00:00 We are talking about the future of energy during this period and Mr. William McGoad,
00:06 the General Manager of the Energy Agency, is joining us.
00:12 Welcome to CNBC Arabic.
00:15 First, we were talking about the role of governments in supporting the energy sector.
00:23 To what extent have we taken positive steps to achieve the goals of the energy sector?
00:32 As you know, last year, during the 2018-2019 election,
00:48 22 governments prepared conversations for the role of the energy sector.
00:57 And we have been in the middle of discussions about the issues that we need to deal with
01:06 in order to increase this production.
01:08 And I believe that in the coming years, we will focus on the development of developed countries
01:20 in addition to developing human resources and providing production chains
01:25 in order to ensure that these results are the focus of our discussions.
01:31 Mr. William, as we know, today, nuclear energy contributes about 12% of the world's electricity.
01:39 In your opinion, today, how do you assess the government's support and direction towards nuclear energy?
01:44 To what extent have we been able to clarify the directions of the Arab region in general in this file?
01:51 How do you assess its directions?
01:53 Well, I think the future actually can be quite bright.
02:05 There are many countries in the Arab region that are interested in developing nuclear energy.
02:15 For example, Egypt is currently building the first nuclear power plant.
02:23 In addition to that, the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are working hard.
02:29 This can lead to the development of technology to build these power plants in safe locations.
02:37 But Mr. William, if we talk today about financing and specializing this type of energy,
02:44 to what extent are things now easier in terms of financing and also in terms of supporting sustainable operations
02:51 of green energy and nuclear energy in the near future?
02:55 Well, that's one of the big questions we're dealing with.
03:04 And that's why I think this is the main question.
03:08 And that's why we need to hold meetings of the government level.
03:16 Because this allows us to talk about financing nuclear energy.
03:21 Because thinking about financial capabilities is a basic matter.
03:26 And it requires leadership and initiatives from the governments of the world
03:31 to translate these concerns into reality.
03:34 And that's why we're today discussing the possible land situation to provide this financing in the future.
03:40 But as the forecasts speak, in order to achieve a clean zero emissions by 2050,
03:48 the nuclear energy must be doubled by almost three times.
03:52 In your opinion, today, to what stage have we reached in terms of production of nuclear energy?
04:00 Well, right now, we're not on track at all.
04:04 We're going to miss those targets.
04:07 And I think we're going to miss those targets.
04:10 And I think we're going to miss those targets.
04:13 And I think we're going to miss those targets.
04:16 And I think we're going to miss those targets.
04:19 And I think we're going to miss those targets.
04:22 And I think we're going to miss those targets.
04:25 If we talk about the financial capabilities of projects,
04:30 and building the capabilities and providing the national subsidies,
04:34 and if it's not possible, it will be impossible to increase the size of the production of nuclear energy by doubling or tripling.
04:42 So, going or staying on track requires initiatives, energy, and government initiatives and leadership.
04:52 Thank you.
04:53 We thank our guest, Mr. William Magood, the Director General of the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Economic Cooperation and Development Organization.
05:00 Thank you for being with us.
