00:00:00To a generation gone, I'll sing for you this song.
00:00:05Let the people sing their stories and their songs,
00:00:10And the music of their native land.
00:00:15Their lullabies and battle cries and songs of hope and joy,
00:00:19So joyless hand is the hand.
00:00:24All across this ancient land,
00:00:28Throughout the taste of time,
00:00:32It was music that kept their spirits free,
00:00:37Those songs of yours and mine.
00:00:41Let the people sing their stories and their songs,
00:00:45And the music of their native land.
00:00:50Their lullabies and battle cries and songs of hope and joy,
00:00:54So joyless hand in hand.
00:00:58All across this ancient land,
00:01:03Throughout the taste of time,
00:01:06It was music that kept their spirits free,
00:01:12Those songs of yours and mine.
00:01:15This land is your land,
00:01:24This land is my land,
00:01:27From the Northern Highlands,
00:01:29To the Western Islands,
00:01:32From the hills of Cary,
00:01:34To the streets of Derry,
00:01:37This land was made for you and me,
00:01:42As I went walking by the Shannon water,
00:01:47As I went walking by the Shannon water,
00:01:49Where my little daughter,
00:01:50Where my little daughter,
00:01:52Hear the church bells ringing,
00:01:54And the children singing,
00:01:58This land was made for you and me,
00:02:02This land is your land,
00:02:05This land is my land,
00:02:08From the Northern Highlands,
00:02:10To the Western Islands,
00:02:13From the hills of Cary,
00:02:15To the streets of Derry,
00:02:19This land was made for you and me,
00:02:22This land was made for you and me,
00:02:23Climbed the mountain,
00:02:25By the crystal fountain,
00:02:28And I heard a great roar,
00:02:31From the rocky seashore,
00:02:33Her eyes were gleaming,
00:02:35She said, oh daddy, well this land was made for you and me, this land is your land, this land is my land, from the northern highlands to the western islands, from the hills of Cary to the streets of Cary.

00:03:26I'll see you next time.
00:03:56Signed some autographs before making their way inside the stadium ahead of the first pre-season game of the season against Queen's Park. A very warm welcome to all our Celtic TV viewers, particularly on July 4th. A warm welcome to our American viewers on Independence Day. I hope you are celebrating that special occasion where you are.
00:04:20I promise you, when you look at the pictures of the pitch and the sky, it is July the 4th in Glasgow as well, but it has been a pretty miserable day. It has been high winds, it has been rain.
00:04:33Not the best day to celebrate the life of Usman by John Clarke, who was laid to rest earlier this morning. That is Glasgow, that is the west of Scotland. It was a great turnout, not just at St Mary's Chomps in the car, but also outside Celtic Park on Celtic Way.
00:04:49The welcome and applaud John Clarke's funeral cortege as it took the legendary sweeper past Celtic Park for the last time. Peter Grant is alongside me. Peter, before we go into team news, what about John Clarke? I know he was someone that you knew very well.
00:05:07Yes, he was my first real hero Gerry, to be perfectly honest with you, because being a chapel hall boy and John being a chapel hall boy, I used to go by his door, I'm big friends with Marie and I was privileged that Marie asked me to do a reading last evening when John got to enter the chapel, so I was very privileged in that, but that was the place I used to go, round by his door, trying to see if I could get a look at him as a young man.
00:05:28And it was, as I said, that never ever changed. I was always on oil, even when I come back later as a coach, the last time really I got to see John when he was the kit man.
00:05:36And that just shows you the humility of the man and the person he was, but a fantastic man, a fantastic family, and it was a very sad day, but the family should be proud of what they put together for John today.
00:05:46Absolutely, it really was a wonderful service. Brendan Rodgers, his coaching staff and the team were there as well. They're here tonight at the City Stadium. Let's take a look at the Celtic line-up tonight.
00:05:56It's a mixture of youth and experience. A lot of the international players just came back to the pre-season training today, so they won't be involved in the game.
00:06:03But Ross Dewan, the goalkeeper, back at the club of course, he's in goal. It's a back four of Colby Donovan, Dane Murray, Austin Trusty and Mitchell Frame.
00:06:11An experienced midfield three of Callum McGregor, Arna Engles and Luke McCown. And a relatively inexperienced front three of Jude Bonner, Adam Montgomery and Johnny Kenny.
00:06:20Yes, but you can look at that and you can see Brendan, what he's doing there. He's trying to get that balance in the middle of the pitch, right?
00:06:25With that little bit of experience, as you talk about, because that helps the young boys at the back. Obviously, Trusty's had a few games in the first team.
00:06:31But you look at the front gate guys, they're younger players. Kenny came in and done well, and I thought in a few games, especially at Aberdeen, I thought his movement was very good.
00:06:38Montgomery's had a bit of a problem with injuries, he was out here last year at Queen's Park. But as I say, McGregor, McCown and Engles, they'll be the ones that will be setting the tone for these young boys.
00:06:46And that's what they've got to end up to get the stripes in the pre-season games. It's all about them impressing the manager every time they perform, but not, as I say, trying to force it.
00:06:56The manager will probably talk about all this, because it's pre-season. You have to work really hard, you have to move the ball quickly.
00:07:01I think the experienced guys will give them that guidance, which you definitely need at this time of the season.
00:07:06Well, let's hear what the words of guidance were from Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers. A short time ago, he spoke to our reporter, Alan Docherty.
00:07:14Brendan, it's been a sombre day at the football club, remembering the life and legacy of John Clarke. But in football, the focus can shift so quickly.
00:07:23The first game of pre-season is now. How are you feeling about getting it all going once again?
00:07:28I'm feeling really good. I think it is, you know, poignant to mention John and the service this morning at St Mary's was so beautiful and great to see so many people there and acknowledge what a real titan of this club John was.
00:07:43So he'll always be remembered and it was a real fitting send-off for him. And then, like you say, we switch over to tonight, the first game of pre-season.
00:07:53It doesn't feel like a year. God we ever stood here. Better conditions, man. But yeah, it's going to be really nice. Players have worked really hard over this last week.
00:08:01And now we play two teams, 2.45 minutes and look forward to the game.
00:08:06Is today's game, Brendan, more about minutes and performance than the result? Or is Celtic manager, is there always a demand to win?
00:08:14Well, I always say, listen, winning isn't clearly important. The number one factor here is to develop your football fitness. I think that's what's absolutely key.
00:08:22But I've always said when you're at Celtic, there's no pre-season friendlies. There are always tests and that's how we approach them.
00:08:28So the focus is on the physicality of the game and what we can get out of it that way.
00:08:34But of course, there's other little targets that we set within the game to try and achieve.
00:08:38There's a number of young players involved tonight and they've been involved in the week of work as the players report back.
00:08:43What's your message to those players tonight looking to hopefully catch the eye of the manager?
00:08:48Well, I think it's don't force it. Just they know that they'll make mistakes and that's OK.
00:08:55Don't put your head down, keep it up and get on with it.
00:08:58So this is just purely for their fitness.
00:09:01But like you say, there is always an opportunity in pre-season for any young players to show up and it's something that I always look for in my pre-season.
00:09:10You know, we've had a young guy, Connor Daly, who's trained with us for this last week, who may or may not get some game time tonight.
00:09:17But he's really impressed me with his personality and how he's trained and the focus in his game and the quality of his game.
00:09:25So for all the players, really all about the fitness and for the young players, just don't force it. Just go and play and be free.
00:09:33Well, Brendan, thanks for joining us and good luck. Pleasure. Thank you.
00:09:36Interesting to hear the manager, Peter, there talk about, you know, the young players won't let your head go down if you do make a mistake.
00:09:46Try and not make a mistake. Give a special word there to the young Connor Daly.
00:09:50Literally just signed his first professional contract last week. This must be an absolute dream come true.
00:09:5516 years old, just turned 16 at the turn of the year. Absolute whole future ahead of him.
00:10:02Might not see him tonight as the manager said, but looking at the young players in the team and on the squad as well.
00:10:08But it gets to a point where and I'm looking at the likes of, you know, Dame Murray's 22, Adam Montgomery's 22.
00:10:15Kyle Ure, who's done so well for the B team, he's on the bench, he's 23. There comes a point where you need to be getting games.
00:10:22Well, it just shows you the change. I mean, it was 17 and 18 when I was playing.
00:10:27If you weren't good enough then, of not playing the first team regularly enough, you would let go.
00:10:32Not because you were a bad player, just because it was important that you go out and play games of football.
00:10:36And I think you're right. It gets to a stage now that these boys, the B team will be no use for them anymore.
00:10:41You know, it's getting out there and playing games where it matters, when the supporters are there, they're giving you criticism, they're giving you praise.
00:10:46Points are at stake. Contracts are at stake for these guys who want a lot of these guys.
00:10:51Even the part-time clubs, you go back to them, some of them go out and learn to the part-time clubs.
00:10:55How important that was even as a learning thing for them in these days.
00:10:58And you talk about the Celtic greats that have done it.
00:11:00They've seen that players who learned the Dalglishes and the McGrane's all started doing it that way.
00:11:04So it's very important, but you're 100% right. It gets to a stage where they've got to say, I want to go out and play week in, week out.
00:11:10I don't want to be a Celtic bag holder. I want to go out there and play and make a career for myself.
00:11:15Brendan's got young boys here, you're talking about young daily at 16 years of age, a great opportunity.
00:11:19And that's what we're talking about, the McGregors, McCowns, Engles, all playing, international players.
00:11:24McCown's come in and showed you, even late in his career at 27 coming to Celtic, how important it is, you're still learning all the time.
00:11:30So for these young boys, sharing a dressing room with them, never making a pitch with them, it's so, so important, the way the standards are set.
00:11:37Well, I'm sure the gentlemen taking up half your view will sit down eventually as Callum McGregor leads the Celtic team out for the first time this season.
00:11:51Celtic's pre-season begins here. You can see the national stadium in the background. This is the City Stadium, home to Queen's Park.
00:11:59They still do play a lot of their games at hand in this stadium, not quite finished to capacity as to what they would like it to be.
00:12:07Celtic then head to Cork to play in the Cork Super Cup against Cork City, that one on Tuesday.
00:12:13And then they head over to Portugal to continue their pre-season before heading back to Glasgow for a game against Newcastle,
00:12:19and then over to Italy for a couple of games in the Como Cup. So a very packed pre-season ahead for Celtic.
00:12:27As both sets of players gather around the centre circle for a minute's applause for the late, great Lisbon line legend, that is John Clarke.
00:12:38John Clarke, the players will wear black armbands tonight as well as a mark of respect for a man who gave so much for the club in so many different ways,
00:12:47not just as a player, but as a coach, an assistant manager and a kit man. John Clarke really was a Celtic man who I'm through.
00:12:56Let's go out.
00:13:42Great mark of respect from both sets of players, I think I'm right in saying that John himself would probably have been a little bit embarrassed that his funeral service was on a match day, such a professional that he is in the game and it's Celtic, but these players absolutely turned out in their numbers at the service this morning to show their respects.
00:14:06But Callum McGregor now will take the team into the huddle for the first time. I should say this is Queen's Park's final pre-season game of the season.
00:14:14They've had three warm-up matches before the League Cup group phase begins for them next Saturday against Spartans.
00:14:21So, the manager talking about, you know, getting the minutes in the leg, it's all about this Queen's Park.
00:14:28They did finish earlier than Celtic, of course, but they have been back to action over the last couple of weeks and they are pretty much as you would expect to be at this stage in their season playing at Bill Strand.
00:14:39Oh, definitely they are, there's no doubt of that, they've made a few signings, this is definitely their first choice of living.
00:14:45There's no doubt of that and that's good for Celtic because it means you've got to move the ball quickly and I think that's the most important thing you do in pre-season.
00:14:51Get the ball moving as quick as you can, because you know you're not at your best yet and you're still trying to get that fitness up and no doubt the boys have probably trained today as well.
00:14:59And that's part of pre-season and that's what Brendan will be looking for.
00:15:08Early free kick, given Celtic's way, if you've just joined us, the Celtic team is Ross Doohan in goal.
00:15:14Colby Donovan, Dane Murray, Austin Trusty and Mitchell Frame, all at the back.
00:15:18Callum McGregor, Arnott Engels and Luke McCowan in the middle.
00:15:22Jude Bonner, and the ball there, Adam Montgomery and Johnny Kenny.
00:15:26It's worth pointing out that both Adam Montgomery and Lane Murray were on loan here at Queen's Park not too long ago,
00:15:32so they'll be very familiar with a lot of the opposition players tonight.
00:15:38Yeah, listen, it was a fantastic breeding ground for these young boys to go out.
00:15:41Unfortunately, Montgomery got an injury and missed a big part of the season.
00:15:45Because he's always looked as if he's going to be a player.
00:15:48Unfortunately, a couple of times he's went out, it's just not worked out for him.
00:15:51But it's a big chance for him now, especially in pre-season.
00:15:54You've got to make sure in this period that you make the manager come back and think,
00:15:59he done well for me today, and maybe surprise you.
00:16:02Because look, I think Liam Scales is probably the prime example for all these youngsters.
00:16:06Everybody thought he was out the door.
00:16:07We had a few pre-season games and then became integral to the season that Celtic had.
00:16:12Good Bonner plays the ball in, a nice ball swept in with that left foot of his.
00:16:16Chance on the edge of the box there for Luke McCowan,
00:16:18but his shot is blocked and it breaks to Austin Trusty.
00:16:24The right-hand side.
00:16:26Played in again by Bonner.
00:16:28Headed away, can Celtic get to grips with this and Innspark come away with it,
00:16:32but Aidan Connolly there running straight into Austin Trusty.
00:16:37Innspark player clearly coming off second best to that one as the rain
00:16:41falls heavily in Glasgow's south side.
00:16:45It's a good experience for young Paddy Connolly's boy.
00:16:49He's just moved there, actually.
00:16:51Perfect for him because he lives just round the road.
00:16:54But it's a good experience, he's got to run away with the ball.
00:16:55He's a very technical player, but Trusty's done well.
00:16:58That's what I'm saying, that's pre-season for you.
00:17:03One ball forward, looking for the run of Michael Ruth.
00:17:06Hank, Michael, across!
00:17:11George Fowler's the man, isn't it?
00:17:12How I want to get the goals is alongside Ruth.
00:17:17Well, it's had a couple pre-season, number 14 you can see there,
00:17:20up front for Queen's Park.
00:17:24Ruth's very quick.
00:17:26That's one thing about Ruth, he'll run in behind you,
00:17:27he'll ask questions off you.
00:17:29Celtic playing that high line, I'm sure,
00:17:30that's what Queen's Park will be looking to try and leave some balls in behind,
00:17:34especially with Louis Longridge in the middle of the pitch.
00:17:36A good experienced player, along with Connolly and Bradley,
00:17:40well-played at a higher level.
00:17:50Henry Fielton on the ball there,
00:17:52trying to get past Gerd Bonner,
00:17:54puts inside,
00:17:55runs into Kobe Donovan,
00:17:56Callum McGregor there,
00:17:58back helping out the two youngsters.
00:18:01Regs the ball through,
00:18:01that's...
00:18:02play out of defence from the Celtic captain,
00:18:05but he has to do it again.
00:18:07Square ball this time.
00:18:11You can see how the rain is just blowing across the pitch,
00:18:15it is extremely windy today,
00:18:17really uncharacteristically windy,
00:18:21not particularly uncharacteristically rainy
00:18:24for this time of the year,
00:18:25but it is a very windy day,
00:18:27so that will make for tricky conditions.
00:18:29First day two,
00:18:33Mitchell Frame.
00:18:36Youngster, you may remember,
00:18:37played in the Champions League recently,
00:18:38the 1-0 win against
00:18:40Ryan Ord,
00:18:41Mitchell Frame.
00:18:43His debut that night,
00:18:44here's...
00:18:45ball played in
00:18:46by Donovan.
00:18:48And for the turn there,
00:18:49from
00:18:49Kenny,
00:18:51just couldn't get the connection required
00:18:53from the shot,
00:18:54and it's an easy take.
00:18:55Callum Ferry.
00:18:56Yeah, it was a good ball in by Donovan.
00:18:58You know,
00:18:58I thought Kenny had lost control of it,
00:19:00but they call good strikers,
00:19:01they don't give up at round about the box,
00:19:03and he tries to get shot away,
00:19:04just doesn't connect with it.
00:19:11Well, the stage is Celtic
00:19:14with plenty of possession
00:19:15in the opening five minutes or so.
00:19:19Very tight stadium,
00:19:20you can see your cameras
00:19:21are very close to the dugout,
00:19:22so you're hearing lots of instructions
00:19:24being thrown,
00:19:24mainly by...
00:19:26Sean Crichton,
00:19:27the Queen's Park manager,
00:19:29so you may hear some
00:19:30rather fruity language,
00:19:32so I'll just warn
00:19:34parents who have got any kids watching.
00:19:38What, you meant from in here?
00:19:39Not from in here,
00:19:40no, we are extremely professional,
00:19:41Peter Grant,
00:19:42as always.
00:19:45We're not feel by Burke,
00:19:46but
00:19:46taken down well.
00:19:48And Donovan.
00:19:52McEwen now.
00:19:53Thayne Murray.
00:19:56First time pass,
00:19:57runs that ball in again
00:19:59from Goodwana.
00:20:02Celtic made another signing today,
00:20:04Neato Inomura
00:20:05from Negata
00:20:06in the J-League.
00:20:07Bravo!
00:20:0923-year-old left-sided defender,
00:20:11signs on for four years
00:20:12at Celtic.
00:20:1520th time in the transfer window,
00:20:16also are expecting more signings
00:20:18as the weeks go on.
00:20:20All right across there,
00:20:21breaks now to Engel,
00:20:23scores for the shot
00:20:24and it's blocked there.
00:20:27Right.
00:20:28Goldberg.
00:20:28One thing you see about Celtic,
00:20:32they're trying to play forward
00:20:33quickly,
00:20:34get the crosses in,
00:20:35get the ball into Kenny
00:20:36as quickly as possible can.
00:20:38There's the summer weather.
00:20:40Wow.
00:20:41Not surprising.
00:20:42It's pretty tropical.
00:20:45That's the positive spin.
00:20:47Corner to Celtic then,
00:20:48Arna Engels
00:20:48to swing this one in
00:20:49with his right foot.
00:20:51High in swing up,
00:20:52headed away,
00:20:52but only as far as
00:20:53Luke McCown.
00:20:54Thought about the shot,
00:20:55gives it to
00:20:55McGregor.
00:20:58Cross comes in,
00:20:59an easy take for
00:21:01Callum Ferry
00:21:02in goal for Queen's Park.
00:21:06My hero of the season
00:21:08last year,
00:21:09Callum Ferry.
00:21:14Why would that have been?
00:21:15I wonder.
00:21:19Just letting that one bounce now,
00:21:21Callum McGregor
00:21:22strides out past two
00:21:23defenders with
00:21:24the referee's going to
00:21:25pull that one back.
00:21:26Longridge started one
00:21:27possession,
00:21:28but the referee
00:21:28pulling that one back
00:21:29for the earlier
00:21:30foul on the Celtic captain.
00:21:34You can see Queen's Park
00:21:35system are trying to get
00:21:36close to Celtic,
00:21:36but Celtic have found it well
00:21:37as they're getting
00:21:38the fullbacks on the ball
00:21:39with Queen's Park
00:21:40playing the three,
00:21:41which is making it
00:21:42very difficult
00:21:42to go out to the fullbacks.
00:21:48Lane Murray for Celtic.
00:21:49Henry Fieldson kept his eye on the ball,
00:22:00defended well.
00:22:01Some supporters at the top of the mound
00:22:03there trying to get a free view.
00:22:05Fish up and watch it for outside.
00:22:08Rounding under the trees for some shelter.
00:22:10Careful if there's any
00:22:11under and lightning, folks.
00:22:13Goal kick.
00:22:17Queen's Park.
00:22:19Just joined us,
00:22:20seven and a half minutes or so gone.
00:22:22It's a Queen's Park 0,
00:22:23Celtic 0.
00:22:25Celtic's first pre-season game
00:22:26of the season.
00:22:27You see the manager's talking a lot
00:22:47because this is his first job
00:22:48as manager.
00:22:50You know,
00:22:50this is his first job
00:22:51getting in here.
00:22:52John Crichton,
00:22:53the Queen's Park manager, yeah.
00:22:54He wanted to put a stamp
00:22:55on his team
00:22:55right away,
00:22:56you know,
00:22:57because as you said,
00:22:58they've got a quick start next week.
00:22:59So that's good for Celtic also
00:23:00because they've got a tempo
00:23:01round about them.
00:23:02And that's,
00:23:03it doesn't matter how much running
00:23:04and all the physical work you do.
00:23:06Playing the games is a thing
00:23:07it gets you sharper.
00:23:08There's no doubt in my mind of that.
00:23:10Yeah,
00:23:113-3 draw against Albion Rovers
00:23:12recently.
00:23:13They lost 1-0 to Clyde
00:23:15and beat Annen 2-0
00:23:16in their other pre-season games
00:23:18but they start in their
00:23:19league phase of the League Cup
00:23:20next Saturday
00:23:21against Spartans.
00:23:23The Queen's Park.
00:23:24Awareness there from Ros Doohan
00:23:26quickly closed down by Fowler
00:23:28but
00:23:28I'm away with it.
00:23:33Into Doohan
00:23:33well outside his box
00:23:35gives it to
00:23:35Murray.
00:23:40One of them back to Murray.
00:23:46Boston Trusty now
00:23:47up and over the halfway line.
00:23:48Central frame with the cross there
00:23:59deflected behind
00:24:00for the Celtic corner.
00:24:06Another one for
00:24:12Arnett Engels to
00:24:13swing in with his right foot.
00:24:15Celtic have plenty of height
00:24:17in there.
00:24:18Oh, the header there.
00:24:20The near post area.
00:24:23Donovan coming in.
00:24:28As we always say,
00:24:29you want that first touch.
00:24:32You get that run
00:24:33across the line
00:24:34and about in the Engels
00:24:34we know he's got that
00:24:35quality of delivery.
00:24:36The conditions probably help
00:24:37as well with the wind blowing
00:24:38and the rain
00:24:39fouling down on top
00:24:40of the goalkeeper.
00:24:43Yeah, I'm not sure
00:24:44the wind knows
00:24:45which way it's blowing though.
00:24:48Classic swirling wind
00:24:49the Celtic come forward.
00:24:52Montgomery,
00:24:52Engels,
00:24:54Frame,
00:24:55low ball across.
00:24:56Flags up on
00:24:57this near side
00:24:59for offside
00:25:00against Mitchell Frame.
00:25:00West, West, West, West, East.
00:25:04Come on.
00:25:12I think he was going
00:25:12with a hybrid there.
00:25:15I'm going to take
00:25:16I'm going to speak
00:25:18to you.
00:25:18Sorry.
00:25:19He's been lowering me.
00:25:20I'll do speak to you.
00:25:22I'm not speaking.
00:25:24Again, you can't say
00:25:25this thing.
00:25:25It's a good day.
00:25:26You can't start that.
00:25:26I'm going to do it.
00:25:27I'm going to do it.
00:25:27I'm going to do it.
00:25:28I'm going to do it.
00:25:28I'm going to do it.
00:25:29I'm going to do it.
00:25:30I'm going to do it.
00:25:30Oh, bouncing around
00:25:35like a pinball
00:25:35in the midfield.
00:25:37Celtic have it
00:25:38under control now
00:25:38with Rusty
00:25:40with his central
00:25:42defensive partner
00:25:42Dane Murray.
00:25:45Bonavent forward.
00:25:47Jude Bonner.
00:25:48Has it come off Bonner?
00:25:49Last at mid.
00:25:51Pops it was
00:25:52for Queen's Park.
00:25:54Closer.
00:25:55Closer.
00:25:57Gallo.
00:25:57Closer.
00:25:58And then he can start.
00:26:03Trust him.
00:26:03We're getting a real
00:26:03coach's view.
00:26:06Absolutely.
00:26:06Coach's audio
00:26:08throughout this.
00:26:09It's almost as if
00:26:09the Queen's Park manager
00:26:10has mic'd up.
00:26:11Not sure he realises it.
00:26:12But anyway.
00:26:13Be fair,
00:26:14he's kept his count so well.
00:26:16so far.
00:26:20Coming forward.
00:26:22Montgomery
00:26:22as well
00:26:23keeps possession
00:26:24back to Engles
00:26:25trying to slide that one
00:26:26through to
00:26:26Johnny Kenny.
00:26:29Celtic still have it though.
00:26:30Dallin McGregor.
00:26:34Almost the
00:26:34perfect ball
00:26:35through the middle
00:26:36there from McCowan.
00:26:37Leared upfield.
00:26:40Now out to
00:26:41Montgomery.
00:26:44Engles fancies it.
00:26:46I just couldn't get
00:26:47the dip on it.
00:26:49See as soon as he got it
00:26:49and saw the space.
00:26:50Only one thing
00:26:51on the Belgian's mind.
00:26:53He's more than capable.
00:26:54There's no doubt of that.
00:26:55He just takes it up.
00:26:56Good position.
00:26:57His old midfielder,
00:26:58he's let's the ball roll
00:26:59across his body.
00:27:00He just thinks
00:27:01it's going to dip.
00:27:02Just doesn't get down
00:27:03quick enough.
00:27:03But a fantastic effort.
00:27:09Defending there
00:27:10from
00:27:10Colby Donovan.
00:27:12Greenspark have it.
00:27:15With force back.
00:27:16Cleared upfield
00:27:16from Charles Fox.
00:27:18More takers there.
00:27:21And the Spiders.
00:27:28They've done quite well
00:27:32in the respect.
00:27:33They're trying to
00:27:34keep the five
00:27:35against Celtic's
00:27:36three midfield players.
00:27:37They're trying to
00:27:38force the ball wide.
00:27:40Knowing that Celtic
00:27:40have got only one man
00:27:41in the box
00:27:41and the crosses come in.
00:27:42That's what they're
00:27:43hoping to deal with.
00:27:44As you can see here.
00:27:45There's a cross.
00:27:45Another decent one.
00:27:46Celtic had men in there.
00:27:49And the end goes one of them.
00:27:50But it's another
00:27:51testing delivery there
00:27:52from Jude Bonner.
00:27:54There's a great ball in
00:27:55and you get bodies
00:27:56in the box.
00:27:56But that's the problem
00:27:57they have because
00:27:58they're defending so narrow.
00:28:00You're going to allow
00:28:00crosses in.
00:28:01But this time Celtic
00:28:02get more bodies
00:28:02in the box.
00:28:04There's a great ball in.
00:28:13These players come back
00:28:13to pre-season training
00:28:14last Friday.
00:28:15They saw they've been back
00:28:16getting their sharpness
00:28:17up for a week or so.
00:28:18But it's not like
00:28:19your day Peter
00:28:20where during the
00:28:21summer months
00:28:21they just downed tools.
00:28:22They all went away
00:28:24and they all had
00:28:25their own special
00:28:25fitness programme
00:28:26so they've been
00:28:27keeping their fitness
00:28:27up to a reasonable
00:28:28level for the few
00:28:30weeks they were off.
00:28:31I'm going to miss you
00:28:32a little bit there
00:28:32because I think
00:28:33we used to look
00:28:33after ourselves
00:28:34maybe the first
00:28:35week or two
00:28:35because you used
00:28:36to get the six
00:28:37weeks off.
00:28:38That was the difference.
00:28:39You know that was
00:28:39the difference.
00:28:40But then the last
00:28:40four weeks
00:28:41you were doing
00:28:4210 mile runs
00:28:42yourself just making
00:28:43sure.
00:28:44Well I'm not sure
00:28:44Peter Latchford was.
00:28:47Everybody else was.
00:28:50I apologise.
00:28:51I did you a
00:28:52disservice
00:28:52there Peter
00:28:53but I wasn't
00:28:53talking about you
00:28:54personally.
00:28:56A long searching
00:28:56ball here
00:28:57turns perhaps
00:28:58another end
00:29:00for Queen's Park
00:29:01almost ran out
00:29:02of space there
00:29:03so the passback
00:29:06wasn't as accurate
00:29:08as they would have
00:29:08liked.
00:29:10Celtic with the
00:29:11bulk of possession
00:29:12now find themselves
00:29:12at the other end
00:29:14of the pitch.
00:29:15you can see
00:29:18you can see
00:29:18the front two
00:29:19that Queen's Park
00:29:20have
00:29:20they've got a
00:29:21little bit of pace
00:29:21there's no doubt
00:29:22of it
00:29:22and that's the ball
00:29:23that we'll be
00:29:23trying more of
00:29:24because that's
00:29:25something they'll
00:29:25have to do
00:29:25in the league
00:29:26they're in
00:29:26so the manager's
00:29:27doing that right
00:29:28the tactic
00:29:28he's got
00:29:29the problem
00:29:30is trying to get the
00:29:30ball off Celtic
00:29:31when they've got it
00:29:32but it's good
00:29:34as I say
00:29:35they're up to his
00:29:35speed
00:29:35makes Celtic
00:29:36work that
00:29:37little bit harder.
00:29:37ball breaks back
00:29:41sliding tackle
00:29:42comes in
00:29:43the shots
00:29:44on target
00:29:44there
00:29:45from Jamie Bradley
00:29:47first real attack
00:29:49from Queen's Park
00:29:50after 15 minutes
00:29:52the score
00:29:53remains goalless
00:29:54honour
00:30:02to Morrie
00:30:05now trusty
00:30:07Morrie again
00:30:21honour out to
00:30:25Donovan
00:30:25his
00:30:27team
00:30:28teammate
00:30:28Celtic just
00:30:35spreading the ball
00:30:38around
00:30:39trying to switch
00:30:39that point of attack
00:30:40Queen's Park
00:30:41just
00:30:41sitting back
00:30:42in their shape
00:30:43inviting Celtic
00:30:44to try and break
00:30:45through their
00:30:45defensive lines
00:30:46well you're right
00:30:48but I think
00:30:48if our full back
00:30:50steady playing
00:30:50inside should play
00:30:51a little bit wider
00:30:52because it makes
00:30:53their midfield player
00:30:53work a lot harder
00:30:55he's got to use
00:30:55his legs a lot
00:30:56more to get out
00:30:57there
00:30:57at this moment
00:30:58in time because
00:30:59we're playing a little
00:30:59bit narrow
00:31:00it's allowing them
00:31:00to get close to us
00:31:01whereas in this
00:31:03side of the pitch
00:31:03we're able to get
00:31:04the cross in
00:31:04because they're
00:31:05staying wide
00:31:05greasy surface
00:31:09there
00:31:09Donovan
00:31:13slipped when he was
00:31:14in a bit of space
00:31:14there
00:31:15Celtic's right hand
00:31:16side but
00:31:17Celtic still
00:31:18retained possession
00:31:20McGregor looks
00:31:21for the one
00:31:22through the middle
00:31:22has to be
00:31:23absolutely pinpoint
00:31:24on this greasy
00:31:25surface
00:31:25just a little bit
00:31:27ahead of Johnny
00:31:27Kenny
00:31:27straight into the
00:31:28arms
00:31:28Callum Ferry
00:31:29yeah but I'm
00:31:31sure the players
00:31:31will be happy
00:31:32with the pitch
00:31:32the way it's got
00:31:33the greasy surface
00:31:34because there's
00:31:34nothing worse
00:31:34when you're
00:31:35playing dry
00:31:35pitches
00:31:36especially pre-season
00:31:37it's a nightmare
00:31:38it lets you
00:31:40move the ball
00:31:40quicker
00:31:41there's no doubt
00:31:41of that
00:31:42it's a right idea
00:31:43but there's good
00:31:44movement to Johnny
00:31:45Kenny
00:31:45trying to play it
00:32:02through the middle
00:32:02that time but
00:32:03dispossessed
00:32:05a resolute
00:32:07means part
00:32:08defence
00:32:08here's
00:32:09Fulton
00:32:10well forward
00:32:14looking for
00:32:14Michael
00:32:15Ruth
00:32:15but it's
00:32:16out by
00:32:17Donovan
00:32:17there's this
00:32:23earlier chance
00:32:24the shot
00:32:24Bradley
00:32:29easy taking
00:32:31the end
00:32:31from
00:32:31Ross
00:32:32doing
00:32:32he does
00:32:37well
00:32:38getting
00:32:38ahead
00:32:38of
00:32:38Fowler
00:32:39now
00:32:42McGregor
00:32:43Montgomery
00:32:46McKewen
00:33:03I'm sure Brendan Rodgers has a plan in terms of getting most of the players in the squad some minutes tonight,
00:33:20so a lot of these players know that perhaps they're only going to play 45, see if they can get ahead here,
00:33:26look Macau on edge of the area quickly, pulls down a real chance and it is the opening goal and it is Johnny Kenny who gets the first goal of the season for Celtic,
00:33:3918 and a half minutes gone here at the City Stadium and Johnny Kenny makes it Queen's Park 0, Celtic 1.
00:33:45Yeah, frame does smashing because Johnny Kenny just holds his position, there's only one ball that can come back out,
00:33:50like all good strikers, he's always between the posts here, you can see his movement here, a little bit of force in here,
00:33:55look, he doesn't move, he stays in there, he knows he can finish first time, it's a fantastic finish, great credit to him.
00:34:06Yeah, great commitment from Mitchell Frame as well, started the move out on the left hand side and he was the one to have the awareness to cut it back for Johnny finishing.
00:34:13Yeah, but it's easy for the young striker to make the run to the front post, a run in top of the defender, he just held his position,
00:34:18Frame could pick him out, he was intelligent enough to roll the ball back to him.
00:34:25So for the manager it's about the legs, it's about the time and the fitness but the players are glad to be ahead in the match as well.
00:34:32Celtic looking to strike again quickly, perhaps catching Queen's Park a little bit at 6s and 7s, Celtic got a throw in inside,
00:34:44the opponent's half taken quickly, on the angles now.
00:34:50They're offside against Montgomery but here's Frame across, another chance, oh that was a great chance.
00:34:57Just a couple of yards from goal there, I think it was Jude Bonner coming in.
00:35:01Yeah it was, I think he's actually got to score, it's a great ball across, it's a great run, opposite wide man getting in the box,
00:35:07once he gets there, I genuinely believe he's got to put the ball in the back of the net.
00:35:10Goals, there's that one back to McGregor, Montgomery, trusty.
00:35:23Montgomery's pass is blocked out for a go to Celtic.
00:35:44You can see on that side of the pitch, because Montgomery's holding the position, because he's more, the more I've seen him,
00:35:53he's probably played one up as a left-sided midfield player or the higher one.
00:35:57You see that naturally, he's doing that even though he's playing at left back.
00:36:00He keeps that space and now you see Queen's Park have got to work a hell of a lot harder to keep that width.
00:36:07Combination there but that's a dangerous late challenge from Colby Donovan, thankfully,
00:36:12back on his feet.
00:36:15Donovan, Jude Bonner linking well down this right-hand side.
00:36:21Thankfully he didn't contact the shins. Yeah, thankfully he's been off the ground, thankfully.
00:36:27Kick to Celtic though in a dangerous position, look, McCown over this one.
00:36:32Swing this one in with his left foot.
00:36:35Wins just died down now, so...
00:36:42Cowan will, yeah, generate the curl on his own.
00:36:50So Celtic one up looking for a second.
00:36:55McCown high to the back post, Austin, Trusty it was that made contact, McGregor coming in.
00:37:06Couldn't get his hip over the ball there, high over the top from the Celtic captain.
00:37:10Yeah, I don't know if it's just over hip and it's went to Trusty at the back post, but Trusty does exceptionally well
00:37:15to knock it back across goal.
00:37:17I think maybe Luke's just trying to fire in at that back post.
00:37:21But Trusty does the right thing to head it across goal, but Fox is there.
00:37:25I've seen Callum scoring a hell of a lot of goals there last season outside the box.
00:37:34Yeah, McGregor started the season with really important goals outside the box for Celtic.
00:37:40Hope he can do the same in this campaign.
00:37:43Hope he can work it down the left-hand side. Here's Adam Montgomery.
00:37:56Coses to go back to...
00:37:58Trusty, the American, playing on American Independence Day.
00:38:05Engles now.
00:38:07For support.
00:38:13Trusty heads it down to the Belgian.
00:38:24On up.
00:38:28Don't worry.
00:38:33Reach the midway point.
00:38:36The first half Celtic.
00:38:38One goal to the good, thanks to that Johnny Kenny strike.
00:38:43Looking the favourites to get a second.
00:38:45Queen's Park have really been limited to just one shot on Ross Doohan's goal.
00:38:49It was easily saved by the Celtic goalkeeper.
00:38:51It's been all Celtic.
00:38:58Robbie Bonavent.
00:39:02As you can see it's like a training session for the way Queen's Park are shuffling across.
00:39:05They've worked really hard on the defensive side of it.
00:39:07It's making Celtic work exceptionally hard to move the ball quickly.
00:39:12Listen, Brendan will be pleased at it because the boys are trying to do that.
00:39:15I would still say they should stay a little bit wider.
00:39:17Because any inside midfield player can't get out and press the ball for Queen's Park.
00:39:21But it's a fantastic training session for them in the respect of that.
00:39:25Because I'm sure he works on this day in day out.
00:39:27Because he's used to nominating the ball all the time.
00:39:29So it's just a matter of how are we going to create chances?
00:39:31Where are we going to get the chances?
00:39:33Are we going to move it quick enough to break them?
00:39:35That's what they're talking about, the young boys learning this.
00:39:41And of course it's a system the young boys play at the B team anyway, so...
00:39:45It's dictated from the top down.
00:39:49If you ever watch Stephen McManus' side, they do play a very similar system to what these players have been asked to do tonight.
00:39:59Here's Alan McGregor controlling things in the middle of the park.
00:40:05And Celtic swung in there.
00:40:07Defined defeat of Johnny Kenny, but out comes Callum Ferry.
00:40:12Gather up the ball for Queen's Park.
00:40:19Queen's Park provided one of the highlights, of course, of the season last year.
00:40:23Knocking Rangers out the Scottish Cup at Ibrox.
00:40:25What a result that was.
00:40:28Yes, it was.
00:40:30Yes, it was.
00:40:32Not that you weren't celebrating Peter, because you're always saying it's only Celtic results that you're concerned about.
00:40:37Somebody told me about it.
00:40:39Go, go here now!
00:40:47Oh, but they're a team, you don't know how far they've went, you know.
00:40:50My boy was there for a few years in the promotions both seasons, which was great.
00:40:53And it was really well run with Wally and all laying there.
00:40:56So it's interesting what step they're going to take now with Wally taking out after this season.
00:41:02So it'll be interesting if they want to keep progressing.
00:41:04How far do they want to go?
00:41:06Again Mitchell frame.
00:41:11Cross, the corner.
00:41:16Didn't direct the header.
00:41:18Goalwards, but Celtic trying to press and win the ball back.
00:41:22They seem to have done, they've won the throw.
00:41:25Gosh, Fowler back there, just trying to get involved in the action, I think.
00:41:28Space here for Montgomery.
00:41:38Frame to his left.
00:41:39Montgomery goes ahead, frame cuts inside.
00:41:41Edge of the area, McCown.
00:41:43Montgomery again, seeing a lot of the ball this first half.
00:41:48Comes from Engels, away, out for the Celtic throw.
00:41:57That's what you like about Kenny, he's always in that area between the sticks.
00:42:00Knowing that if there's any mistakes or any balls coming in the box, he's going to get a chance.
00:42:04He's just got to be that wee bit brighter, make sure the defender doesn't get there before him.
00:42:09His first touch there from Arnett Engels.
00:42:14Second chance at the ball there from Frame.
00:42:17Montgomery, back to it, trusty.
00:42:20Celtic moving the ball around quickly.
00:42:23Engels.
00:42:25Frame trying to play the 1-2 with the Belgian.
00:42:33Again, against Celtic.
00:42:36What they're working on, obviously, the 1-2s and that's the best way to break someone who's trying to pressure the amount of bodies they have in the middle of the pitch.
00:42:45So by having midfield runners like Arnett Engels playing first touch, Luke McCown.
00:42:49That's what the young boys have got to be aware of, knowing that they can't go to sleep or be on their heels because they've got to be ready for that.
00:42:54Because that's the difference when you step up, it's the pace of the game.
00:42:57The game doesn't really change, but the pace of it does.
00:42:59Alan Ferry goes long.
00:43:08Stay back there, across goes Fowler.
00:43:10A little bit of a lazy challenge there from the Queen's Park forward, quick re-kick taken by Trusty.
00:43:15McGregor slightly loose from the Celtic captain, but he's there to gather the loose ball that resulted.
00:43:24Go Josh!
00:43:30Montgomery now.
00:43:32McEwen, McEwen, Donovan, this is good play from Celtic now, some real width here from Jude Bonner.
00:43:45Twists and turns but runs into too many defenders, keeps possession though, back to Donovan.
00:43:50And now Murray, the Trusty.
00:43:52The Celtic, back central way.
00:43:54Jamie top!
00:43:59Close to 30 minutes gone.
00:44:01The City Stadium in Glasgow, right next to Hampden Park.
00:44:05Greens Park 0, Celtic 1.
00:44:07Cross into an area that no Celtic player standing in.
00:44:24I think it's a great idea, because Queen's Park now you can hear the manager shouting at them, saying get out to the ball.
00:44:30You can't, because Celtic are working them so much in the middle of the pitch, their legs can't get them out there.
00:44:35And that's why I say about keeping the width, because you'll be able to get more crosses in the box.
00:44:41A little touch there from Feulton, but a chance nonetheless.
00:44:45A bit of a cross in there from...
00:44:49Honour.
00:44:53Celtic still keeping the pressure on the Queen's Park final third.
00:44:56First eight.
00:45:02First eight.
00:45:06Aim.
00:45:16Bengals wins the free kick, quickly back up to his feet.
00:45:19This is what you'd be looking for, Engels to be up right on top of the goalkeeper.
00:45:30You'd be looking for trusting that he'd get that first touch.
00:45:34More than capable of his quality.
00:45:38You forget that early Engels is similar ages to the likes of, you know, Dane Murray and Adam Montgomery and guys like that.
00:45:43Absolutely young man himself, record Celtic signing.
00:45:50He's over this ball now.
00:45:5251 minutes gone.
00:45:55Celtic looking for a second goal.
00:45:57F***ing massive!
00:46:02And it's work from the training ground, is it?
00:46:04Driven across and beaten away.
00:46:07Kicked upfield.
00:46:09Jamie Bradley.
00:46:10A huge season ahead for Celtic.
00:46:26Of course, slightly different to last season.
00:46:29Celtic back again, slightly different in that Celtic will have to navigate through a Champions League playoff round to get into the league phase.
00:46:39So, huge home and away tie.
00:46:43We don't yet know who it's against, but Celtic will be seeded in that tie.
00:46:47A massive game coming at the early stages, middle of August.
00:46:50Celtic season.
00:46:51Yes.
00:46:53Very important.
00:46:54Well, it's a good first time ball, but no one in there.
00:46:56Out for the throw-in in the far side, sorry Peter.
00:46:58No, it's a great ball in.
00:47:00No, you're right, that's why these games are so important.
00:47:03The international boys obviously come back, maybe just today I think it was.
00:47:06Yeah, it was.
00:47:07It's important now that they start to go up to speed.
00:47:10If they've got a few games on top of each other, that will help towards that.
00:47:15But having to navigate that, for me I think it's ridiculous.
00:47:19I think Celtic should be automatic.
00:47:21Champions in any of the countries.
00:47:22How you can have other teams as not champions automatically, and I find it quite incredible.
00:47:27So, Celtic should automatically, but they have to navigate it now.
00:47:29Now that's the rule that they're playing with.
00:47:31That's why these games are so important.
00:47:33One, you get through without any injuries.
00:47:35And then I'm sure Brenda will be looking to bring other boys in, as well as other boys coming back also.
00:47:39Yeah, we have cameras at Celtic's training ground at Lennox Town today, so we have got first footage of Benjamin Negrun on his first day as a Celtic player.
00:47:51Kieran Tierney back, of course, at Lennox Town.
00:47:53It was his first day of pre-season.
00:47:56This is footage that you can see on Celtic TV tomorrow.
00:47:59And then Rodgers tries to build a squad that's going to succeed on many different levels, both domestic and in Europe.
00:48:15Celtic coming forward.
00:48:16Now Johnny Kenny outside the box, trying to provide a low cross in there towards Mitchell Frame, but here's MacGregor.
00:48:24What's the Montgomery?
00:48:27Now Engels.
00:48:34Justy.
00:48:36Moves that for Murray.
00:48:37He fancies that one from outside the area, why not?
00:48:56Yeah.
00:48:57Plenty space.
00:48:58There's a go, there's a bit of a laugh to himself.
00:49:01Does Dane Murray?
00:49:02At least he says a typical centre half shot after Carter Vickers' goal last season.
00:49:07Who knows, eh?
00:49:11They made good contact, but perhaps more suitable to Murrayfield rather than Hamden.
00:49:17Oh, I play my words there.
00:49:20Murrayfield.
00:49:22Unintentional, but I'll take it.
00:49:33Once again, apologies for any bad language that's been picked up on our microphones.
00:49:37It is a very tight stadium, so very close to the working area of the dugout.
00:49:44Here is from Cole Buck, but Vince Park just can't get on the ball.
00:49:56Celtic are extremely dominant.
00:49:59The only surprise has been that only managed one goal.
00:50:03I think that's the only thing that Brendan will look at is when you think the final third,
00:50:09where you have a lot of domination in the ball.
00:50:11I think we have to be more ruthless, whether it's that final pass.
00:50:14I think we should cross the ball more.
00:50:16Me, personally.
00:50:17I think sometimes we move that extra pass, pull it back.
00:50:21Oh, there's a cross from Good Bonner.
00:50:24For me, it's still the most dangerous ball in football.
00:50:26There's a cross ball coming in, because defenders are facing their own goal.
00:50:29You're getting bodies coming in.
00:50:31There's nothing worse as a strike if you keep making a run,
00:50:33and the ball keeps getting knocked back to the midfield players.
00:50:40On up.
00:50:46In Murray.
00:50:48Trusty.
00:50:53Montgomery and Frame combining.
00:50:55Should be another Celtic corner.
00:50:57It is.
00:50:58Young Frame's done well.
00:51:00He's gone at the back post when they've been attacking down the right-hand side,
00:51:02which Brendan will be looking for.
00:51:04He's put his crosses in the box.
00:51:06You know, and he showed good energy.
00:51:08To get back and help defensively against the ball when he's had to.
00:51:11He can be pleased with his first period in the game.
00:51:14The oldest player on the Celtic bench is Kyle Ure at 23.
00:51:18The youngest player on the Celtic bench is Connor Daly at just 16.
00:51:23I'm sure we'll see a few of the young stars in the second half as Arne Engles gets ready to deliver another in-swing corner.
00:51:33A high-dipping one.
00:51:37Look at the head.
00:51:40Johnny Kenny, but...
00:51:42Hard when it's coming down with no real pace on it.
00:51:45I think he just couldn't get a turn on his head.
00:51:47It's actually happening as he's trying to flick it,
00:51:49and it's actually happening in the through of the head, you know.
00:51:51You can see the wind just taking the ball away.
00:51:53Yeah, exactly.
00:51:54He gets there first,
00:51:55but he's tried to just glance it, but he's just got too much on it.
00:51:59But yet again,
00:52:00as I said,
00:52:01he wants to touch that ball in the box.
00:52:03All good figures want to do.
00:52:10Look at him, look at him.
00:52:11Look at him, look at him.
00:52:12Look at him, look at him.
00:52:13Up, up, up.
00:52:14Let's keep this high.
00:52:17Shall we?
00:52:18Five minutes.
00:52:19Structure.
00:52:20What's the inside out?
00:52:24Murray.
00:52:26Is it through the middle?
00:52:27McCowan.
00:52:28Donovan.
00:52:29Murray again.
00:52:39Lighting cross.
00:52:41Headed away by Fox.
00:52:43I thought it was an excellent ball,
00:52:44just never had enough bodies in the box.
00:52:46It was a good defender by Fox because he plays himself in the right position.
00:52:50Yet again I thought it was a terrific ball.
00:52:52Well done!
00:52:53McEwen
00:53:06McEwen
00:53:10Mitchell frame, cross ball
00:53:12in for Celtic bodies there, McEwen feels he won the
00:53:16all there in square off Connolly
00:53:18re-kick awarded to Queen's Park
00:53:23yeah he hadn't experienced it currently but it's good to see that the ball goes forward
00:53:27it's three Celtic players around it
00:53:34Hilton
00:53:36foul up
00:53:38runs in to Murray
00:53:42felt like a sore one
00:53:49Murray
00:53:51held the full force of that
00:53:53to be fair to both of them I think
00:53:55both of them genuinely made an attempt for the ball you know
00:53:57and I just think it sounds worse than actually it was
00:53:59I think he's actually hooked the bottom of his foot once he's kicked through the ball
00:54:02but listen, you'd be disappointed if you're a manager and your two players don't go for it you know
00:54:07modern day football boots don't give you much protection
00:54:10modern day football players are through you guys
00:54:12that as well
00:54:14that as well
00:54:20and they have metatarsal injuries in your day Peter
00:54:23what's that?
00:54:24could never cut in the back of your socks either
00:54:34yeah that's another strange one
00:54:38modern day footballer
00:54:42usually Sunday stud mats that cut your socks
00:54:44there's McGregor
00:54:54the final five minutes of the first half
00:54:57it's been a great exercise for Celtic I'm sure the manager's been really happy with the
00:55:02first 45 minutes of pre-season Celtic have played the ball around with purpose
00:55:09with pace
00:55:11got a goal
00:55:12sure the manager would have preferred to get one or two more
00:55:14such has been the dominance of their possession
00:55:22Engels
00:55:23Wayne Kenny through the middle
00:55:26all cut out
00:55:27free kick
00:55:29Queen's Park again
00:55:30it's that man Connolly
00:55:32yeah I think
00:55:33a point I'm trying to make is
00:55:34all layered bodies are in there
00:55:36I think
00:55:37yes it's got to be near enough the perfect ball to go through there
00:55:39that's why I think the wide area is still the best pass
00:55:42because once they start stretching then you will get that
00:55:44if you keep continue to keep the ball narrow in the pitch
00:55:47and then try to go for that pass
00:55:48it suits Queen's Park with the amount of bodies they have there
00:55:51so still use the wind
00:55:53there's been a couple of great balls in the box
00:55:55and they seem to be the ones that have caused the most problems
00:56:02get in
00:56:04keep
00:56:05keep
00:56:06keep
00:56:07keep
00:56:08keep
00:56:09keep

00:56:13keep
00:56:14keep
00:56:15keep
00:56:16keep
00:56:17keep
00:56:18keep
00:56:19keep
00:56:20My apologies to Kyle Ure for giving him an extra four years, he is 19, he's not 23.
00:56:28Mistaken my stats, slap of the wrist for me.
00:56:41Another corner for Erna Engels.
00:56:44Living cross this time again.
00:56:51Receiver has to generate all the pace on that one, so...
00:56:56The goalkeeper from there.
00:57:00Just wee simple things like that, I hear Brendan there, I'm thinking, you still use the conditions, use your experience, for me Erna Engels has got to work that in.
00:57:07You know, you're right on half time, the wind's blowing, it's tricky for a goalkeeper as we always used to say.
00:57:13You don't need to play it short then, deliver it!
00:57:16You know, because that's an opportunity to put a cross in without being any pressure on you.
00:57:21So there's these small details, which you need to use throughout the season, I think you try and put them in practice during these games.
00:57:27Badly.
00:57:43Green spot for really the first time in the match of Erna Engels linked a few passes together.
00:57:49And out-worked and out-passed by Celtic so far in this match.
00:57:58And from Fieldstone, positioning more from Dane Murray.
00:58:04He's giving a free kick.
00:58:14Late call by the referee.
00:58:16Yep, saw a chance right in the closing stages of this first half for Queen's Park.
00:58:20To provide a threat on Ross Doohan's goal.
00:58:28I think this is something that Brendan will be looking at as well, because I think a few times last year when it came to important times where, like I said, a lot of teams do long throws and whatever.
00:58:36Teams were getting opportunities from them.
00:58:38I'm sure it's something they'll be looking at as well, so these young boys should be taking this, worrying that she was indetermined not to concede a goal.
00:58:44Voting time in the game.
00:58:48Celtic defending on the 6-yard line here.
00:58:53Well, was it worth a shot from there? Didn't really trouble Ross doing.
00:58:59Trench on!
00:59:05And now the Longridge having to chase back because Celtic are up into the Queen's Park half.
00:59:09Was that a bit of a wasted effort?
00:59:11Yeah, it's only worth it if you hit the target.
00:59:13I think you've got to make the goalkeeper work there if you're going to do that.
00:59:16Because then you've got to think, if he drops it, there's players round about it.
00:59:19But make sure you hit the target as a manager, that's what you'd always say to him.
00:59:22Don't mind a player having a goal at goal, but make sure you hit that target.
00:59:29I think you've got to do it!
00:59:36Frame out to Montgomery.
00:59:44The referee blows for the end of the first half.
00:59:48A good first 45-minute workout for these Celtic players for the first time this season, having just been back from their summer holidays a week ago.
00:59:56Great effort from the boys in that first half.
01:00:01There will be a number of changes in the second 45.
01:00:05Celtic with the lead at half-time thanks to that Johnny Kenny goal.
01:00:10It's been a busy week for Brendan Rodgers and the boys as they came back to Lennox Town last week.
01:00:16And that means it's been a busy week for Celtic TV as well.
01:00:19Here's a bit of a round up as to what we've been up to since the team came back.
