00:03 Wanita MIC Chief Mohana Muniandi has expressed deep sorrow
00:07 at the loss of Devaki Krishna, the first woman elected
00:11 to public office in Malaysia, describing it
00:13 as a significant loss for Indian women in the country.
00:18 Mohana said Devaki, who was an MIC leader herself,
00:21 was bold, brave, and committed to the party.
00:25 Devaki was named the MIC secretary in 1975
00:29 and became the Wanita MIC deputy chief in 1984.
00:34 Mohana said Devaki's most significant contribution to MIC
00:38 was her unwavering loyalty to the party,
00:41 consistently attending all party-related events,
00:44 regardless of their size.
00:47 Last night, Devaki died at the age of 100.
00:51 Devaki, the longest-serving MIC member until her death,
00:54 won a seat on the municipal council in Kuala Lumpur
00:57 in 1952.
00:59 She also won the Bangsa seat that year.
01:02 Her grandson, PKR MP R Ramadhan, said
01:05 Devaki was such an influential figure in Malaysian politics,
