00:00 In Palestine, the Israeli regime's persecution of the press continues, al-Majidin's West
00:13 Bank bureau was closed and its reporters' equipment confiscated.
00:18 In Argentina, experts and public opinion confirm that the candidate Sergio Maza prevailed over
00:25 Javier Mele in the last debate of the Argentine presidential race.
00:32 The European People's Party presents a petition for the amnesty law to be debated in the Strasbourg
00:36 court.
00:43 Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Adelaide Studios in Havana,
00:47 Cuba.
00:48 Let's begin with the news.
01:01 Israeli government steps up harassment and persecution of the press.
01:04 Al-Majidin's West Bank bureau was closed and its reporters' equipment confiscated on Monday.
01:09 The Zionist executive has decided to approve the proposal of communications minister Shlomo
01:14 Karhi.
01:15 On Monday morning, the occupiers' telecommunications authorities confirmed the cabinet's decision,
01:19 and Adelaide had also ordered the confiscation of the equipment of the Lebanese channel.
01:24 Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government has unleashed an unprecedented war on the
01:28 media, killing more journalists than in any other conflict in the world in just one month.
01:33 Nasser al-Laham, director of al-Majidin, declared that they will continue to fulfill their mission
01:38 to inform.
01:44 The Gazan government press office reported that following the intensification of the
01:48 bombardment by the Israeli occupation forces in Palestine, the death toll has risen to
01:52 more than 11,100.
01:55 According to the statistics provided by the Ministry of Health, they state that among
01:59 the martyrs, more than 8,000 are children and women.
02:02 On the other hand, they informed that the number of wounded has risen to more than 28,000,
02:07 which pushes at greater risk the collapse of hospitals and health care centers due to
02:11 the lack of supplies.
02:12 Likewise, a spokesman for the Gaza Ministry of Health said that all hospitals in northern
02:17 Gaza are not providing services, with the exception of the Baptist Hospital, which has
02:22 limited care and services.
02:29 The World Health Organization confirmed the death toll of patients, medical staff and
02:32 refugees ramped up in Gazan hospitals harassed in the latest hours by the occupying army.
02:37 WHO's Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus referred that after having recovered contact
02:43 with Al-Shifa Hospital, the biggest in Gaza's Strip, that constant shootings and attacks
02:48 on the area have worsened the situation.
02:50 The number of patients' deaths surged due to the lack of power, water and medicine.
02:55 All patients in the intensive care unit have passed away, including newborns.
02:59 Local press reported that snipers shot dead four nurses and the outstanding nephrologist,
03:05 who had lately affirmed that he would never leave his patients behind.
03:15 Al-Shifa Hospital denies Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who claimed that they
03:18 had been offered 300 liters of fuel to reactivate the power of the hospital that has been bombed
03:24 for three days.
03:25 The Zionist Prime Minister made a statement to U.S. media, while the director of the hospital,
03:30 Muhammad Abu Salmeh, denied this fact and confirmed that all the patients in the intensive
03:35 care unit died.
03:36 He wonders why Israel does not deliver the fuel through the International Red Cross.
03:40 On the other hand, Hamas clarified that it has no authority over the hospital and pointed
03:44 out that the 300 liters allegedly offered by Israel are not even enough for 30 minutes
03:49 of service in the largest hospital in Gaza.
03:57 Hospitals have become home to thousands of displaced Palestinians seeking shelter from
04:01 Israeli bombardment, but many are already on the verge of collapse due to the lack of
04:05 space and medical supplies.
04:07 Our correspondent Noor Harassin has more details from the Gaza Strip.
04:13 The hospitals in the Gaza Strip started to be filled up with people, especially those
04:20 in southern Gaza, as we're talking about more than 12 hospitals in Gaza that totally collapsed
04:26 and stopped working due to the lack of medicine, medical supplies, and also the continuous
04:31 Israeli airstrikes in and around the hospitals.
04:35 Here in southern Gaza, the hospitals are now filled up with refugees.
04:41 We're talking about thousands of people, tens of thousands of people that left their homes
04:46 in northern Gaza and came to take shelter in southern Gaza.
04:50 However, these people do not have any homes.
04:53 The UN schools' shelters have closed their doors, not allowing more families to enter
04:59 the schools and taking shelter inside the schools.
05:02 So families started coming here to the hospitals in southern Gaza taking shelter.
05:09 However, they are scared.
05:11 They do think that it's the turn of southern Gaza and the hospitals of southern Gaza to
05:18 be targeted and attacked after Israel finishes attacking hospitals in northern Gaza.
05:25 Right now I am inside the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, and according to the doctor, there
05:30 is an estimated number of 10,000 people, refugees, now taking shelter inside the hospital.
05:37 Noor Harassin, TELESU, Gaza.
05:41 United Nations delegations at their headquarters initiate honors in memory of colleagues killed
05:45 by Israel in Gaza.
05:47 A worldwide tribute is being held today, Monday, in their name.
05:50 The occupying army has caused in one month the largest slaughter of humanitarian workers
05:54 in 75 years of its creation.
05:57 In their memory, offices around the world will observe this Monday a minute of silence
06:01 and flags at their headquarters will remain at half-mast.
06:04 Among those killed are teachers, nurses, doctors and support staff.
06:08 Humanitarian workers and journalists have been the direct target of the occupiers'
06:11 fire.
06:12 In the last weeks, Israel killed more journalists than any conflict in at least three decades.
06:19 UK Prime Minister Richard Sturtevant dismissed his home secretary, Suella Breverman, over
06:26 criticism of the police.
06:28 The now former secretary accused the police of double standards and of being lenient in
06:32 favoring the pro-Palestinian demonstrators during the control of the demonstrations held
06:36 in the country.
06:37 During the last hours, there had been increasing calls for her resignation after attacking
06:42 the police for authorizing pro-Palestinian protests, which she defined as "hate marches."
06:47 The British premier also announced a reshuffle in his government.
06:56 And in Palestine, despite the escalation of violence over the last 37 days, Gaza children,
07:01 refugees at UN schools, carried out recreational activities to mitigate the effect of the current
07:06 crisis.
07:07 This is how the Mobile Circus project provides psychological and psychosocial support through
07:12 entertainment to the children who have survived the Israeli bombardments, which have killed
07:16 over 11,100 people, of which over 8,000 were women and children.
07:21 Those who survived are left with psychological and emotional wounds from seeing their relatives
07:26 die.
07:27 In spite of all this, there is a group of Palestinians who, overcoming their own grief,
07:31 are trying to give a bit of hope to these children.
07:33 I am Josef Haddad, a circus trainer in Gaza.
07:44 In 2015, we had an initiative for children's recreation and to take care of children's
07:49 mental health through games to take their minds away from the horrors of war.
07:54 But the difficult circumstances of the war made our team to disperse, and everyone ended
08:00 up in a different place.
08:02 In spite of this, we are working to sow or promote the circus culture among the children,
08:08 and to create an atmosphere of recreation to relieve the pressures caused by the wars
08:14 and the tragedy of suffering they have experienced.
08:18 We have had many difficulties in some trainings, but we still have things to teach the children
08:23 through the games.
08:26 Let's take now a short break, but remember you can join us on TikTok @teresoreenglish,

08:35 Other stories coming up, stay with us.
08:38 [music]
08:45 the first headlines in the national and international news.
09:14 Presidents in the national and international press unanimously awarded the victory of Sergio
09:18 Maza of Union for the Homeland against Javier Millet of Liberty Advances in the last debate
09:23 of the Argentine presidential race.
09:26 During the almost two hours of the debate, the progressive candidate kept control in
09:29 the six thematic blocks.
09:30 On the other hand, the libertarian candidate quickly used an aggressive word, so she has
09:36 cast cancer and extermination came up again.
09:40 Sergio Maza organized a battery of questions challenging Javier Millet to take a position
09:44 on sensitive issues.
09:45 The pollsters preliminary pointed out that Maza looked much more presidential than Millet,
09:49 who even managed to run out of words.
09:57 In the presidential debate that took place in Argentina between candidates Sergio Maza
10:01 and Javier Millet, the representative of Union for the Homeland talked on education.
10:06 What Argentina needs is an improvement for labor laws based on the needs of Argentinians.
10:18 What Argentina needs are new laws for kids, for them to have accessible schools at affordable
10:34 prices.
10:36 Maza also stated that his administration will ensure respect for all Argentines.
10:41 Today, Argentina wears more than 7,000 jubilees, and the state has to provide for them.
10:57 Argentina needs a program for providing for these jubilees, low taxes, and furthermore,
11:15 all of this is going to be implemented from December 10 on.
11:25 We are going to start a new regime that will respect the needs of every Argentine.
11:32 Meanwhile, Javier Millet, candidate for the Argentine presidency for the Liberty Advances
11:38 Party during his speech in the presidential debate, gave details of how the health and
11:41 education sectors would be conformed.
11:45 We know that health and education are primary points.
11:53 So therefore, that's why those ministries will have four main offices, and all of them
12:06 would be directly related to those fields.
12:14 When you take a look to the history of humanity, you know that these two points have played
12:25 a very important role in development.
12:32 So therefore, we can understand that it's paramount for people to be healthy and to
12:37 be well fed.
12:43 That's why we're paying so much attention to food and education, especially with children.
12:52 Regarding to the education sector, Javier Millet also said that about 30 percent of
12:56 the population did not receive proper education.
13:00 I don't know why they didn't do all those proposals previously.
13:08 We heard before about this alphabetization compromise, which is heard right now.
13:18 Did you know that about 30 percent of the population did not receive proper education?
13:29 And there are about 70 percent of young children that cannot be able to solve a basic math
13:35 problem.
13:40 So if you can guarantee that these kids can end basic school, how would you provide support
13:50 for the rest of them?
13:51 How would you take them out of poverty?
13:57 How will they be educated and provide for them, especially when they have to have something
14:04 to eat?
14:06 In Chile, authorities are concerned that there is an increase of COVID-19 reported cases.
14:11 There has been a significant increase in both the number of hospitalizations in intensive
14:15 care units and in reported deaths due to the virus.
14:18 According to a health ministry report from October 29 to November 4, at least 36 people
14:23 have died of COVID-19.
14:24 The regions with the highest percentage of cases are Antofagasta in the north, with 63.3
14:31 percent, and to the south of the country Araucanía with 40.8 percent and Biaubia with 40.5 percent.
14:38 The Chilean health ministry is urging people to get immunized with the Bivalent vaccine,
14:43 to which effect they have launched a vaccination campaign focused on population segments more
14:48 prone to contagion.
14:53 The Venezuelan International Book Fair Philven 2023 continues in its 19th edition with Colombia
14:59 as a special guest.
15:00 The event offers more than 600 activities to promote reading and culture of the more
15:04 than 80 participating countries.
15:06 The fair has nearly 80 invited writers and publishers.
15:10 The Colombian pavilion has more than 30 authors in seven literature genres from different
15:14 independent publishers in Colombia.
15:16 In addition, the space dedicated to children's literature is one of the most colorful of
15:21 the exhibition.
15:26 Led by the Spanish People's Party's leader Dolores Montserrat, the European People's
15:31 Party will present a petition to the Strasbourg Court of Justice on Monday calling for a debate
15:36 on the amnesty law.
15:37 The request is made through the table of parliamentary spokespersons so that the court accepts it
15:43 as soon as possible.
15:44 The group assures that first thing this Monday will make the request to try to stop the law
15:49 that the socialists and the Catalan independentistas have agreed on.
15:54 Other part, the representatives of Pedro Sánchez could be preparing a debate on the rule of
15:59 law of Hungary and in this way and with this legal precedent to avoid talking about the
16:04 situation in Spain.
16:11 In this context, the Popular Party sent millions of citizens on Sunday to its rallies to protest
16:16 against the amnesty law and the government of Pedro Sánchez.
16:19 Demonstrations were held all around Spain.
16:21 Thousands gathered in the main squares of the State Departments to show their opposition
16:24 to the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party.
16:26 The president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez-Fejo, led the march in the city of
16:31 Sevilla, with a crowd that overflowed the streets of the city.
16:35 In this sense, the PP assured that more than 30,000 people attended the different rallies
16:39 all over the country.
16:44 The first thing to make all of Spain and the world understand is that this is a very unequal
16:49 battle.
16:50 The discussion between pro-independence and non-independence supporters is played with
16:55 marked cards.
16:56 A lot of tax money from the Generalitat is being used for propaganda, not even at the
17:02 service of separatism but at the service of Hispanophobia, of division.
17:07 There is definitely not a conflict between Catalonia and Spain.
17:10 The vast majority of Catalans are Spanish and that is the way they want to be and feel.
17:18 Every day in Barcelona, citizens express their strong rejection to the amnesty.
17:26 We have to tell all Spanish people in front of everyone that they are stealing from us
17:30 what belongs to us, that these fascist separatist scoundrels are taking part of our territory
17:36 and a few of them are benefiting against the rest of the people.
17:40 It's a serious coup d'etat.
17:42 Here all the people should be taking a stand.
17:44 Spain is ours, it does not belong to that scoundrel who for seven votes sold his own
17:50 mother.
17:51 This hasn't been a normal election, it's been an election of fraud because neither
17:56 the Zumar movement nor the PSOE had the amnesty in their electoral program.
18:01 Rather, they denied it, that it did not comply with the constitution and now us, Mr. Pedro,
18:07 is interested in the votes of the Republican Party.
18:10 It turns out that it is constitutional.
18:30 Welcome back from the south.
18:53 The United Nations has confirmed that more than 800 people were killed in Darfur, western
18:57 Sudan.
18:58 The attack occurred in a damata town in the province of western Darfur.
19:02 There militias and allied paramilitaries razed the town to the ground.
19:05 A report by doctors in the area was endorsed by the United Nations.
19:08 In addition to the fatalities, human rights organizations report numerous sexual attacks
19:12 against women and girls, many of them held as sex slaves.
19:16 The conflict in Sudan, which has moved out of international spotlight, has already resulted
19:20 in 12,000 deaths and 6 million displaced people since the conflict began on April 15.
19:31 In India, about 40 workers were trapped on the ground after a road tunnel they were building
19:35 in the state of Uttarakhand collapsed.
19:37 According to authorities, the collapse of the underpass between Sulkhiara and Dantala
19:40 Gaon occurred early Sunday morning during construction work.
19:43 No fatalities or injuries have been confirmed so far.
19:47 Rescue services are supplying oxygen through the robo to the best of their ability as they
19:51 work to try to get the workers out safely.
20:10 In Guatemala, the rainy season has left at least 65 people dead and over 23,690 people
20:16 affected by floods in several regions of the country.
20:19 The National Coordinating Organization for Disaster Reduction stated that this period
20:23 of storms affected around 4 million people throughout the country.
20:28 Among the most affected regions is the department of Alta Verapaz, where landslides occurred
20:32 impacting homes and buildings throughout the area.
20:36 Authorities informed that search and rescue operations continue for 13 people still missing.
20:45 In Italy and Sicily, the Edna volcano has erupted.
20:48 So far, no one has been reported dead or injured.
20:51 Officials say the volcano released a column of ashes over 4,500 meters high, which has
20:56 affected several nearby settlements.
20:59 Experts are keeping a close eye to the volcano's activity.
21:01 At a height of over 3,300 meters, Mount Edna is considered the largest volcano in Europe.
21:13 In Kenya, hundreds of environmental campaigners marched in Nairobi, the capital demanding
21:17 drastic curbs on plastic production, ahead of a meeting to negotiate a global plastic
21:21 treaty.
21:22 As of Monday, representatives of over 170 nations are expected to meet in Nairobi to
21:27 negotiate what concrete measures should be included in a binding worldwide treaty to
21:31 end plastic pollution drafted this past September.
21:34 Demonstrators urged conference participants to focus on cutting the amount of plastic
21:38 produced.
21:39 Last year, nations across the world agreed to finalize by 2024 a first UN treaty to address
21:45 the scores of plastics which are found everywhere from mountaintops and the deepest sea trenches
21:50 to human blood.
21:51 "The purpose of the event today is to highlight plastics reduction and the need for that in
21:59 the treaty.
22:00 There is a lot of talk about end of pipeline solutions which we do not need right now.
22:05 Investing in more of those solutions divert the focus away from what we really need to
22:10 do which is mandating ambitious targets on plastics reduction."
22:14 "We are the people who have the historical knowledge and also the historical depth of
22:20 controlling plastic pollution.
22:22 We are the heart of recycling and I believe that our input, our voices should set base
22:31 to this treaty."
22:32 We have come to the end of this news brief.
