00:04 Forests are the biggest asset we have to deal with climate change.
00:08 In the South Pacific country, Papua New Guinea,
00:10 has only one-third of the world's third largest primitive tropical rainforest,
00:13 which is next to Amazon and the Congo Plain.
00:16 However, in the past 30 years,
00:18 one-fourth of the forests in Papua New Guinea have been destroyed.
00:22 For this reason, Papua New Guinea's indigenous people began to use technology
00:26 such as satellites and tablets to monitor rainforests to prevent foreign invasion.
00:31 This plan is currently being implemented locally
00:34 under the cooperation of the United Nations, the UN and the UK.
00:37 In the South Pacific country, Papua New Guinea,
00:41 has only one-third of the world's third largest tropical rainforest,
00:43 which is next to Amazon and the Congo Plain.
00:46 For better monitoring of forests,
00:48 indigenous people are learning innovative technology.
00:50 This monitoring technology can be used on tablets or mobile phones
00:54 to allow indigenous people to draw up a boundary and monitor forests to prevent foreign invasion.
00:59 "The forest is very important to us.
01:01 We have to protect it.
01:03 We have to protect it from the climate change,
01:05 from the mountain climate, from the drought, from the flood."
01:08 Now, indigenous people no longer have to spend several days
01:10 climbing mountains and waterfalls to accurately locate the boundary through satellite images,
01:14 and can monitor it through tablets and computers.
01:17 "We have to use the satellite to monitor the forest.
01:20 We have to use the satellite to monitor the forest.
01:23 Papua New Guinea rainforest is extremely rich in natural resources,
01:27 but it lacks effective technology to monitor and manage forests.
01:30 This technology is the UN, the UN and the UK's cooperation to develop it
01:34 so that indigenous people can take better care of this rainforest.
01:38 "We are in the midst of a forest data revolution.
01:40 Here in Papua New Guinea, we are supporting the government and local communities
01:44 to collect new data to boost their efforts to protect, restore and sustainably use forests."
01:50 This technology is currently being implemented in 11 countries.
01:53 It is believed that in the near future,
01:55 many new generations of indigenous people from around the world
01:58 will be better connected to modern technology to protect this green home.
