00:00Hi and welcome to the channel, Travel Umbrella, which covers all aspects of travel.
00:21In this video, which is the first video of two, we look at our recent Caribbean cruise
00:27on the P&O Britannia. And first of all, this was our first fly cruise. We normally, we've
00:34done a number of cruises, but we've always cruised sort of direct from the UK, mostly
00:39Southampton and once from Portsmouth. So this was our first fly cruise. We learnt a few lessons
00:45along the way, which may be useful for anyone else considering a fly cruise. So we look at
00:51the embarkation, the journey out, et cetera, from Bournemouth airport. And the first couple
00:57of islands we visited and some of the food and drink options as well. So as I say, first
01:02video of two. So anyway, enough of me waffling on, let's get on with it.
01:21So next adventure begins. Here we are Bournemouth airport, and this is typical Bournemouth airport.
01:31Empty, which is lovely. A short queue to check in over there. I wouldn't say it's sort of quiet
01:42here, but they have one flight every third Friday. So, me being a bit facetious, but anyway.
01:49This is nice, it's nice and quiet.
02:06And so, ten minutes ago we just arrived at the airport, walked in the door. We've checked
02:14in, we've gone through security. We're now sitting in the bar and Helen's just getting a couple
02:19of drinks. So that is the joy of Bournemouth airport. If you get the chance to travel if
02:25you're down south, avoid Gatwick and Bristol and all them busy places, come to Bournemouth.
02:32It's an absolute breeze. Car parking's easy, right opposite the departure terminal. And as I say,
02:42check in took like a minute, security a minute, and here we are sitting down, going to have
02:49a drink. Totally recommend Bournemouth airport. So, drinks. I'm having an orange juice and Helen's
03:01gone straight for the wine. Looks like a bit early in the morning for me to be drinking,
03:08so I'm just having a nice fresh orange juice. But they might have accidentally spilled some
03:16vodka in it, which is a bit out of order. So, I've just got to sit around and eat, drink and
03:24relax now. Ready for the long flight. So, it was a bit of a surprise, but a nice surprise,
03:43all the same. When we walked down the steps from the aircraft, as we were disembarking the
03:49aircraft, there were some coaches pulled up on the tarmac right next to the plane. What
03:54we didn't realise is that these coaches would take us direct to the Britannia and that all
04:00the checks would take place at the port terminal. So, hence we completely bypassed all of the
04:05hustle and bustle of the airport arrivals areas. It was a very slick operation and after a long
04:11flight it was nice to sort of just walk off the plane, get on the coach and be on our way.
04:16And suitcases were sorted all out for us, etc. and followed on later. So, yeah, very good
04:22system. Nice surprise.
04:46So, we're both in Barbados at the moment, there's a few ships of varying sizes out there. As you
04:53can see.

05:15you can see, there's an Aida, German one, the Aida Luna, and we're on the
05:24lovely Britannia, and it is lovely.
05:27So we're currently chilling at the
05:34the grand floor of the atrium, sometimes known as Deck 5.
05:40Just having a couple of quiet drinks, there's the stupendous chandelier, which is
05:48quite amazing, yet to sail away because flies a lot of
05:53flights are delayed. So there's people coming in from
05:57Manchester still, I think that's the last flight due in.
06:02And then we'll set sail, I guess, because they're all on board.
06:09Anyway, nice chill out area, air conditioning's nice, because it is still hot out there,
06:16even though it's dark.
06:24A bit of a
06:25I don't want it.
06:26I want it to be quite nice.
06:26But I'd say there's one of those hours there, even though it's still really cool.
06:27It's just very cool to see, and I'll be there and be a little bit more.
06:29And at the end, I'm going to be there and so did the rest of it.

06:57so day four our first uh port of call after leaving barbados was the um island of curacao
07:17i think that's pronounced correctly curacao is one of the abc islands all affiliated with holland
07:23um which is aruba bonaire and curacao we're not doing aruba on this trip but we were we booked
07:30to do it next next january so but we are doing bonaire so uh yeah curacao our first island after
07:38the barbados we just got off at curacao there is the lovely britannia
07:50it is a lovely ship and i really like the ship
07:56so it's quite good in as much as it drops you right in the town
08:04and everywhere looks like a flat walk which is helpful
08:09nice breeze actually which is quite welcome to be honest

12:24This is Mambo Beach, done a quick tour of a distillery, had a few tasters like you do.
12:41We've now got a bit of beach time, which is nice.
12:46I feel like old beer coming on, I must admit.
12:49Don't know whether to dunk first then beer afterwards or beer first then dunk up.
12:54So this is Curaçao, just really to show you guys where the ship moors up.
13:06So, as you walk off across the little pier there, there's sort of a little shopping village set up.
13:19Bars and snacks, restaurants and what have you.
13:24So, you don't have to go far if you want to taste a little bit of local culture.
13:28It's all there.
13:31That place over there where you can see sort of a man-made beach with a pool attached to it.
13:36That's a hotel or something, but you can buy a day pass there and it's $40 for a day pass.
13:44But they give you $20 back to spend on their food and drink, so $20 for a day pass for a pool and a little man-made beach with a good view of the ship etc.
13:58Probably not a bad deal.
13:59So yeah, as I say, if you don't want to do an organised trip or anything, there was taxis and buses and people selling tours out there when we got off the ship today.
14:13So yeah, it's all set up really for people like ourselves who get off the ship and don't necessarily know what they're doing.
14:22But yeah, as I say, even just to wander around the little market down there was nice enough.
14:29That bridge up the top, we went over the top of that earlier today.
14:35Good views from up there, as you can imagine.
14:38Oh, not the prettiest part of a...
14:44...to a shower, I'm sure.
14:46But yeah, we had a good little explore, spent a bit of time on the beach.

20:00There's the tourist information shack, as soon as you get off ship they give you little
20:07maps and things, all very, I don't think they're so well organised on these cruises I have to

20:30My wife spotted a shopping opportunity, drops you straight into this little shopping precinct
20:51which, yeah, good finding it I guess.
20:58Pretty picturesque though.

21:12So there's a quick look at the Serenity Pool, this is an adult only area, deck 17, forward,
21:24brow up here, pretty quiet as most people are in town, so a nice spot though.
