00:00 My name's Dan Forster, that's D-A-N-F-O-R-S-T-E-R. I'm Chief Inspector Neighbourhood Policing
00:18 in South Gloucestershire and my job title is Area Commander for South Gloucestershire.
00:30 A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a woman in Kingswood yesterday.
00:36 Officers attended a property at Wedmore Place at 3.50pm following a report of a serious
00:41 assault. On arrival, they found a woman with significant injuries. Police officers and
00:48 paramedics attempted resuscitation but sadly the woman was pronounced dead at around 4.30pm.
00:55 A forensic post-mortem examination will take place today to determine the cause of death.
01:03 While formal identification has not yet taken place, the victims next of kin have been informed
01:09 and are receiving support from a specialist family liaison officer. Our thoughts are with
01:14 them at this time. A 43-year-old man was arrested from within the property on suspicion of murder.
01:22 He is due to be assessed by health professionals before being questioned by detectives. Tragically,
01:29 there were a number of children inside the property at the time of the incident and while
01:32 thankfully they weren't physically harmed, they have experienced an extremely traumatic
01:37 event. I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to the children and to the victims'
01:43 wider family during what is undoubtedly a very difficult time. The children are currently
01:50 being looked after by a family member with specially trained officers providing the necessary
01:55 support. Our major crime investigation team will carry out a full investigation to establish
02:01 what happened. At this time, this is being treated as an isolated incident involving
02:06 people known to one another. A cordon is currently in place to protect the scene and to allow
02:11 crime scene investigators to carry out a full forensic examination. Residents of Wedmore
02:17 Close can expect a cordon will be in place for at least a couple of days. To provide
02:23 community reassurance, neighbourhood police officers will be conducting increased patrols
02:27 in the coming days. Incidents like this are very rare, but when they do happen they can
02:33 cause significant community concern. I would urge residents and community members to speak
02:39 to an officer or contact their local neighbourhood policing team if they are concerned or if
02:44 they have any information that may assist the investigation.
