00:30In the middle of Surah Al-Hadeed, Allah paints a scene of Judgment Day.
00:34Judgment Day is something that Allah talks about in many places in the Qur'an,
00:37and usually when He talks about it, He talks about people that are heading towards Jannah, the believers,
00:42and people that are heading towards the Hellfire, the disbelievers.
00:45But this passage in particular is unique because Allah, instead of comparing believers to disbelievers,
00:50He compares believers to hypocrites.
00:52Allahumma la taj'alna minhum, may Allah not make us from them.
00:55But Allah, instead of comparing those who have faith,
00:58to those who have no faith, is actually comparing people who have faith,
01:01as opposed to people who thought they have faith, or pretended to have faith,
01:04or their faith was there but is of no value to Allah on the Day of Judgment.
01:08This is the munafiq, may Allah not make us from them.
01:11But this is why this passage is of particular importance,
01:14because it tells us many things about how not to end up in that scene on Judgment Day.
01:20To summarize what's going on in this passage, Allah Azzawajal says that on the Day of Judgment,
01:24the believers, when they stand, the Prophet shallallahu alaihi wa sallam will be able to see them,
01:29yawma tara, meaning, ishara ila ar-rasool sallallahu alaihi wa sallam,
01:32the messenger can see the entire ummah,
01:34al-mu'mineena wal-mu'minaat, believing men and women,
01:37yas'a nooruhum bayna aydihim wa bi-aymanihim.
01:40Their light is going to be coming out from right in front of them, and from their right.
01:44What that means is, we have light coming from our hearts, from our chests,
01:48and we have lights coming out of our hands.
01:50Why is that important? Because your iman and my iman, if it's sincere,
01:54if my faith is sincere to Allah, and my belief was strong,
01:57it actually turns into light on Judgment Day.
02:00And that faith made me act in a certain way.
02:03Those actions that I took turn into light on Judgment Day, the actions of my hand.
02:07So you have two torches on Judgment Day.
02:10The Day of Judgment is dark, it's this long walk to Jannah.
02:13And you're gonna need light to get there.
02:15Some people are going to have exhaustive light.
02:17Their light is so stretched that the Prophet ﷺ would describe,
02:20that it could go from one city to another.
02:23It's that big of a light.
02:24Other people have such weak light, they still have it, but it's so weak,
02:27they can barely see the next step that they're taking.
02:30So there are people with different capacities of light,
02:33and they are now making their way, and Allah has congratulated them,
02:36because they at least have light, as opposed to people who have no light,
02:39they don't have any chance of getting to Jannah.
02:41They can't see a path.
02:43And so Allah says,
02:48Congratulations to all of you of gardens,
02:50at the bottoms of which rivers are flowing, it's right ahead of you,
02:53keep walking, keep going, keep going.
02:55But then in the next ayah, Allah describes a group of people
02:58that also get up on Judgment Day,
03:00and they notice they have no light, and they're in the middle of the dark.
03:04And they see far ahead, and they see, you know,
03:06you can imagine the scene, there's complete pitch black darkness,
03:09and there's a group of people that seem to have some torches with them.
03:13You don't even see them, you just see some lights flickering.
03:16So you realize, I better catch up with them,
03:19because those lights are getting dimmer.
03:21So these hypocrites wake up in this dark scene on Judgment Day,
03:25and they try to run and catch up to the believers,
03:28because they have no light of their own.
03:30They wake up and they're in shock that they have nothing that can aid them.
03:39The day on which hypocritical men and women are going to say to those who believe,
03:43wait for us, hold on, look back towards us,
03:46we could get some of your light,
03:49اقتباس literally means, you know,
03:51in old days you have these torches with fires on top,
03:53and you can take your wood,
03:55and you can kind of light up your own torch.
03:57So they figure, we can go borrow some of your light,
03:59it won't take anything away from yours.
04:01Hold on a second, help us out here.
04:03And then a voice is heard,
04:07Go back behind yourselves, go turn back.
04:11Find some light.
04:12We're not gonna help.
04:14A day of judgment,
04:15the day of judgment is the day on which a mother doesn't care about her child.
04:18The day on which, you know, father and son, and brother and sister,
04:23all these relationships,
04:26All relationships are cut.
04:28So who's gonna care about who?
04:30I just need to get to my jannah, mind your own business.
04:32I'm not even turning back.
04:34Go back and find some light yourself.
04:36And the idea of going back actually is sarcasm also.
04:39Go back to this world.
04:41Because on judgment day,
04:42if you don't come on judgment day with light,
04:44you can't get any.
04:45The only way to gain that light was in this world.
04:50So now they still try to catch up,
04:52because they don't wanna hear it, right?
04:53So they're still trying to catch up.
04:54And as they get closer and closer to the believers,
04:59A massive gigantic wall is dropped between them,
05:04which happens to have a door.
05:06And the door, inshaAllah,
05:07maybe some other time we'll talk about.
05:08But Allah says a massive giant wall
05:11is dropped between these two groups.
05:13So even if they were gonna try to catch up,
05:15now they can't.
05:16As the wall is dropped,
05:18Allah says,
05:21The side they can no longer see.
05:23The hidden side of it.
05:24That's got mercy and love and care in it.
05:29And right behind it,
05:31right approaching them is punishment.
05:34So not only were they in the dark,
05:36now there's a massive wall,
05:37you got nowhere to go.
05:38And when you look back,
05:39there's punishment coming at you.
05:40They're about to be crushed.
05:42So these hypocrites,
05:44may Allah not make us from them,
05:45become desperate.
05:46So they call out.
05:48And they say,
05:51Didn't we used to be with you?
05:53Weren't we with you?
05:54So they're asking for the people of the other side.
05:57Apparently the door can be opened from the other side.
06:00Open up guys, come on.
06:02We used to be with you.
06:03And so a desperate call is made.
06:06This is important before we go any further.
06:08This is actually the reason I chose
06:11these ayat for today's khutbah.
06:12This wording,
06:15Weren't we with you?
06:16The idea is that these people on judgment day
06:19that are standing on the wrong side of the wall,
06:21that are in desperate situation,
06:23that have no light of themselves,
06:25actually assumed that they belonged
06:28among the believing community.
06:29They were very confident about that.
06:31So much so that they're citing it even on judgment day.
06:33We used to be among you.
06:35We prayed with you.
06:36We did business with you.
06:37We were friends with you.
06:38We were family with you.
06:39We were cousins with you.
06:40We went to the same college, university.
06:42We're all the same guys.
06:44How are we separated today?
06:46Why is this separation happening today?
06:48And from the other side,
06:50this time now that they feel safe.
06:52You know once the wall is dropped,
06:53not only do these people get overly terrified,
06:56the people on the other side feel far more secure.
06:58So they're not in a rush anymore.
07:00Because now it's totally safe.
07:02So now they take their time
07:04and actually answer them
07:06and say,
07:07well, here's why you're not with us today.
07:10Here's why you're not with us today.
07:12You know the first thing the people of heaven told them
07:15was you have to go get some of your own light.
07:19Find some light on your own.
07:20Go back and get it.
07:21Apparently you don't have any light.
07:23And then they're in shock.
07:25We used to be with you.
07:26We should have had light just like you have light.
07:28So now the people of jannah are going to describe
07:32how these people who used to have light,
07:35they used to have light,
07:36they used to have faith.
07:37How did they lose it?
07:39How did they end up bankrupt on judgment day?
07:41And this ayah is particularly profound
07:44because then it will give us an insight
07:46into how does someone lose their iman.
07:49How does someone end up
07:50taking the most priceless treasure
07:53that they can have in this life,
07:54our faith,
07:55and end up squandering it and losing it.
07:58It doesn't happen overnight.
08:00You don't just lose your iman.
08:02It's a process.
08:04And that process has been described
08:05in these timeless words.
08:08Of course you used to be with us.
08:12However you put yourselves,
08:15I'll do a rough translation first and I'll explain.
08:17Number one,
08:18you put yourselves in fitna,
08:20you put yourselves in trial.
08:24in Arabic actually means
08:25to put something to the test.
08:27فَتَنَا is also used
08:28when you test the purity of gold
08:31and you melt it
08:32and impurities come out.
08:34Like gold doesn't go through an easy test,
08:36it goes through a painful burning test.
08:38The idea of فَتَنْتُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ
08:41there are many lessons associated with it.
08:43For the purposes of this khutbah,
08:44I'll highlight one of them.
08:46You kept putting yourselves in situations
08:49where your faith gets tested.
08:51Try to understand what that means.
08:53You kept putting yourself in environments
08:55where you knew it was bad for you,
08:57but you said, no, I can handle it,
08:58I got this, I got this.
09:00You kept surrounding yourselves with friends
09:02that would do bad things,
09:03say bad things,
09:04see bad things,
09:06go to bad places,
09:07but you said, I'm not like them,
09:08I'm just trying to help them.
09:10And you kept going back
09:11into those environments.
09:13You kept getting into gatherings,
09:15and places, and situations.
09:17You kept putting yourselves in those places,
09:19assuming that it will not have any effect on you.
09:22It'll affect everyone else,
09:24but it won't affect you.
09:26You know, the first step
09:27wasn't that these people just became disbelievers,
09:29it was actually bad company.
09:31They put themselves in questionable circumstances.
09:34And they assume that it's not going to have an effect.
09:37You know, when you are...
09:39I'll give you a silly example,
09:40but it'll get the point across.
09:42If people do a lot of cooking at home,
09:44especially if you are a desi household,
09:45you do a lot of cooking at home,
09:47the home smells like a lot of masala.
09:50But if you live there, you don't smell it.
09:52When somebody else walks in,
09:54especially if an Arab walks into your house,
09:56they feel like they are in some contaminated zone,
09:58it hits them really hard.
09:59But a couple of hours later,
10:00they are like,
10:01it's just oxygen now.
10:03You understand?
10:04When you first put yourself in a bad environment,
10:07you might feel it.
10:08You might feel, this isn't good,
10:10this is going to mess me up.
10:12I don't think I should be here.
10:13Your heart will feel uncomfortable.
10:15But if you keep putting yourself in that situation
10:18over and over and over and over again,
10:20guess what?
10:21It doesn't bother you anymore.
10:23Somebody who smells,
10:25stands next to a smoker for the first time,
10:27is coughing,
10:28and their eyes are burning.
10:29But if they start smoking themselves a year later,
10:31that just becomes their oxygen,
10:32they can't even breathe normally without smoking.
10:35It changes them all together.
10:37The first problem was,
10:38you put yourselves,
10:39you surrounded yourselves in a bad environment.
10:44What was the second problem?
10:46The second problem was,
10:49You kept procrastinating.
10:51Now what does that mean?
10:52That means you realized it's bad,
10:54and you also realized in your own conscience,
10:56I should change,
10:57but you told yourself,
10:59I'll change pretty soon inshaAllah.
11:01I'm gonna change, I know I have to change,
11:02I know this is bad,
11:03just one more week,
11:04and I'm gonna be a different person.
11:06Man, just this semester,
11:08I got these messed up friends right now,
11:10and I can't really make them upset,
11:11so I'm gonna keep hanging out with them.
11:13But next semester,
11:14I'm totally doing a different schedule,
11:15I'm not gonna be around these guys anymore.
11:17But just let me just write out this semester.
11:20Just this one more month I'm doing this,
11:22you know,
11:23just this one more weekend,
11:24just this one or two more party,
11:26just one or two more drinks,
11:28that you keep telling yourself,
11:29just little bit more, little bit more, little bit more,
11:31and then people tell my favorite one,
11:33Ramadan is right around the corner,
11:35it's just 10 more months, 11 more months, you know.
11:39Once Ramadan come,
11:40man, I'll be totally different.
11:42I plan to go to hajj,
11:43once I go to hajj,
11:44oh, you watch, I'm gonna be a different person.
11:46But until then, you know, just kinda,
11:48just make dua for me.
11:50Tarabbastum.
11:51You didn't wanna make a change today, right now.
11:53You figured, you assumed,
11:55not only are you putting yourselves in a bad environment,
11:58you're not ready to make a transformation right now.
12:01It's too much for you to be asked.
12:03You'd rather just stick it out.
12:04You'd rather just enjoy a little bit more.
12:06This is what tarabbastum.
12:08But you know what?
12:09And you assumed, by the way,
12:11this also has an assumption.
12:12The first assumption was, it doesn't affect you.
12:15It doesn't have an impact on you, but it does.
12:17Something really bad becomes normal to you over time,
12:19you get desensitized.
12:20What is the effect of tarabbus,
12:22of holding off, and holding off, and holding off?
12:24Actually, you assume that you can put the brakes on at any time.
12:28And you can walk away from all of it,
12:30whenever you want.
12:31I'm not addicted.
12:33I don't need this.
12:34I'm not hooked on it.
12:35I can just walk away whenever I feel like.
12:37The truth of it is, that's not the case.
12:39The longer you stay, the more addicted you become.
12:42And the more impossible you feel,
12:44it's impossible for you to get out of it.
12:46You're completely immersed.
12:48You're completely drowned.
12:49And you don't even know anymore
12:51what it is to be outside of this environment.
12:53And then you start telling yourself,
12:54it's too late for me.
12:56And when that happens, a guilt sets in.
12:59The guilt sets in that I'm pretty messed up.
13:02Man, I've been doing sins.
13:04I've been in this bad environment.
13:06I should have made tawbah a long time ago,
13:08but it's too late for me.
13:09And that bad, nobody likes to feel bad.
13:12Nobody likes to feel guilty.
13:14And then shaitan comes and says,
13:15why do you feel guilty?
13:17You don't have to feel guilty.
13:19The only thing that's making you feel guilty
13:21is this Islam thing.
13:23Islam says, this is haram, and that's haram,
13:25and that's a sin, and that's a sin,
13:27and you can't do this, and you can't say that,
13:29and you can't go there.
13:30Islam keeps making you feel bad, man.
13:32I want you to feel good.
13:34How true is Islam anyway?
13:36And now the thoughts start running
13:38in this person's mind, a man or a woman.
13:41Why am I even following Islam?
13:44It seems like it just wants me not to be happy.
13:46I just want to live my life, man.
13:48I just want to be free.
13:49I just want to be able to do what I want.
13:51I just want to be able to hang out with my friends.
13:53I'm not so sure about the Quran anyway.
13:55How do we even know there is a God?
13:57How do we even know?
13:58What's this hadith business?
13:59How do we even know it's authentic?
14:01And so you have this young man or woman,
14:03this Zainab, this Ali, this Fatima, this Abdullah,
14:06this Karim, these beautiful names,
14:08and now they're starting to ask questions about,
14:10I'm not so sure about this Islam.
14:12I don't know.
14:14I have doubts. I have serious doubts.
14:15And these are not PhDs in philosophy.
14:17Nor do they have exhaustive education in Islamic history
14:20where they studied it and they started developing doubts.
14:22No, no, no.
14:23They were in a bad environment.
14:24They didn't change themselves.
14:25That is the process.
14:26I've talked to hundreds of these people
14:28that literally live this ayah.
14:30They live this ayah.
14:31And then they get to a point where they have doubts.
14:33But their doubts have nothing to do with logic or reason.
14:36As a matter of fact,
14:37when you answer one doubt,
14:38they go to the next doubt.
14:39When you answer that one,
14:40they go to the next one.
14:41When you answer that one,
14:42you go to the next one.
14:43Then you say, hold on a second.
14:44So how long ago did you start ending up
14:46in questionable kinds of company?
14:48And then the truth starts coming out.
14:52The very next words are,
14:53you fell into doubt.
14:54You started doubting.
14:56You know what doubt will do?
14:58It'll let you off the hook.
15:00You'll be able to say to yourself,
15:01well, it's not really absolutely the truth anyway.
15:05So I shouldn't feel bad that I don't follow it.
15:08I shouldn't feel bad.
15:10And now once those doubts settle in,
15:13and you hide behind those doubts,
15:15and continue to justify your life of procrastination
15:18and putting yourself in fitna.
15:19Once you get to that point,
15:21then two things are taken away from you.
15:25The desire for jannah is taken away.
15:27The desire for making Allah happy is taken away.
15:30The desire to have that light
15:32that will make you run and get to that destination.
15:34You don't even have that in this world.
15:36The person who desires to seek that success with Allah,
15:40Allah will give them that in this world.
15:42But that desire is gone now.
15:43You have doubts about it.
15:45And the fear of hell is gone.
15:47Those two things are gone.
15:49Your fears are gone,
15:50and your hopes and aspirations in Allah
15:53and the akhira are gone.
15:54The afterlife is nothing to you.
15:56The afterlife means nothing.
15:58If somebody even brings up heaven and hell,
15:59it's a joke to you.
16:01Well, if you take away heaven and hell,
16:03if you take away the motivation
16:05to end up in the reward of Allah,
16:07or get away from the punishment of Allah on Judgment Day,
16:10well, the only motivation you're going to have left
16:13are things that are left in this world, isn't it?
16:15You have nothing left in the next life.
16:17So the only thing to look forward to
16:19are stuff that's left in this life.
16:21And this life will be money,
16:23it'll be fame, it'll be leisure,
16:25it'll be pleasure,
16:27it'll be material things.
16:29That's all you ever think about,
16:31that's all you ever care about,
16:32that's all you ever want to know about,
16:34that's the only thing that ever interests you,
16:36that's the only thing you make efforts towards,
16:38because you think all of these things
16:40are going to bring you happiness.
16:41They'll bring you contentment.
16:43So the next words are,
16:46False hopes deceived you.
16:49You had false hopes,
16:51that some kind of worldly thing
16:53will bring you happiness,
16:54and you ran after it.
16:55You gave all of your life to it.
16:57And you would think that this will bring you
16:59what you're looking for,
17:00and you get to it.
17:01Like people wanting to see,
17:03people nowadays obsessed
17:05with the next movie that comes out,
17:07the next toy,
17:08the next device that comes out.
17:10Lines for the new Star Wars
17:12longer than passports for Hajj.
17:14Why? Because you need to go see it.
17:17If you don't see it,
17:18how does your life have any purpose?
17:20Your life means nothing
17:22if you didn't see it opening night.
17:24And so you have to see it.
17:26And by the way,
17:27hoping that this will bring you
17:28some kind of fulfillment
17:29that you haven't found anywhere else.
17:31And people walk out and say,
17:32that was pretty awesome,
17:33and then they're bored again.
17:34Like, what do I do now?
17:36Maybe I could go see it again.
17:38And they go see it again,
17:39and they're like, well,
17:40not as exciting the first time,
17:41but still pretty cool.
17:43You keep looking for something more
17:45to fulfill you and fulfill you.
17:47Something that will completely fulfill you,
17:48the pleasure of Allah,
17:50is no longer there.
17:51That desire is no longer there.
17:56Until the decision of Allah came.
17:58This was your life.
17:59This, according to the believers,
18:01is a summary of a person's life
18:03that lost their faith.
18:05They started just with putting themselves
18:07in a questionable environment,
18:08and from there,
18:09it's a downward spiral automatically.
18:11The next thing is,
18:12you start getting hooked on it,
18:13you put off.
18:14And then later on,
18:15you start developing doubts.
18:16And from there,
18:17the only thing you ever work towards
18:18is worldly, lustful, material gain,
18:21material desires.
18:25And then Allah says,
18:26the ultimate deceiver,
18:28غرور is مبالغة.
18:30The incredible deceiver
18:31was successful in deceiving you.
18:33This is what the believers say
18:34to the munafiqun on the other side of the wall.
18:37This is an incredible scene, folks.
18:39They're standing by this wall in shock,
18:41why aren't we on the other side?
18:43And now they're being reminded
18:45by their fellow believers on the other side,
18:48well, remember that you did this,
18:50this, this, and this.
18:52And this is a gift of Allah to you and to me.
18:55It's a gift of Allah that this hideous scene
18:59has been painted on judgment day.
19:02Because I would rather know now than then.
19:05I'd rather not stand there
19:07and then find out shocked,
19:09why am I on the wrong side of this wall?
19:11Why am I not on the other side?
19:12How come I don't have any light?
19:14How come I lost this thing that Allah had given me?
19:16Every one of you sitting here,
19:18every believer has light inside their heart.
19:20Allah has granted it to us.
19:22The problem is whether or not
19:24you and I wanna hold on to it or not.
19:26So you and I have to identify where we are.
19:28Maybe we're the people
19:29that just started putting ourselves
19:30in a fitna situation.
19:32Maybe we just started getting ourselves
19:35caught up in the wrong thing.
19:37Or maybe we've been caught up for a while
19:39and we've been putting off, letting it go.
19:41Maybe that's happened.
19:42Maybe we've even gone further down the road
19:44and now we've started developing doubts.
19:46Maybe that's how far we've gone.
19:48Maybe we've gone way down the road.
19:53Now all we live for is,
19:55you know, toys and pleasures.
19:57That's all we live for now, is entertainment.
19:59That's what we've become.
20:01And so at the end of it all,
20:03nothing you earn, nothing I earn
20:05is worth anything on judgment day
20:07except that light.
20:08This is why when this passage began,
20:10Allah عز و جل described it with light.
20:13And that light is the only thing
20:15that matters on judgment day.
20:20The one who comes before Allah with a sound heart,
20:22the heart that can beam light in front of them.
20:24Anything else that you and I have,
20:27that we have now, is worthless.
20:30It's completely worthless before Allah on judgment day.
20:33You can enjoy it for now,
20:35but if you get caught up in it
20:36and it takes up the space in your heart,
20:38then you have no room left for light in your heart.
20:41You just don't have room left.
20:43Which is why the last ayah of this passage is,
20:53And today, there's not going to be any compensation,
20:57any ransom acceptable from you.
20:59Don't try to pawn it for anything else.
21:01There's no access into those doors.
21:03There's no getting through this door
21:05with any kind of penalty or payment.
21:07You can't get through.
21:08Not from you and not from those who disbelieved.
21:11The scary part of this ayah is,
21:17You are now in the same position as those who disbelieved.
21:20You ended up being in the same position as those who disbelieved.
21:23I'm not going to take any ransom from you,
21:26and I'm not going to take any ransom from them.
21:28All of you, your place is fire.
21:31What a terrible place to be that is.
21:33And so at the end of it all,
21:35after painting this scene, Allah concludes.
21:37And I'll conclude with this ayah as well.
21:40How is it that we can continue to preserve our light?
21:44And continue to remind ourselves
21:46not to put ourselves in that downward spiral?
21:48And whatever little light we have,
21:50how can we make it stronger and stronger and stronger?
Himself says,
21:59Isn't it yet time
22:01that believers' hearts
22:03should become, their hearts
22:05should become filled with awe
22:07with the remembrance of Allah.
22:09Truly remembering Allah
22:11will bring awe into the hearts.
22:13And the more your hearts remember Allah,
22:15because Allah Himself is
22:19Allah is the light of the skies and the earth.
22:21The more Allah is in your heart,
22:23the more light is inside your heart.
22:24You understand?
22:25So He says, remember Allah.
22:27And then He says, how do you remember Allah?
22:29This is called عَطَف بَيَان in Arabic.
22:32And they should be filled with awe
22:34because of what came down from the truth.
22:36Because of the revelation.
22:38Because of the Qur'an.
22:39Ponder over the Qur'an.
22:40Remember Allah through the Qur'an.
22:42Weep when you recite the ayat of Qur'an.
22:44Think about what they mean to you,
22:46the gift that Allah has given you.
22:48Because not only is Allah the light of the skies and the earth,
22:50the Qur'an itself is also
22:52described as light in the Qur'an.
22:58Believe in Allah
23:00Believe in Allah and His Messenger
23:02and the light that we sent down.
23:04Qur'an itself is called light.
23:06Qur'an itself is called light.
23:08And so the amount of time you spend with the book of Allah,
23:13for your own personal benefit.
23:15For your own personal benefit.
23:17When you sit and recite it and ponder over it,
23:20and you think about what Allah your Master is saying to you,
23:23that is going to fill your heart with light.
23:25And there is no more,
23:27you know, greater a treasure
23:29in your life than that light.
23:31And you won't realize the price of it,
23:33I won't realize the price of it,
23:34until we stand on that day when everything around us is dark,
23:37and the only light is the light coming out of my chest,
23:40and the only light coming out of my hands.
23:42That's when we'll realize.
23:51They shouldn't become like people
23:53who came a long time before them,
23:55who were given the book a long time before them,
23:57and a long period passed,
23:59and their hearts became hard.
24:01They had the book, but they didn't value it.
24:04It's possible Allah says that a nation will have a book,
24:07they will have the book of Allah.
24:08There were nations before us who had a book too.
24:10They had Torah, they had Injil,
24:12they had Suhuf Ibrahim and Musa, they had.
24:15But they didn't benefit from them.
24:19They didn't benefit from those books.
24:21They didn't use those books to fill their hearts with light.
24:24Maybe they used those books for the wrong reasons.
24:27Maybe they reduced those books to just ceremonial occasions.
24:30They just enjoyed reciting it sometime every once in a while.
24:33You know, that's all it became to them.
24:35Or maybe at some wedding gathering they can play some Qur'an,
24:38and that's how Qur'an became.
24:39But Qur'an was not there to soften their hearts anymore.
24:42And this is the tragedy of history.
24:44People did not benefit from the word of Allah
24:47that came to soften hearts,
24:48preparing humanity for standing before Allah on Judgment Day.
24:51That's our responsibility now.
24:53That's on you and that's on me.
24:55This is why,
25:01So their hearts became hard.
25:03Their hearts became hard.
25:05When the heart becomes hard, there's no light inside left.
25:08It's not gonna give you anything on Judgment Day.
25:12Most of them are corrupt.
25:13Many of them are corrupt.
25:15Allah عز و جل is now in these few ayat
25:18painting one of the most important realities,
25:21depicting one of the most important realities
25:23in the life of a believer.
25:24The iman you and I have
25:26is not something we can hold on to.
25:28This light that we have been given
25:30is not something that's guaranteed.
25:32It's not.
25:33Just because you have it now,
25:34and you feel secure.
25:36If somebody says salam to you,
25:37means they're Muslim.
25:38You say,
25:41They're both Muslims,
25:42they're believers to each other.
25:43We assume that we all have the light of faith
25:45inside our hearts.
25:46But according to these ayat,
25:47some people will stand up on Judgment Day and be shocked.
25:50I thought I was with you.
25:51And you're not.
25:53So we better realize that it's not automatic.
25:55It's not guaranteed.
25:56It's something you personally
25:58will have to make efforts for.
26:00I personally will have to make efforts for.
26:02And your iman will not help me,
26:04and my iman will not help you on Judgment Day.
26:07We're all gonna be caring about ourselves.
26:09Our own light.
26:12Go back, find your own light.
26:14Right now we can cooperate with each other.
26:17Right now we can strengthen each other's iman.
26:19But on that day, there's not gonna be any help.
26:21May Allah عز و جل make us of those
26:23who preserve the light in our hearts.
26:25May Allah عز و جل make us of those
26:26who are not on the wrong side of that wall,
26:28protect us and our families and our loved ones from nifaq.
26:31May Allah keep our hearts from becoming hard.
26:33And may Allah عز و جل make us of those
26:35who continually internalize the word of Allah,
26:38allowing our hearts to soften and to be filled with light.
