00:10 In the past few days, we have witnessed a rise in cases with respect to telegram fraud.
00:17 Recently, on 15th of this month, we had a case where the complainant had lost around
00:24 1.5 crores.
00:26 Given the huge amount that we have been witnessing in the past few days, we would like to advise
00:33 all the individuals, all the citizens out there to please have some precaution when
00:40 they come across any investment opportunities.
00:44 So telegram fraud, motamoti, there are two kinds.
00:50 One is where you will get an offer for a job opportunity, you will get a message from whatsapp
00:58 or telegram where you will be told that you will get money if you like YouTube videos.
01:07 This is the first step.
01:08 After that, for liking one YouTube video, you will be paid around 150-200 rupees.
01:19 So the fraudster is building a trust that you will get the money back.
01:24 The next step is, you will be added to a telegram group.
01:29 There you will be given tasks.
01:32 Task 1, invest 10,000 rupees.
01:35 Then, around 12,000-13,000, it can vary.
01:40 You will be paid.
01:43 Again, the trust is being built that you are investing and you are getting the return.
01:49 Then what happens is that the amount keeps on increasing.
01:53 So, after a point of time, the amount can reach 10 lakhs, 20 lakhs, 30 lakhs and eventually
02:00 when you have given all the money, at the end, they will say that you will not be able
02:06 to withdraw the money.
02:07 So, when you are trying to withdraw the money, they will ask for some more amount.
02:12 And we have witnessed that some of the complainants have also given the money.
02:16 So, already 30 lakhs has been given.
02:19 After that, they will give around 10 lakhs, that it is okay, the money will be returned.
02:24 So, finally they realize that they have been cheated.
02:27 This is of one kind.
02:30 The second is, where you will say that we have an investment opportunity.
02:34 Here also, you will receive a message, be it WhatsApp or Telegram app.
02:42 There you will say that we have an app, go and invest money in cryptocurrency.
02:49 There you will invest money, you will give your bank account, you will invest money.
02:57 After a while, you will see that you will not be able to withdraw the money.
03:03 And again, they will ask you for more money.
03:05 So, the last case that we had of 1.53 crore was of the second kind.
03:10 The person was investing in cryptocurrency.
03:13 So, regarding few statistics, last year, our Bidhanagar police commissioner had around
03:21 25 cases with respect to the Telegram frauds, 25 cases.
03:28 The total amount cheated was 4.24 crores.
03:35 And the total amount that we have been able to freeze is about 3.3 crores.
03:43 So, the only issue here is about people being aware of this kind of fraud.
03:50 Because this is the only way of securing yourself.
03:53 There is no other way.
03:55 If you receive a message from an unknown number, please do not respond.
04:01 It is most probably fake.
04:03 You will not get a job anywhere like this.
04:06 Second is, if someone adds you in the Telegram app, please exit the group or do not respond in the group.
04:14 Third is, whenever there is an investment opportunity, please verify the company which
04:23 is providing you with this opportunity.
04:25 If someone asks you to invest in this company, please check the background.
04:31 If it is a proper company, it will have all the paperwork behind it.
04:39 And lastly, there is nothing called as easy money.
04:42 If somebody is giving you 30% return, this is not true.
04:46 It is most probably fraud.
