00:00I heard lots of children running out the buildings screaming, shouting and that
00:05itself isn't unusual because kids are very excitable normally when they come
00:09out of these classes so that alone didn't surprise me or strike me as
00:14unusual. But that didn't then die down which it normally does and some of my
00:21colleagues got up to look out of the window and it was only at that stage
00:25when one of them witnessed a young girl on the floor, I assume by the
00:32front door of the entrance to our building and said words to the effect
00:37there's a girl outside bleeding out and as soon as I heard that I ran. I basically
00:43ran the full length of our office to go and find out you know if I could help
00:47and what was what's happening to her and I never got as far as her because she
00:51was outside. So still on the first floor when I opened the our office door I was
00:59confronted by another girl on the floor who who looked like she had multiple
01:04stab wounds and was heavily blood-soaked and this guy in front of me with a with
01:10a knife who who then came towards me you know in a pretty menacing way and I
01:18thought he's gonna kill me too if I'm not you know or I didn't rationalize or
01:23you know you don't have time to a risk assessment I just put my arm up when
01:27this knife was coming towards me and I didn't even realize I'd been stabbed
01:32initially until I looked down and saw blood coming out my leg and and I tried
01:37to kick him with my right leg and then that's when I fell over because obviously
01:40one leg off the ground and the other one wasn't really able to support me so then
01:45I ended up a heap on on the floor and I and he came towards me I tried to kick
01:49him and then thankfully one of my colleagues appeared around the corner
01:54there's an L shape in the office and he then bolted I'm not gonna sit here and
02:01tell you that I was I was brave about the whole thing and confronting a knife
02:05man that's not the story at all and as I've said to everybody that's asked I
02:10don't want this to be about me I want this to be about the families of those
02:14three little girls I'm really really saddened to know what's happened and
02:18it's going to take me a while to come to terms with that really is. How are you
02:22doing on that journey? Not great I had a last night a few flashbacks which
02:29weren't pleasant I'm still in quite a lot of pain but I can get around I'm
02:36hobbling around learning how to lose use crutches and Helen's been hugely
02:40supportive it's really nice to see that my guys from the office came around this
02:46morning I wanted to see them and give them a hug I also wanted to make sure
02:50that they were okay to try and assess how they were dealing with it and I
02:55think by and large they're all they're all coping. I have hundreds of people write
02:59to me thousands people I don't know yeah it's crazy. And how does that make you feel?
03:05Oh I don't know, it's people that I've not spoken to for 15 years 10 years have
03:11been in touch but I've said to them all you know I'm not I'm not the hero
03:16don't you know I don't want the attention to be taken away from the
03:21paramedics were amazing and they were police a policeman held my hand you know
03:27he was amazing he really was and that's the real story and then obviously the
03:34families of those little girls and I'm really pleased that I heard this one
03:38that two have been released which is great news and that the others are
03:42stable so hopefully fingers crossed they all make a good recovery.
