only be remembered for her terrible last moments. It's plain
01:00 Olivia was a lovely little girl who brightened the lives of her family and friends. They
01:05 have suffered an unimaginable loss they must carry for the rest of their lives. One year
01:12 on from Olivia's murder her mum Cheryl has spoken about how difficult it has been.
01:17 I'm not going to lie, I'm not going to say it's been easy because it hasn't. It's been
01:26 hard but we've had family and friends that have got me through it, the support to get
01:36 us through it. Blinked and the last 12 months have just flew by. I am numb.
01:53 Merseyside's Police and Crime Commissioner has heaped praise not only on the force for
01:58 their hard work in bringing Cashman to justice but also the courage of Olivia's family.
02:05 It was horrible, it was absolutely awful. Any incident where someone loses their life
02:10 is just absolutely tragic but I think for it to happen to such a young girl in such
02:14 a horrible way, a young girl who had a whole life ahead of her, it was just utterly heartbreaking.
02:20 I think as we mark the one year I'm very much thinking of Cheryl and the family going through
02:25 an anniversary that nobody should have to be experiencing and I know that it's going
02:30 to be a very difficult day for them.
02:32 Her personality, we live on through Cheryl, Ryan, Chloe, the rest of the family that loved
02:38 her and adored her. That cheeky little smile, you just need to look at that little face
02:44 because that's what people are going to remember and that's what we want people to remember.
02:49 She was a beautiful little lady.
02:52 A sassy little princess, cheeky, loved life, she loved dancing.
