Baby seal rescued after trapping its tail between rocks

SWNS

This is the moment a baby seal was rescued after it trapped its tail between rocks. A passerby spotted the grey seal sitting in a deep gap between rocks in Odiorne Point State Park, New Hampshire, USA, and alerted Seacoast Science Center (SCC). A video shows the scared pup staring at SCC staff and rescuers pulling the animal to safety. The SCC said on Facebook: "Our best guess is that during the recent elevated high tides, the seal got stuck and when the water receded it couldn't climb out. "After an initial attempt to pull her out using a net and blanket, we learned her flippers were wedged under the rocks. "After some manipulation while avoiding her snapping jaw and teeth, the team was able to shift her into a spot and slide the blanket under her body. The seal was taken in and treated before being released with a tag for safekeeping The SCC added: ""Overall she was in good health and it was determined that the best course of action was to release her."

00:12 Yeah.

00:12 Um, and try to get her in.

00:14 And if she's in enough, we could pull it up and try to get the blanket underneath.

00:18 And then just one person on the net pulling up.

00:21 Down below.

00:22 Yeah.

00:23 She's like at a weird angle, so those flippers, when I tried to pull them, they're actually wedged in.

00:28 So it's like her whole body has to come this way.
