00:00 On this day in space.
00:04 On February 8, 1974, the last crew of the Skylab Space Station returned to Earth.
00:09 Skylab was the first and only American space station and it supported three crewed missions.
00:14 The third and final mission lasted 84 days.
00:18 During their time inside the orbiting workshop, the three-person crew observed the sun,
00:22 watched a comet fly by, and participated in several medical studies.
00:26 The crew also performed the first-ever strike in space by cutting off communications with NASA
00:30 when they became overwhelmed with their workload.
00:33 They ended up doing more work than what was planned
00:35 before their capsule splashed out in the Pacific Ocean, marking the end of the Skylab program.
00:40 And that's what happened on this day in space.
