Police are investigating how a man accused of fatally shooting a woman in north Queensland had obtained a gun despite having his weapons license suspended in 2021. 31-year-old Ryan Geoffrey Cole is charged with murdering 34-year-old Natalie Frahm outside her Mackay home on Wednesday.

00:00On this quiet South Mackay Street on Wednesday afternoon, 34-year-old Natalie Fram was shot
00:08dead. Two children in her backseat fled for help, and a Good Samaritan who rushed to the
00:13scene was also shot and injured. Police have charged her neighbour, 31-year-old Ryan Jeffrey
00:19Cole, with one count each of murder and attempted murder. Loved ones of Ms Fram have described
00:25her as a kind, loving mother who would help anyone.
00:29I don't think there's a single person in Queensland whose heart doesn't break for Natalie and
00:35her family and friends and this community.
00:37Mr Cole had had his weapons licence revoked in 2021. Police allege witnesses saw a revolver
00:43style weapon, which has still not been found. It comes as legislation has been introduced
00:49to Parliament at the request of police, which would empower officers to conduct warrantless
00:54searches for certain people.
00:56Police say Mr Cole was known to them, but there had been no recent interactions and
01:01there is still no clear motive. Forensic investigations are continuing.
