00:24 dozens of armed men launched an assault.
00:26 First, they targeted the residence of Vital Camere,
00:29 a senior politician set to become the president
00:31 of Congo's National Assembly.
00:33 They then made their way to the Palace of the Nation,
00:35 where the Congolese presidency is partly based.
00:39 The attack, led by Christian Malonga,
00:41 an ex-Congolese army officer who had lived for years
00:44 in the United States,
00:45 was broadcast live on social media.
00:49 Soldiers eventually took control of the situation
00:51 and overpowered the attackers.
00:53 In a televised address, an army spokesman later announced
00:57 that the security forces had foiled an attempted coup.
01:00 The spokesman added that the coup's ringleader,
01:02 Christian Malonga, was killed and other attackers arrested.

01:10 His son, who's called Marcel Malonga, was also there.

01:21 All were neutralized, along with about 40 others."

01:31 but people's minds are still scarred
01:33 by the violence of the attack.

01:42 but the minibus was abandoned there."
01:46 Camere's political allies visited the politician's house
01:49 to pay their respects.
01:51 Despite the fresh bullet holes in the walls,
01:53 his political party is calling for an investigation.
01:56 "Vital Camere is strong-headed.
01:58 For the time being, he's doing well,

02:02 But we must know the truth about this attack."
02:06 In total, according to the Congolese army,
02:08 two guards working for Camere were killed,
02:11 along with four attackers.
