00:00 For World Kindness Day, it's something that I've done for somebody else.
00:06 Just basically being a nice person, a job I used to do, you know,
00:12 because nobody likes to be served by somebody else's gun.
00:16 For something that's been done nice for me,
00:20 is the LGI saving my life when I had a heart attack,
00:24 and I couldn't thank them enough.
00:26 As of recently, I've been going through some treatment for an illness,
00:30 and I've had extreme kindness from many people that I know,
00:34 but particularly a group of women who have made sure that our family is really well fed
00:39 by making lots of lovely meals and dropping them off for us throughout the last few weeks.
00:44 So that's been so kind.
00:45 I work with a PTSD group for the military, so we do a lot of support and help out.
00:51 So we get a lot of feedback from that with helping guys who are on the point of suicide.
00:57 So there's a lot of kindness definitely on that.
01:00 The kindest thing I've done is probably...
01:05 Oh, when you... He went on a... He went on a placement last year,
01:10 and there was a boy who was on his own and felt really left out,
01:13 so Charles looked after him and took him under his wing and got him to come and sit with him.
01:17 Oh, yeah, I did do that.
01:18 You looked after him, didn't you?
01:19 Yeah, I looked after him.
01:20 He was a bit sad about being away from home as well, so...
01:23 Yeah, so I helped him because he was crying, so I made him happier.
01:28 The kindest thing that ever happened to me was two travellers when I was five years old saved my life.
01:33 I lived near the reservoir near Middleton Pit, the collier as it was then,
01:37 and we weren't supposed to go in there, but kids always do.
01:41 The fence was broken down, and I was with my cousin, and somehow I fell in the deep one,
01:46 and I was drowning, basically.
01:49 But they'd gone in for some water, and it was their little girl that noticed me.
01:53 It was a father and his son. His son was about 19 years old.
01:57 He'd be about 40, I think, and she noticed there was a little boy in water,
02:01 so they both pulled out and saved me. They saved my life.
02:03 If you're kind to other people, I think it kind of helps you to get into, like,
02:08 a natural state of peace within yourself, because you're not caught up in, like,
02:12 trying to look after this imagined you all the time.
02:15 And then when you're at ease with yourself in that way, then you're kind of being kind to yourself,
02:20 and it's easier for you to know what works for you, what's best for you as well.
02:24 So I think that's why, like, generosity and, what's the word, like, compassion for others,
02:29 it kind of circles back around, so it has to include you.
02:32 One of my cousins stayed, helped me out, painted my bedroom a couple of weeks ago,
02:38 which I was struggling with it anyway, and I just called in one of my cousins to come over
02:44 and give me a hand over with it, and it's going on in four days, so I was very proud of that one.
02:51 We often have this picture of doom and gloom in the world, so there's so much bad news around,
02:56 but I have to say that most, the majority of people I meet are kind souls and kind individuals
03:01 and do kind things for others. It just doesn't always go seen.
