00:00An NGO has called on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to intervene after the Home Ministry
00:06refused to accept a memorandum from Sosma Detainee's family members demanding urgent
00:11answers about their loved one's well-being.
00:14The families, who staged a hunger strike outside Tsunebulo Prison last weekend, gathered at
00:19the Ministry Building today to push for a meeting with officials and hand over the memorandum.
00:24Sivan Doraisamy, Executive Director of Human Rights Group Suarum, said a Home Ministry
00:29official met with the families, but only said that she would relay their concerns.
00:34He urged Anwar to look into the matter, saying he himself had been incarcerated in Tsunebulo
00:39Prison and had encountered Sosma detainees during his time there.
00:43Sivan said the families were now considering further action, including resuming their hunger
00:48strike, continuing their protest outside the Ministry, or even marching to the Prime Minister's
00:53office.
00:54The family decided to go on a hunger strike in solidarity with the detainees after Human
00:57Rights Commission Suhakam said on Wednesday that it would investigate claims of inadequate
01:02medical care and delay trials faced by several Sosma detainees.
01:07Suarum said yesterday that the families wanted to meet Home Ministry officials in Putrajaya
01:11to demand answers as to why their applications to visit the detainees were refused.
