00:00According to the CDC, as of this time last year, 77.5% of all Americans over the age of 16 have
00:07been infected with COVID at least once. However, it seems some individuals, no matter how much
00:12exposure, have still not contracted it. But how? Well, a new experiment deliberately infected 36
00:18volunteers aged 18 to 30 to find out. And the results are surprising. For a particular subset
00:24of the volunteers, they showed a different and extraordinary immune response compared to most.
00:28Usually, when COVID enters the body, there is a rapid response. However, that response
00:32is in the blood once the virus is already building inside us. However, when the COVID
00:37virus entered the nasal cavities of those with extraordinary immune responses, they had an even
00:41faster response at the site of entry. Their nasal tissue activated mucosal-associated invariant T
00:47cells, as well as some white blood cells. This stopped the virus in its tracks before it could
00:52cause a full-blown infection, with the researchers writing in their study, quote,
00:56we now have a much greater understanding of the full range of immune responses,
01:00which could provide a basis for developing potential treatments and vaccines that
01:04mimic these natural protective responses.
