00:00Excuse me, from Iowa.
00:01Yesterday, I stood here opening the Senate and kicking off the 64th annual National Police Week.
00:12That is a week dedicated to the brave men and women who protect us and keep us safe.
00:20Now, tonight, as part of this week's celebration, marks the 37th annual candlelight.
00:28Each year, hundreds of officers killed in the line of duty are recognized and memorialized at this vigil.
00:39The name of each man and woman who gave their life will be read aloud.
00:46I encourage everyone to join me in recognizing their sacrifices.
00:52Honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice helps ensure that their contributions and legacies are preserved for generations to come.
01:04I encourage folks to visit the National Law Enforcement Memorial.
01:12The memorial contains what's called a quote-unquote pathways of remembrance,
01:21where the names of these courageous officers are engraved on the walls.
01:27These words are so very true, especially today.
01:57Today, as the new officers are engraved, their names are engraved on those walls.
02:05I yield the floor and suggest the absence of the quarrel.
