00:00 Idlib countryside, northwestern Syria.
00:04 Most of the 6,000 Syrians who died in last year's earthquake come from this region.
00:10 The Haroun family lost a son and their home.
00:14 They are now renting this room and are waiting for aid which, they say, never arrived.
00:21 Many organizations came to us but we did not see any real help.
00:25 We explained to them that we lost our house, our son died, our situation became tragic
00:30 and we do not have money, but no one responded to our demands.
00:37 Home to over 4 million people, Idlib is one of the last pockets of resistance against
00:42 the Syrian regime.
00:44 Since Damascus prevents humanitarian aid from reaching here, it has to come in through
00:49 the border with Turkey.
00:50 But it has been far from enough and, to make matters worse, local authorities are not carrying
00:55 out the reconstruction they promised.
00:58 That job is left to NGOs, like this one, the Molham team.
01:04 The Molham Crescent project in Haram consists of 24 residential buildings, including 352
01:10 residential apartments.
01:12 The project began in August 2023.
01:14 Work is being carried out quickly so that these residential apartments will be ready
01:17 for the first anniversary of the earthquake disaster.
01:21 Projects like these are the exception.
01:23 In the village of Hamzia, Mohamed, like so many others, is still waiting for his home
01:28 to be restored.
01:29 He has lost a dozen of his relatives in the earthquake and says he does not have the means
01:34 to rent a new place on his own.
01:35 So he is now living in this camp.
01:38 It has been almost a year since the earthquake and this is our situation.
01:43 The organizations that came to the village restored a very small part and did not support
01:47 the people most affected.
01:49 And we, whose homes were completely destroyed, still live in tents and caravans, surrounded
01:54 by mud and the cold of winter.
01:56 We live in a tragic situation.
01:59 Even before the earthquake, there were around 800,000 people in Idlib living in such camps.
02:05 Now, NGOs say, that number has risen by another 100,000.
