British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says he is 'confident' his ruling Conservative Party can win general elections expected later this year, but refuses to set a date for the vote. Sunak mounts a defence of the Tories' 14 years in power and claims that Britain would be less safe under Keir Starmer's Labour opposition, which is widely tipped to come back to power.

00:00 Now at some point in the second half of this year we will all go to the polls and make a choice.
00:05 Not just about Conservatives versus Labour or Sunak versus Starmer. It will be a choice between
00:12 the future and the past. Now I remain confident that my party can prevail not because of our
00:18 record alone but because we will be the only party really talking about the future and not
00:24 with vague lofty platitudes but with bold ideas and a clear plan that can change our society for
00:30 the better and restore people's confidence and pride in our country. When that election campaign
00:36 does come, when people are considering that choice, I am happy to debate Keir Starmer as many times
00:41 as he would like on that choice. I'm being very clear. I think this is the most dangerous and
00:47 transformational time that our country has experienced in generations. That's the choice
00:53 at the election. That's the substance that we should be debating. Now I'm clear we are prepared
00:57 to take the bold action that is necessary, that we have a clear plan that is working
01:01 to deliver a secure future for everyone in our country. That's what the election should be about.
01:06 That's the debate that we should be having, not on process and timing. I'm looking forward to those
01:10 debates when they come.
