00:00Already boasting over 60 million posts on TikTok, morning shedding to put it simply
00:05is when influencers remove or shed their face and hair products from the night before.
00:12They would film themselves removing all these products from these elaborate beauty regimes
00:16including things like face masks, eye masks, chin straps, mouth tape and mouth guards.
00:23Hi, I'm health reporter Sarah McCann and today we are going to be talking about that
00:28viral TikTok trend called morning shedding.
00:32The idea behind it is that the uglier you go to bed, the prettier you will wake up,
00:38with TikTok influencers claiming that by doing all these routines before bed, this actually
00:43saves them time when it comes to getting ready in the morning.
00:48However, is all this effort really worth it?
00:51Global skin doctor and cosmetic formulator of skincare by Dr. V, Dr. Vanita Ratan, has
00:58weighed in on this new TikTok trend, explaining that from a professional standpoint, it does
01:04not hold much weight.
01:06Whilst it is advisable to have a night time skin routine, using things like eye masks
01:11and face masks longer than the recommended time can actually end up potentially causing
01:17some skin irritation.
01:20Another issue of this viral beauty trend is that having all those products on at night
01:25can feel a bit restricting or could maybe cause us to overheat.
01:29This will then maybe impact our sleep quality and we could end up having a restless or a
01:33sleepless night, which will then have the opposite effect on our skincare.
01:38However, there is one positive to the morning shed TikTok trend.
01:43Heatless curlers are a really simple and effective way to style our hair the night before, meaning
01:48that we wake up with our hair ready to go.
01:51They also can protect our hair from damaging heat styling tools.
