00:00 Those volunteers are spending the weekend in the village of Lukashevka in Chernihiv
00:05 region.
00:06 With the organization Repair Together, over a hundred people come from all over the world
00:11 to rebuild houses destroyed by Russian shelling, like the house of Nadia.
00:16 Last year, these pensioners who survived Russian occupation lost everything.
00:20 "We didn't see the house burning because we were in the basement for days.
00:24 The shelling was so intense we couldn't go out.
00:27 Then we moved to the barn but got shelled again and that time my husband was killed.
00:32 Now we're building this new house.
00:34 That way my grandson will be able to visit and I won't be alone."
00:39 Moved by the fate of Ukrainians, Owen decided to come here.
00:43 For weeks now, this Irish carpenter has been sharing his expertise with the volunteers
00:47 on site.
00:48 "It's not easy work.
00:50 It's hot.
00:51 We're living in tents.
00:52 But it's enjoyable and it's rewarding.
00:55 We're building homes for people that really, really badly need it.
01:00 It's emotional because you see the people every day, you see the conditions they're
01:04 living in, the hardship they're living in and you can't but feel that we need to get
01:09 more and more homes built."
01:11 Before joining, most volunteers had no prior experience in house building.
01:17 Katia, a Ukrainian living in Paris, left her marketing job to take part to the project.
01:22 "I'm very happy to be able to rebuild my region, to take part in something that's
01:30 bigger than myself.
01:32 It's bigger than anything and that also enables us to see how much residents count on us.
01:38 It allows us to make a difference, follow history and also highlight the fact that together
01:44 we can rebuild."
01:46 At the end of the day, volunteers finally take a break.
01:52 Repair Together is also a time to share.
01:55 That night, there is a concert in the fields, some welcomed down time.
01:59 A rarity in a country at war.
