00:00 A key Saturday session in the House and after months of bitter wrangling, a yay to a series
00:06 of foreign aid packages including for Ukraine, 61 billion dollars.
00:13 In the debate, the fault lines in Washington's political divisions were stark.
00:18 We can choose freedom or tyranny.
00:22 We can choose truth or propaganda.
00:25 We can choose Ukraine or Russia.
00:28 We can choose Zelensky or Putin.
00:31 We can choose a democratic ally or a sworn enemy.
00:35 The European Union can do more.
00:38 If the United States continues to fund this effort, the EU will not muster the political
00:44 will to do what they should.
00:47 The vote has been a challenge for the House Speaker, Mike Johnson.
00:50 The Republican is being urged to step aside by a small number of fellow Republicans including
00:54 Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, who lambasted the legislation.
00:59 The federal government continues to fund the military industrial complex.
01:04 This is a business model that requires Congress to continue to vote for money, to continue
01:09 to fund foreign wars.
01:12 And this is a business model the American people do not support.
01:16 More Republicans voted against the Ukraine aid than for it.
01:20 Ukrainian flags however waved as a vital aid package for the country headed to the Senate,
01:25 where its passage in the coming days is nearly assured.
01:31 It is not a perfect piece of legislation.
01:33 We're not insured that in a time of divided government and in a time where there are lots
01:38 of different opinions.
01:39 But there is no question whatsoever that the House has made many strong improvements to
01:43 the Senate bill and the product that we've sent over there is much better.
01:48 Among the first to react - the Ukrainian president.
01:56 I would like to personally thank Speaker Mike Johnson and all American hearts who, like
02:00 us in Ukraine, feel that Russian evil must not win.
02:06 Joe Biden also thanked Johnson and the bipartisan coalition of lawmakers who, he said, had voted
02:12 to put US national security first.
