00:00Now it's the sit down with Jason Isaacs. Hi Jason!
00:03Season 3 of The White Lotus. Let's get into it. I hope you enjoy Thailand. We usually go to the Caribbean
00:09Walk us through the process of joining the cast. Were you already a fan of seasons 1 & 2?
00:14You're the first person I've ever said this to I've done already a hundred interviews about this and I lied
00:19To Mike and Dave and told them I was a huge fan. After the audition
00:22I binged season 1 & season 2. The only reason I hadn't watched it is my family had started without me
00:27They loved it like crazy and then season 2 came on they said watch it
00:30I went I want to see season 1 so I just hadn't caught up
00:32I watched all of them in a like a day and a half
00:35I basically just sat and stewed in my own filth watched it and
00:38Realized why people have made such a fuss and and then I was a fan
00:41But by then I think I had the job
00:43I went to audition and put myself on tape in New York when I was there because I was there to launch
00:48Archie's the show in which I played Cary Grant and I walked past
00:51All these giant billboards in Times Square with my face on it to go into a casting director's office
00:56Like I used to in my 20s and put myself on tape
00:59So that you know, I certainly couldn't get too big for my boots
01:03And I was anxious and nervous and chattery in there and and then I got the job
01:07I obviously didn't do too appalling a job
01:10Your character on the show is southern and it's funny to think there's a whole generation of people that don't know your English
01:17Yeah, yeah
01:17Well, a lot of people think I'm American they've seen him in American shows and it is odd
01:22In fact what I often do when I'm working if I'm doing films of television series
01:25Unlike this one where I had so much time off. I stay in my accent all day every day for me
01:29not not because it's method you don't stay in character, but I
01:33Remembered making a film called mass a couple of years ago
01:35And we were in Sun Valley and I went on my one day off to go and play tennis
01:39And I met all these lovely people. I play tennis with them and it was Matt's for Landers Club
01:43I was very excited and I left I came back. I was on my way back to the hotel and I thought
01:47I was American the whole time
01:49Forgotten all these people have met me. They must have known I was English. I don't know why they must thought I was mentally ill or something
01:55but I didn't stay my accent for this, but I
01:57Find it easier. I try I try and stay in it all day when we're filming just
02:01Because then when they say action you're not suddenly putting it on and I did I think I might stayed in it for a few
02:06Weeks before my wife arrived. That's a very intense
02:09I remember one very emotional night with who I want to one of the actors who told me some very personal things
02:14Me going home and thinking did they think
02:16Did they notice that I was being American and does that feel like a fake conversation because it was very
02:22You know very intimate
02:24It's just work stuff
02:30Who in your opinion has the potential to be the new Jennifer Coolidge this season
02:35I think that's a fatal mistake and I know that I understand why you ask it and I think the audience might begin to ask
02:40Himself that but Mike is too brilliant a writer and too endlessly inventive to repeat himself
02:45No one can be Jennifer Coolidge, but then no one could be our mom from season one either
02:49Jennifer Jennifer's kind of iconic viral, you know popularity
02:54Well is a one-off but Mike's genius is his stories and his characters
02:57And so he's not trying to build, you know a catchphrase or an iconic personality again
03:02He's just doing what he does. Well, and I think what people should do if they want to enjoy it is erase
03:07Comparisons and just while we have him, you know, enjoy the genius of Mike telling these stories these gays they're trying to murder me
03:15Okay, we don't want to have to let you go
03:17But we have to so to finish up in 10 seconds
03:19Tell everyone why they should check out the White Lotus season 3 if you like season 1 and season 2
03:25This is bigger better richer deeper. If you haven't seen the first two watch him now and then watch this
