00:00The U.S. and its allies are making big strides in integrating AI into warfare.
00:04On Friday, the U.S. Defense Department announced the successful deployment of
00:08autonomous and AI-enabled sensing systems during experimental trials in March.
00:13The trials were conducted by AUKUS, the security partnership between Australia,
00:17the United Kingdom, and the U.S. The Defense Department's statement said that the member
00:21nations tested cutting-edge autonomous and AI-enabled sensing capabilities in a multi-domain
00:27battle space — land, maritime, air, and cyber — that minimize the time between sensing
00:32enemy targets, deciding how to respond, and responding to the threat.
00:36Commodore Rachel Singleton is head of the Royal Navy Strategic Command's Defense AI Center.
00:41It's about putting in place the enablers to make all of our systems that each of the
00:46three nations design interoperable into the future.
00:49Of course, AI warfare is not without controversy.
00:52Business Insider notes that the Israeli Defense Force has drawn criticism for using AI in the
00:57selection of assassination targets during the war in Gaza.
01:00So the more autonomous these technologies become, the more scrutiny may be aimed their way.
