00:00Every day has been a deadly day in Gaza.
00:03You could say that for a long time, since Israel walked away from the ceasefire in March.
00:10But it is remarkable and tragic that since Israel established the Israeli army,
00:17however we're going to call it, established this entity called the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation,
00:23which is staffed principally by Americans and yet guarded by Israeli army soldiers,
00:28we have seen this daily toll grow and grow.
00:34Now, of the 100 or so who you mentioned killed, the figure I have in front of me is at least 70 from UN sources.
00:43But either way, we are talking about a bloodbath.
00:46And while not all of these individuals are killed during the time that they're trying to get aid,
00:53while they're trying to exceed food, we basically are seeing two, you know,
00:59principal manners in which Gazans are dying from Israeli arms in recent weeks.
01:06One is, incredibly enough, these humanitarian aid hubs, which Israel said a few weeks ago it would reform,
01:13it would change access to.
01:14That has not happened.
01:15The other one is Israel is still pinpointing the few remaining Hamas top commanders.
01:26Now, I'm saying this hesitatingly because Israel really has decapitated Hamas.
01:31None of the men who were Hamas's top military leaders or even political functionaries
01:37at the time of October 7, 2023, and the attack on Israel, none of them are still alive.
01:44Israel is now pinpointing the lower ranks of Hamas, you know, armed militiamen.
01:51And it appears more and more that with each targeted killing of one of these terrorists,
01:59dozens of civilians are dying alongside them.
02:02And we saw this at the cafe on the coast of Gaza now almost a week ago.
02:08We've seen it since.
02:10And these two army intentions appear to be the way most of these Gazans are being killed daily.
02:17Yeah, and that's raising more pressure on Israel, more criticism on Israel.
02:22And yet those ceasefire talks, there hasn't been any breakthrough.
02:25No, I don't know what the opposite of breakthrough is, perhaps stalemate.
02:34That's where we're at.
02:35And I want to tell you about a very strong indicator of what's going on.
02:41The Israeli prime minister, Netanyahu, returned from a visit to Washington,
02:47in which he and Donald Trump were expected to announce a ceasefire deal.
02:51In fact, Trump had said they would announce a ceasefire deal before he returned.
02:57American officials promised the families of Israeli hostages still being held in Gaza
03:02that there would be an announcement before Netanyahu left D.C.
03:06And that did not happen.
03:09The prime minister returned empty-handed.
03:11The Palestinians accused him of having that as his aim,
03:15of having gone to Washington just to waste time in these negotiations and talks.
03:20And last night, Saturday night, was with his two most extremist ministers,
03:32the finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, the minister for national security, Itamar Ben-Gvir.
03:39These are the two men threatening to walk out on his coalition and possibly topple his government
03:44if he does sign any ceasefire.
03:46And apparently, from what we can tell, the prime minister of Israel is right now devoting his time
03:54to trying to shore up this coalition to find a way to survive,
03:59at least until the parliamentary summer recess, which starts in about two weeks.
04:05And that may be, unfortunately, pushing off the more substantive talks on a ceasefire.
04:11Noga, thank you very much.
