Born Again’s' Showrunner And EPs Break Down Why They Killed Foggy

MAJOR spoilers for the premiere of "Daredevil: Born Again" are ahead! If you are looking to see this new era of "Daredevil," you can stream it with a Disney+ subscription.  As Charlie Cox said, killing off Foggy at the start of "Daredevil: Born Again" was a “bold move.” The death of Elden Henson’s character shocked fans immediately, and I couldn’t help but wonder why they decided to make such a big and tragic choice in the opening scenes of the show’s premiere on the 2025 TV schedule. Thankfully, the showrunner and executive producers answered that question for me.  However, that’s not all they did, they also revealed a big way Foggy’s death changed over the course of creating the show.

00:09But I think we all came to the same realization that it had to happen

00:13It's daredevil born again, you know, we have to bring Matt down to his bare essence

00:51Take a hammer to it and it's it's harsh and it hurts

00:54But it is also not done lightly because that loss

00:58Colors everything that goes on with Matt from here on out and I mean a version of it happened in the books

01:03But it was Karen and I mean like no

01:06So it was one of those things that it's very very tough to do, but I think ultimately it was inevitable

01:15It's part of the story and in in the daredevil world as fans

01:19Every loss has a new beginning every every time he hits the ground he gets back up and that we have to watch that

01:25Yeah, and if you think about the old show like so much this was the fear

01:29This was this is always the fear in Matt Murdock's life

01:32And I think there's so much story to tell when the fear comes to life relationship friendship

01:38Whatever it is with Karen gets just broken with a sledgehammer

01:44But you find Matt a year later

01:48Trying I think to approximate what foggy wanted for him

01:55Which is actually a really beautiful thing

01:58the you know and and and and Kirsten McDuffie and also Heather Glenn kind of

02:04Exists to support that new world. He's created for himself

02:09The unfortunate thing is that that world is a lie
