00:04:24Thought I'd just take you out.
00:04:27You ever do this to me again, I'm gonna let you go.
00:04:32He's back.
00:04:34Let's get him out of here.
00:04:36Come on.
00:04:39Come on.
00:04:40Come on.
00:04:43Dr. Burgess, to the ER, Dr. Burgess, please report to the ER.
00:04:47Keep your eyes on the phone.
00:04:49Keep your eyes closed.
00:04:50The business is you.
00:04:52Oh, shit.
00:04:58Did you put him up to this?
00:04:59No.
00:05:01I resent the implication that I would.
00:05:04I'll be right back.
00:05:06Dan.
00:05:13I want you to get the best private room possible for Dr. Robinson.
00:05:15Of course.
00:05:16I'll bring him up personally as soon as he's stable.
00:05:23What?
00:05:35He can see it.
00:05:46I know.
00:06:01Thank you!
00:06:02Come on.
00:06:24Hey!
00:06:29Yes, Dr. Robinson just left.
00:06:31What?
00:06:32Can you track him?
00:06:34I think so.
00:06:35All right.
00:06:38We've got troubles.
00:06:50Why did you call the police?
00:06:51I wanted to call the police. I had to call the police.
00:06:53You didn't have to call the police.
00:06:58Have you tracked him yet?
00:07:00No, not yet.
00:07:02Can you patch me through to him on this?
00:07:28Listen, buddy, I know you're experiencing hallucinations from the morphine.
00:07:31I want you to pull the ambulance over.
00:07:33And I want you to wait right there for me to get to you.
00:07:36You understand?
00:07:38Marissa and I will come and get you.

00:08:25Oh, my God.
00:08:55Got him, Dr. Burke.
00:09:25Who's there?
00:09:46Can I help you?
00:09:47They're after me.
00:09:51Who's after you? Are you running from the police?
00:09:54No. There's this thing. I brought it back. It keeps chasing me.
00:10:00Keeps chasing you? What keeps chasing you?
00:10:03This thing from hell.
00:10:07It's you.
00:10:08Hey, calm down.
00:10:13Look at me. Look at me. Have you been drinking?
00:10:15No!
00:10:16Are you doing drugs?
00:10:18No! You don't understand!
00:10:21We've got to get you to a hospital.
00:10:24I just came from a hospital.
00:10:26There's nothing there they can do for me.
00:10:28Believe me, I'm a doctor.
00:10:29I can't help you unless you tell me what's going on.
00:10:33Now, what's going on here?
00:10:34Okay.
00:10:48You just got to listen to me.
00:10:50It may not make sense.
00:10:53I don't even know when it started.
00:10:54But I fell into the steep pit, and I didn't even know it.
00:11:01Oh, this is beautiful rock that, uh...
00:11:02It all started about a month ago.
00:11:04I was reaching a breaking point, and I didn't even know it.
00:11:08I was 29 years old, had achieved the career I'd always wanted,
00:11:12but it wasn't enough.
00:11:15I had run through all of the antidepressants.
00:11:19I went to therapy until I realized I knew ten times more than my therapist.
00:11:24I knew I was running, and running scared.
00:11:28I kept a smile on so nobody would know how empty I was inside.
00:11:32Hey, you're a smile.
00:11:33Oh, hi. Fine.
00:11:35Will do.
00:11:36My daughter's on a snake, but I need a doctor.
00:11:38I need her now!
00:11:39Calm down. Let's go.
00:11:44Dr. Robertson, please report to the ER.
00:11:46Dr. Robertson, to the ER.
00:11:49She was just running around playing by the pod.
00:11:51Lauren, age 11, she's got a snake bite.
00:11:53BP-122 of her siblings.
00:11:54Lauren, hi.
00:11:55Hello.
00:11:56Hi.
00:11:57Where were you bitten?
00:11:59Here?
00:12:00What happened?
00:12:02We were down at the pond.
00:12:03It was a party.
00:12:04We were having a picnic.
00:12:05It's her birthday.
00:12:06And she was running around, you know, having a good time, playing.
00:12:10And she went down to the pond, and she rolled over a rock or a log or something like that.
00:12:14She looked down to see what was in there, and the snake bit her.
00:12:18Do you remember what the color was?
00:12:19Red, black, and yellow.
00:12:20Oh, please, can you help me?
00:12:26Can you please help me?
00:12:27My husband just brought my daughter in here.
00:12:28She has a snake bite wound.
00:12:30Lauren Garrison?
00:12:30Yes, right this way.
00:12:35Red, black, and yellow.
00:12:36Mm-hmm.
00:12:37You sure?
00:12:38Mm-hmm.
00:12:38Okay.
00:12:39My guess is that you were bitten by a kingsnake, not a coral snake.
00:12:44Are you sure?
00:12:45Well, if you had been bitten by a coral snake, you wouldn't be sitting here right now.
00:12:49Okay.
00:12:50Okay.
00:12:51Mm-hmm.
00:12:51Okay, listen, I'm going to send a nurse in here.
00:12:53She's going to run some more tests, fill out some paperwork, and you'll be out of here
00:12:57in a jiffy.
00:12:58Okay.
00:12:59Okay?
00:13:00All right.
00:13:00You okay?
00:13:01I'm fine.
00:13:02I'm fine.
00:13:02Just winded.
00:13:03It's all right.
00:13:04All right.
00:13:04See?
00:13:08I told you.
00:13:09No problem.
00:13:11No problem.
00:13:12Dad?
00:13:15Daddy!
00:13:17Dad!
00:13:17Somebody help my dad!
00:13:19Somebody help my dad!
00:13:20Somebody help me!
00:13:21Hence, Dad!
00:13:23Dad.
00:13:25No!
00:13:26No!
00:13:26No, Dad!
00:13:27No!
00:13:28No!
00:13:29That's my heart!
00:13:29Dad!
00:13:30What's wrong?
00:13:30No!
00:13:31Clear the room!
00:13:32Dad!
00:13:32No!
00:13:33Dad!
00:13:34There's some help here, people!
00:13:38Okay, let's get him on the table.
00:13:40I was in the business of saving lives.
00:13:42Clear!
00:13:43But I didn't even know how to save my own.
00:13:45Welcome back, cowboy.
00:13:55Doctor, is it going to be okay?
00:13:59Please, sit down.
00:14:00Dr. Burke, our resident cardiologist, is running some tests.
00:14:09The tests will give us an indication of how much damage there actually is.
00:14:14Doctor, please, just do whatever it is you can.
00:14:17He is the best husband, the best father, anybody could ask for.
00:14:31I don't know how I could live without him.
00:14:33I understand.
00:14:34Listen, right now he needs to get as much rest as possible.
00:14:38You do, too.
00:14:42I want you to understand that we are doing the best job that we possibly can do.
00:14:49I want you to understand that we're doing the best job.
00:14:58I want you to understand it.
00:15:00I don't know.
00:15:01But everybody can do it.
00:15:02You want me to understand?
00:15:04You're asking me to understand what you want.
00:15:05You just want me to understand.
00:15:06I don't know.
00:15:07I want you to understand.
00:15:08How's he doing, doctor?
00:15:23I'm not sure, Reverend.
00:15:25Do you mind if I stand here and pray for him a bit?
00:15:30Not at all.
00:15:36Do you mind if I ask what you're praying for?
00:15:38I wanted to pray for his salvation.
00:15:42Well, he's a pretty nice guy.
00:15:45You might be better off praying for his arterial blockage.
00:15:49I will.
00:15:51But if everything you're doing for him doesn't help,
00:15:56he's going to need to know where he's going to spend eternity.
00:15:59Each of us is going to stand before God.
00:16:02We'll all have to give account of what we've done in our lives.
00:16:05And it will all come down to this one verse.
00:16:07For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
00:16:12that whoever believes in him will not perish, but have eternal life.
00:16:18Otherwise, God's going to send us straight to hell, right?
00:16:21Have you got a moment?
00:16:24Can I show you something?
00:16:27It says here in Revelation.
00:16:28I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God.
00:16:36And the books were opened.
00:16:37And another book was opened, which was the book of life.
00:16:41And whoever's name was not found written in the book of life
00:16:44was cast into the lake of fire.
00:16:46If this is an all-loving and all-merciful God,
00:16:51then why would he create a hell?
00:16:55Why would anyone reject the love and mercy of God?
00:16:58You see, by rejecting the forgiveness and love of Jesus,
00:17:03one chooses to die in his sins and go to hell.
00:17:07One chooses.
00:17:09Dox, be not proud.
00:17:21Dox, be not proud.
00:17:24Dox, be not proud.
00:17:29What's he trying to say?
00:17:31Dox, be not proud.
00:17:33He's delirious.
00:17:35You may want to come back later.
00:17:37Sure.
00:17:38It was nice talking with you, doctor.
00:17:41See you around, Reverend.
00:17:44But it wasn't the Reverend's attitude that bothered me.
00:17:47It was his beliefs that made my insides turn.
00:17:51I mean, how could this guy be so arrogant to think
00:17:55that he knew that a loving God would judge another man,
00:17:59especially a man who loved his family so much?
00:18:01He's merely going by what the Bible says.
00:18:04Yeah, but I just couldn't believe that a loving God
00:18:06would punish anyone for all eternity.
00:18:09It was a horrible idea, one that had to be destroyed.
00:18:15Where am I?
00:18:17You're in CCU.
00:18:19You've had a massive heart attack.
00:18:22I was dead.
00:18:24Listen, I want you to know that we're doing as much as we can
00:18:28to get you back on your feet.
00:18:29All right, you need to get well.
00:18:33Your wife and family, they need you.
00:18:37It's all right.
00:18:39It's all right.
00:18:41No.
00:18:42No.
00:18:45You don't understand.
00:18:50No.
00:18:51I didn't want to come back.
00:18:54What do you mean you didn't want to come back?
00:18:57It's like I was in heaven.
00:19:01It's no pain.
00:19:04No fear.
00:19:06At first, I felt like a truck hit me.
00:19:10And it parked on my chest.
00:19:12And then all, all the pain slipped away.
00:19:23And I floated over my body with such peace and love.
00:19:29And as I reached the top of the ceiling, I saw you and everybody gathered around me.
00:19:41Before I knew it, I saw myself shooting through this tunnel.
00:19:47I saw myself going through the tunnel and I looked down and I guess it was on the roof
00:20:04of the hospital here I saw the words, ducks be not proud.
00:20:10Anyway, I wanted to keep going on towards the light, beautiful light.
00:20:23I didn't want to come back.
00:20:27Suddenly there was a jolt.
00:20:29I came back into my body.
00:20:35Listen, I just need you to get some sleep.
00:20:40Dr. Marissa Holloway is going to be here to talk to you about your experience.
00:20:46Okay.
00:21:02What have we got here?
00:21:03Another member of the Couch Potato Club?
00:21:05Tad Garrison.
00:21:07Father of two.
00:21:08Architect.
00:21:10Well, his blockage looks like the freeway at rush hour.
00:21:13His lifestyle isn't hard to imagine.
00:21:16Eggs and legs all week.
00:21:17Beers and steers on the weekend.
00:21:19What are his chances?
00:21:22His echocardiogram shows an injection factor of five percent.
00:21:26He needs a new heart.
00:21:28I called the transplant center and they said that with his rare blood type and the severity
00:21:32of the congestive heart failure, I don't give him much hope.
00:21:36Bottom line?
00:21:37I'm surprised he walked in.
00:21:38I'm surprised he walked in.
00:21:38I'm surprised he walked in.
00:21:39In fact, he walked in.
00:21:40I don't know.
00:22:10You've reached the office of Dr. Marissa Holloway.
00:22:33Please leave a message.
00:22:35Marissa, it's Eric.
00:22:37I've got a patient I think fits your research criteria.
00:22:40His name is Tad Garrison.
00:22:42He's in ICU Bay 6.
00:22:45And listen, I'd make it a point to talk to him as soon as possible.
00:22:50He may not be with us much longer.
00:22:52No, you look fine.
00:22:57I just need you to answer a couple of questions.
00:23:02Well, I guess we must have been pulling an 18-hour emergency shift that day.
00:23:08We were trying to restore power to, I guess it was Section 14 of the city.
00:23:12And me and my partner, we were both exhausted, but we just kept on working anyway.
00:23:19You know, it's funny.
00:23:20We both thought we needed the overtime.
00:23:23Anyway, it was raining and we went down there and I accidentally let a live wire hit an ungrounded area near my feet.
00:23:32Well, I felt such a huge electrical shock was straight through my body.
00:23:39And after that, everything was black.
00:23:41I opened my eyes and I could swear I could see my body down there.
00:23:47I must have been floating above it.
00:23:53Eric.
00:23:58Yes?
00:23:59This is the money you loaned me four years ago.
00:24:04With interest.
00:24:13You know, you wouldn't be giving me this if you didn't want something else.
00:24:16What do you want?
00:24:18Look, I've been sober for the last six months.
00:24:23Eric, my life has changed.
00:24:29I've been on a mission for three months now, telling everyone I can about how I owe it all to Jesus Christ.
00:24:37And I finally got up enough courage to come and see you.
00:24:41And?
00:24:43And I was hoping it would be a start.
00:24:47Look, I just left a man who really loves his family.
00:24:51And his heart's going to give out in a week.
00:24:54And you, you come walking in here.
00:24:56You're a worthless piece of human garbage.
00:24:58You betray your own family for a bottle.
00:25:05I wish you were dead.
00:25:09You want to show me where God is and all that?
00:25:11Mother?
00:25:20Mother?
00:25:21In here, Eric.
00:25:36Hi, honey.
00:25:37Hi.
00:25:37How you doing?
00:25:38I just made you some nice hot tea.
00:25:40Great, thank you.
00:25:44How you doing?
00:25:46You never guess who I ran into tonight.
00:25:50Your father.
00:25:52How'd you know?
00:25:54Because he was here a couple of weeks ago asking about you, and he said he needed to see you.
00:25:59And you told him where I was?
00:26:01Yes, I did.
00:26:03How can you even talk to him after what he did to you, after what he did to us?
00:26:07Well, he's different now. He's... he's become a born-again Christian.
00:26:12Oh, great!
00:26:14So he told you he was a Christian?
00:26:16Talked about Jesus, interjected a couple of amens, and you believed him?
00:26:20Oh, come on, Mother! You, of all people, should know what a Class A manipulator he is.
00:26:26He knows you're a Christian, he's just using that to push your buttons.
00:26:29I know when your father is blowing smoke, okay?
00:26:32This was different.
00:26:34Oh, because he's carrying a Bible. I'm supposed to ignore all the hell he put us through?
00:26:41Do you think that this is easy for me?
00:26:44Do you think that I can just turn my back and forget everything that he's ever done to me?
00:26:48He left me to raise you by myself. He put me into personal bankruptcy.
00:26:52If I hadn't met your stepfather, I would still be struggling.
00:26:56I had to stop and remind myself every five minutes that God has forgiven him.
00:27:11And I need to find the grace to forgive him, too.
00:27:21I didn't understand the faith that compelled my mother to forgive.
00:27:25How could God ask someone to give up the anger without some form of justice?
00:27:30It seems so unfair.
00:27:38Mr. Garrison?
00:27:42Hi.
00:27:43My name's Marissa Holloway. I'm doing research here at the hospital.
00:27:47What kind of research?
00:27:48I'm studying near-death experiences.
00:27:52I understand you had one yesterday.
00:27:55Yeah.
00:27:57What's the camera for?
00:27:59I tape my interviews.
00:28:01Can I ask you a few questions?
00:28:03I'm really not feeling well right now.
00:28:06Mr. Garrison?
00:28:07I believe that your experience can help a lot of people face the next life.
00:28:16I promise I won't take too much time.
00:28:18I'm really not feeling very well right now.
00:28:21Maybe later.
00:28:24I'll come back later.
00:28:25Lisa, I'm sorry.
00:28:29I'm sorry.
00:28:30It's okay.
00:28:38What about a transplant?
00:28:41We have really good medical insurance and we have some savings.
00:28:46It's not a question of money.
00:28:48It's a question of time.
00:28:50There's a long waiting list of patients in front of your husband.
00:28:53I'm sorry.
00:28:55He won't survive the wait.
00:29:03What am I going to do?
00:29:04What am I supposed to tell my daughter?
00:29:10Mrs. Garrison?
00:29:13This is Dr. Holloway.
00:29:15She specializes in helping families to come to terms with grief.
00:29:21I...I...
00:29:34It's gonna be okay.
00:29:406 a.m.
00:29:416 a.m.?
00:29:426 a.m.
00:29:43Huh.
00:29:44What were they selling?
00:29:45Lofi's.
00:29:46Excuse me?
00:29:47Some kind of hair cutting system.
00:29:48Oh, everybody needs one of those.
00:29:49I bought one.
00:29:51Fooling his money.
00:29:53Looks like the fear monger's on the loose again.
00:29:55Doctors aren't really certain how serious the head injuries are.
00:29:59Because of the injuries he may not regain consciousness.
00:30:03As long as it keeps my patients happy, I'm happy.
00:30:06Hey, cheer up.
00:30:07It's a beautiful day.
00:30:08None of my patients died.
00:30:10Another 3,500 in the bank.
00:30:12And you're buying lunch.
00:30:14You know, Carl, some people might find you obscene.
00:30:17As long as you're not one of them.
00:30:19Oh, really?
00:30:21Hey, I know something that'll cheer up even your usually sour disposition.
00:30:26Oh?
00:30:27Really?
00:30:28What?
00:30:29Beautiful.
00:30:30The talented.
00:30:31Dr. Marissa Holloway.
00:30:34Michael Crawford, 3-4-0.
00:30:36Michael Crawford, please call 3-4-0.
00:30:38Wow.
00:30:40You're having lunch by yourself, buddy.
00:30:42Marissa!
00:30:45Hi, Eric.
00:30:46Thanks for the referral.
00:30:48Was it good enough for lunch?
00:30:50Oh, I gotta get back to work.
00:30:55It was good enough for dinner.
00:31:00Hey, Carl, wait up.
00:31:05See you tonight.
00:31:20Just a minute!
00:31:27Wait, please.
00:31:30Don't shut the door on my face.
00:31:32Then you may want to stand back a couple of feet.
00:31:35Eric, wait.
00:31:39Look, this isn't easy for me.
00:31:45I know what I've done to you and your mother.
00:31:48You don't know how hard it is for me to come and face you.
00:31:52What are you doing here?
00:31:54Is it some kind of apology to her?
00:31:58Look, I'm not gonna lend you my car or give you some money.
00:32:02I'm not gonna give you a place to sleep.
00:32:03So is there anything else you need?
00:32:05Your forgiveness?
00:32:08It'll be a cold day in hell before that happens.
00:32:09Sorry.
00:32:10I'm sorry.
00:32:12I'm sorry.
00:32:15What am I doing here?
00:32:17Is it a real deal?
00:32:19I'm sorry.
00:32:22What am I doing here?
00:32:23I'm sorry.
00:32:25I'm sorry.
00:32:30I'm sorry.
00:32:31um well hell doesn't exist at least that's my theory if i could prove the existence of the
00:32:58afterlife place where everybody went to a place of peace and love and joy you mean heaven right
00:33:04imagine what that would do for psychiatry i mean we could treat grief we could take the fear out of
00:33:08dying well don't you think a little fear of dying is a good thing think about it if people were a
00:33:13little bit more afraid of dying then maybe they would stop eating fatty foods or stop smoking or
00:33:19anything else that caused cancer you don't have to deal with my patients i mean they have constant
00:33:25panic attacks because they're afraid of dying they don't want to die they don't know where
00:33:30they're going when they die but have you ever seen a christian die
00:33:35several my grandmother when she died it was the most peaceful most beautiful thing i'd ever seen
00:33:44it was like she was prepared for it it's because of faith since when did you become born again
00:33:50i might not believe in jesus but i do believe in the power of faith it's a lot more effective than a
00:33:59handful of xanax i was taken by the idea immediately if she was right then people like latimer were dead
00:34:07what are all these oh those are drawings of heaven by children i work with
00:34:19they've all had near-death experiences wow
00:34:22yeah
00:34:37pretty intense children no this was drawn by an artist i worked with he had a near-death experience
00:34:52after a drug overdose he claims he saw that creature in hell dreams about it every night
00:34:58i've been working with him for a while i wanted to show you this though
00:35:02um how long ago did this happen
00:35:10well it it was about two years ago but i remember it just as if it happened yesterday
00:35:16well i was i was downtown i was uh i was crossing an intersection and everything just seemed to be fine at first
00:35:24but then i heard these people calling out to me from both sides of the street
00:35:31and it sounded like they were panicking and i heard this car coming toward me but i had no idea how to get out of the way
00:35:39oh my god
00:35:46what happened then
00:35:51it was just the most beautiful experience i can't even describe it i could see
00:35:56i started floating over my body and i could see people running towards me
00:36:00and one of them was a doctor and she started working on me right away
00:36:04so you floated above your body and before i knew what was happening i was in this tunnel of light
00:36:08and then i saw a glimpse of heaven it was just so beautiful even in my mind now i just i can't forget that image
00:36:23it was like nothing i've ever seen before and i just i wanted to run to it
00:36:27i knew that jesus was waiting for me
00:36:30but then i stopped
00:36:32why did you stop
00:36:33there was this incredible creature standing right in front of me
00:36:37it was glorious full of light i knew it had to be an angel
00:36:42darling
00:36:45daughter of the most high i'm sorry
00:36:49now is not your time
00:36:52you must go back
00:36:54why do you think the angel called you a daughter of god
00:36:56because i am one i'm a christian
00:36:59everyone who accepts jesus as their lord and savior becomes a son or a daughter of god
00:37:02and that's what i am
00:37:05then what happened
00:37:08well after the angel spoke to me i just i wanted so desperately to stay there but i knew i couldn't
00:37:14everything went black and and i i couldn't see anymore and and i came back to my body
00:37:30and it was over
00:37:33what do you think
00:37:38you really want to know
00:37:41yeah
00:37:42i think that the accident most likely jarred the visual centers of her brain
00:37:48while old memories of sight fused with her religious expectations of death
00:37:53helped create quite a light show
00:37:56there's one problem with that theory
00:37:59what's that
00:38:00she's been blind since birth
00:38:02yes but you still can't use this type of anecdotal testimony there's no verification
00:38:08totally subjective there's no control
00:38:10i know
00:38:11i know
00:38:12i know
00:38:13that's what my grant committee keeps saying
00:38:17that's what my grant committee keeps saying
00:38:28so then how do you expect to prove anything
00:38:30okay
00:38:31well let's put it this way
00:38:33every good researcher has her little secrets
00:38:37during my near-death experience i discovered marissa's little secret
00:38:45she had placed a sign on the hospital roof to help verify whether someone was truly having an out-of-body experience
00:38:52tad garrison saw the message but i didn't believe him
00:38:56i don't believe him
00:38:57i don't believe him
00:38:58that's why
00:38:59the
00:39:28I always imagined that when I found out about my father's death, it wouldn't matter.
00:39:51But when I heard about it, it hurt me more than I ever thought it would.
00:40:02I thought you hated him.
00:40:05Yeah, I did too.
00:40:09He was the center of my life when I was a kid. We had some great times together.
00:40:19I was so proud of him. I was his buddy.
00:40:24I guess you never really stop loving a parent.
00:40:28So when was the last time you saw your father?
00:40:31Two weeks.
00:40:34What happened? How did you feel?
00:40:40I felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest.
00:40:45I mean, there he was, standing in my doorway.
00:40:50Begging for my forgiveness.
00:40:54I just wanted to reach out and hug him.
00:40:57Instead, I slammed the door in his face.
00:41:00Now he's dead and there's nothing I can do about it.
00:41:04Look, Eric, I don't think you're grieving your father's death.
00:41:07You're grieving a lost relationship.
00:41:09We didn't have a relationship.
00:41:11But you lost the opportunity to have one and that you need to grieve.
00:41:15It's Garrison.
00:41:40I'm just gonna sleep now.
00:41:45Take a little rest.
00:41:48He's struggling.
00:41:51He's holding on for your sake.
00:41:58He wants to go to the light.
00:42:00Tell him it's alright.
00:42:02Yeah.
00:42:03It's painless and peaceful there.
00:42:14Just let go.
00:42:17Just let go, honey.
00:42:18We'll be okay.
00:42:20It's okay, daddy.
00:42:22We'll be okay.
00:42:23I'll take care of mommy for you.
00:42:33Bye.
00:42:55Bye.
00:42:58Bye.
00:43:02Bye.
00:43:03It's time to die.
00:43:05It's time to die.
00:43:07It's time to die.
00:43:09No!
00:43:17He's at peace now.
00:43:26I'll miss you.
00:43:33As I listened to Marissa talk about the warm love that waited for Tad Garrison at the end of the tunnel, I knew that is what I needed to touch my emptiness.
00:43:52I know!
00:43:58Eric!
00:44:00Eric!
00:44:02Why didn't you forgive me?
00:44:08Now I'm burning forever!
00:44:10Burning!
00:44:12I kept having these nightmares. I didn't want my father to burn in hell forever.
00:44:26But I just couldn't forgive him for all the things he did.
00:44:34So tell me, do they all find peace and tranquility?
00:44:38Most of them.
00:44:40Yeah, what are the exceptions?
00:44:44I interviewed a woman last week. You wanna see it?
00:44:46Yeah.
00:44:48I just couldn't forgive him for all the things he did.
00:44:51So tell me, do they all find peace and tranquility?
00:44:53Most of them.
00:44:58Yeah, what are the exceptions?
00:45:00I interviewed a woman last week. You wanna see it?
00:45:08Yeah.
00:45:21Okay, um, I just remember that it was very cold and I was freezing and I started to sink.
00:45:28But, uh, it wasn't to the bottom of the pond and I know that sounds crazy, but it was to some place really horrible.
00:45:40It was very, very dark.
00:45:44And these things, they were terrible. They started to claw at me and dig in me.
00:45:50And I couldn't see them, but I could hear them and they were laughing at me.
00:45:57And then I started to feel like I was burning and I was so scared.
00:46:04I said, God, please help me, please, please.
00:46:11And they just kept laughing at me and telling me that there's no one here that can help you now.
00:46:19There's no one here that can help you.
00:46:21There's no one here that can help you.
00:46:23I'll be right back.
00:46:33Yeah, I'm sorry, I told you.
00:46:37I'm sorry.
00:46:39But I'm sorry, that can help you.
00:46:42I have a couple more of them.
00:46:44A lot of them report feeling this horrible pain,
00:46:47like they're being punished for their life actions.
00:46:49A lot of them sense the presence of malevolent beings.
00:46:52We like to refer to these as non-positive near-death experiences.
00:46:57Who are these people?
00:46:59I mean, are they credible?
00:47:01I've never heard of any non-positive near-death experiences.
00:47:04Well, who wants to say they died and went to hell?
00:47:06So this pretty much explains the cultural impact
00:47:10of afterlife mythology.
00:47:12Where you go after death depends on what your belief systems are in life.
00:47:16You create your own heaven or you create your own hell.
00:47:21That's pretty much what I think.
00:47:26It's what I wanted to believe.
00:47:28I didn't want Reverend Latimer's hell to exist.
00:47:32Not in reality.
00:47:40I wanted...
00:47:42No, I needed that positive point of light.
00:47:46That bath of warm, non-judgmental love that seemed to exist between here and eternity.
00:47:52There was only one way to be healed and to disprove the existence of hell.
00:48:06It just took a little courage, that's all.
00:48:08It just took a little courage, that's all.
00:48:36You think some people called him?
00:48:37There would be too many people on earth.
00:48:38But my love does not break quite.
00:48:39Don't break quite much.
00:48:41There can be a lot of life.
00:48:42There can be a lot of people on earth.
00:48:43It could be a lot of men, but it could be an wave.
00:48:44Please use therups of love.
00:48:45There can be a lot of people on earth.
00:48:46There is one world around you.
00:48:48There is another world around you.
00:49:49What's going on?
00:50:00I've got a great idea.
00:50:02What?
00:50:03Well, you know how hard it is to record a near-death experience, right?
00:50:06Well, yeah.
00:50:07Well, maybe you've been goad about it the wrong way.
00:50:10Instead of waiting around to record one of these uncontrollable experiences, why not induce a near-death experience and see what happened?
00:50:19Well, for one thing, that would be scientifically irresponsible, not to mention unethical and illegal.
00:50:25Technically, you'd be killing someone.
00:50:28Think about it.
00:50:29This is everything you've worked for, Marissa.
00:50:31You could disprove all the superstitions about fear and death.
00:50:36I don't know.
00:50:38People just don't volunteer to die.
00:50:40I am.
00:50:41Think of how credible this would be.
00:50:45I'm physically and mentally fit.
00:50:46I graduated at the top of my class, and I'm a well-respected doctor.
00:50:51Besides, I have nothing to lose.
00:50:52You need to see a psychiatrist.
00:51:01I thought I was.
00:51:04Eric.
00:51:16I'm not your therapist.
00:51:18And I can't do anything more for you than I already have.
00:51:30Are you dumping me?
00:51:33No.
00:51:35Terms like dump suggest dating, and we...
00:51:39It's just that everything you've been going through right now, the last thing you need is a relationship.
00:51:44You're right.
00:52:02Bad idea.
00:52:03She just couldn't understand.
00:52:15I was beyond pills, shock therapy, or whining about my emptiness.
00:52:21I just had to end the pain.
00:52:24I needed that warm point of love.
00:52:26I knew it was just beyond death.
00:52:28I needed to know where my father was.
00:52:31What?
00:52:43I got to know where my father was.
00:52:48Right?
00:52:49I needed to know where my father was.
00:52:52I could just wait rest.
00:52:54What's happening?
00:52:55I had to know where my father was and did his mother.
00:52:57So weren't mine.
00:52:59I don't know what that was last night.
00:53:30Hi, sweetie. How's my boy? Good. Good to see you. How's your day? Good. Yeah? How's everything going at the hospital? Lots of sick people. Oh, really? So, why do you have that funny look in your eye?
00:54:00What look in my eye? It's that same look that you had when you came by to tell me that you were going to the Himalayas to climb Mount McKinley or whatever it was.
00:54:11Everest, Mom. Well, Everest, McKinley, whatever. So, what gifts? What's up?
00:54:18Nothing. I just came by to tell you that I wouldn't be able to have dinner with you tonight.
00:54:24Well, why not? I've got everything all ready.
00:54:28Um, I've got a...
00:54:30Are you sure you can't stay?
00:54:33Something important.
00:54:36I'm a...
00:54:37Mr. Doctor.
00:54:46I love you.
00:54:47I love you, too.
00:54:48I just felt so ashamed.
00:55:04How do you tell your own mother, the woman who gave you the gift of life, that you're going to engineer your own death?
00:55:11The toughest part was finding the right location, one that was in the hospital, where no one would discover what I was about to do.
00:55:36I settled for the boiler room.
00:55:39It took a little time, but I was able to find everything Carl would need to bring me back.
00:55:57The last thing I did was set up a video camera to record the event.
00:56:06The last thing I did was set up a video camera to record the event.
00:56:24I was able to record the event.
00:56:28Carl.
00:56:28So.
00:56:35Dr. Burt?
00:56:36Hey Carl, it's Eric.
00:56:39Eric, old buddy. I just got off work. Where are you?
00:56:42In the boiler room.
00:56:43Yeah, I might need your help on something.
00:56:45Sure, what do you need?
00:56:47Well, I just made myself a potassium chloride bolus cocktail.
00:56:51You want to join me?
00:56:53That'll kill you.
00:56:55Yeah, I'm pretty sure it will.
00:56:57But you're gonna revive me.
00:56:59Hey, what are good friends for, right?
00:57:01Eric, that's crazy.
00:57:03Don't do it. There's no guarantee I can bring you back.
00:57:06Listen, buddy. Everything you need is here.
00:57:10I figure I got about six minutes until I'm a vegetable.
00:57:16Eric!
00:57:18Eric!
00:57:30All right, Snow White.
00:57:33Time for the big bad apple.
00:57:59Excuse us please, Marissa. Come with me.
00:58:00What's going on?
00:58:01Come with me.
00:58:02What's going on?
00:58:03Come with me. I need your help.
00:58:04Why?
00:58:05It's Eric.
00:58:06What?
00:58:07He's dead.
00:58:08He's meaning dead.
00:58:09He's dead.
00:58:10He's dead.
00:58:11He's dead.
00:58:12He's dead.
00:58:13He's dead.
00:58:14I just died.
00:58:15He's dead.
00:58:16I'm innocent.
00:58:18Come with me.
00:58:19He's dead.
00:58:20He's dead, yes.
00:58:22Time to die.
00:58:23I'm dead!
00:58:28He's messing with me.
00:58:29But he's dead as my Marot tava is dead!
00:59:00Oh, Carl, don't bring me back.
00:59:16Please, if you love me, buddy, you won't bring me back.
00:59:18This place is beautiful.
00:59:20It was some of you.
00:59:21No, it was better than that.
00:59:24It was like everything I'd ever seen or felt or tasted was a mere shadow of what this was.
00:59:29And it wasn't just my imagination.
00:59:31I mean, the brain couldn't just generate this.
00:59:34Was it heaven?
00:59:35I don't know.
00:59:37It sure felt like it was.
00:59:38There he is.
00:59:52I can't believe he did it.
00:59:54Oh, no.
00:59:55I can't believe he was there.
00:59:57He's dead.
00:59:58There's no pulse.
00:59:59Here.
00:59:59Take this pad right here.
01:00:01I want one here and one here.
01:00:02And then I want you to breathe in.
01:00:14Why are you here?
01:00:16I came here to find out about you.
01:00:19About this wonderful place.
01:00:22Go back.
01:00:23It's not your time.
01:00:39Put him at 200 joules.
01:00:41All right.
01:00:49Clear.
01:00:50I'm going to 300.
01:01:02All right.
01:01:03Clear.
01:01:05Clear.
01:01:13Lord, I don't know what's going on right now.
01:01:16Oh, God.
01:01:17Please be with Eric.
01:01:20We're just protecting.
01:01:28Keep him safe.
01:01:34Come on, Eric.
01:01:36We're going to 360.
01:01:39Come on.

01:01:46Claire.
01:01:50Claire.
01:01:59Claire.
01:02:02Carl.
01:02:05If you can hear me, you've got to get me out of here.
01:02:07Father, surround him with your love.
01:02:22Put angels around him, Lord.
01:02:24We're going up to 300.
01:02:26All right.
01:02:26Clear.

01:02:29Help.
01:02:30Help me.
01:02:31Help me.
01:02:32Help me.

01:02:32Help me.
01:02:33Help me.
01:02:34Help me.
01:02:34Help me.
01:02:34Oh, no.
01:02:35What's happening to you?
01:02:37Do-
01:02:40Are you-
01:02:41Are you-
01:02:41Are you meeting me?
01:02:42Do something.
01:02:43Do something else.
01:02:44Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
01:03:14Keep him from harm and evil.
01:03:16Give him an amp of epi.
01:03:20Eric.
01:03:21Come on!
01:03:39Come on!
01:03:41Epi!
01:03:42Epi!
01:03:43We're going to circulate.
01:03:45If you breathe in, I'm going to circulate.
01:03:46All right?
01:03:51Come on!
01:03:52Come on, Eric!
01:03:53Check his balls!
01:03:54Is he the balls?
01:03:56God, if you exist, get me out of here.
01:04:03Please protect me.
01:04:06You're late.
01:04:13Too late.
01:04:14We made our decision a long time ago.
01:04:24To find new ways to give you pain.
01:04:27Except they don't do it all the time.
01:04:29They like to use the fear to torch you.
01:04:32To torch you.
01:04:33How did you end up here?
01:04:35Some friends and I decided to get together and try some heroin.
01:04:39My first time in the IOD.
01:04:44I think the real reason that I'm here is because all those times I should have been paying attention to the sermons.
01:04:50I was paying attention to Leslie Wilson and the third pew.
01:05:00Come on!
01:05:01Check his balls!
01:05:02Check the balls!
01:05:04No balls.
01:05:05Mr. Garrison?
01:05:21Mr. Garrison?
01:05:30It took you long enough to get here.
01:05:35Can you give me something to drink?
01:05:38I've got a face like you are Maria.
01:05:43We… We haven't seen any water!
01:05:44Please, Doc you've got to get me some…
01:05:48What's happening to him?
01:05:50You really wanna know?
01:05:54PlayStation матери might be jegoivir.
01:05:56Tad, may I ask you a question?
01:06:08Sure.
01:06:09What would you say if God were to ask you,
01:06:12Tad, why should I let you into my heaven?
01:06:14What would you say?
01:06:17I'd say I've been a good person most of my life.
01:06:21I go to church on Sunday.
01:06:22I love my wife and kids.
01:06:24I try to help people who are in need.
01:06:26I try not to hurt anybody, intentionally.
01:06:29That's what I tell them.
01:06:31Fine, but that won't get you or anyone else into heaven.
01:06:34The fact of the matter is that we've all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
01:06:37That's why we need Jesus.
01:06:39He's the only perfect person.
01:06:41Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life.
01:06:45No man comes unto the Father except through me.
01:06:49Stan, I love you like a brother.
01:06:50But we came here for lunch.
01:06:53Can't we have a nice lunch here?
01:06:56We have a nice lunch here.
01:06:58He was such a good man.
01:07:02They love good men.
01:07:06Okay, Mr. Outlaw, let's see who taught this.
01:07:10More time.
01:07:15More time to pay $60 trillion.
01:07:18Here's the portrait of those who try to earn their salvation by works, which is legalism.
01:07:25Legalism is keeping man-made religious rules, thinking that you are obtaining righteousness with God.
01:07:31It's the thought, I am good because I am doing good things.
01:07:36That's wrong.
01:07:38God hates legalism.
01:07:41Why?
01:07:42Because Paul said, if you can be saved by the keeping of the...
01:07:47With a punishment there at the end of that one.
01:07:49Newsom again, looking to throw.
01:07:51Has his man, nobles out of the backfield.
01:07:54Sheds a tackler out.
01:07:55I'm going to shock him again.
01:08:17I'm going to shock him again.
01:08:17I'm going to shock him again.
01:08:18My father may be here.
01:08:27Can we find him?
01:08:28He's not here.
01:08:30How do you know?
01:08:33Huh.
01:08:33Stupid humans.
01:08:35So easily deceived.
01:08:39You're going to burn here forever.
01:08:47Clear.
01:08:48Clear.
01:08:53Clear.
01:08:59God help me!
01:09:03I can bring him back!
01:09:05It's been too long.
01:09:06It's been too long.
01:09:08Clear.
01:09:09It's been too long.
01:09:10Clear!
01:09:12Have mercy on him, Lord.
01:09:16Have mercy on him.
01:09:17No!
01:09:19Clear!
01:09:20No!
01:09:21No!
01:09:21No!
01:09:22No!
01:09:23No!
01:09:23No!
01:09:25No!
01:09:26No!
01:09:26No!
01:09:26These are the final moments in which you may return to your body.
01:09:56I understand that, but I'd like to see my father first.
01:10:00That's not possible.
01:10:01I want to tell him I love him and that I'm sorry.
01:10:04Your father loves you and forgives you, just as your heavenly father does.
01:10:10If you'd only ask.
01:10:16Must go.
01:10:26It's real!
01:10:29Are we real?
01:10:31I'm telling you, I wasn't alive two seconds before I knew this thing was still after me.
01:10:34So you came here for safety?
01:10:36Yeah, well isn't a church supposed to be a holy ground?
01:10:38This is a building made of brick and wood like any other.
01:10:42It's who's inside of you that's going to protect you.
01:10:55It's here.
01:11:07I really wish you didn't call the police in on this one.
01:11:10It's going to get very complicated.
01:11:12Okay, what do you expect me to do?
01:11:15Eric's in danger of hurting himself and possibly somebody else.
01:11:19Besides the police, they don't have to know everything.
01:11:22He can't harm me.
01:11:47I'm covered in the blood of the lamb.
01:11:51My name is in the book of life.
01:11:53And I'm telling you, demon from hell.
01:11:56In the name of Jesus Christ, go back to where you came from.
01:12:21Is it gone for good?
01:12:26It can unless...
01:12:31Unless what?
01:12:33Unless you give your life to Jesus.
01:12:36That's the only thing that's going to save you and protect you.
01:12:40It said it owns me.
01:12:42It does.
01:12:43You and every man and woman born on this earth apart from the salvation of the Lord.
01:12:51You see, we were all born in sin.
01:12:54That's why hell has a right to us.
01:12:56I don't want to go to hell.
01:12:57I want to be with my father.
01:12:58It's not until we accept the free grace of God's work through Jesus Christ that we become his children and heirs of his kingdom heaven.
01:13:06Yes, that's what I want.
01:13:16Eric!
01:13:21Eric!
01:13:22Eric!
01:13:27Praise Jesus.
01:13:28Come on.
01:13:29Get on your knees.
01:13:30And repeat after me.
01:13:33Lord God, I am a sinner.
01:13:35Lord God, I am a sinner.
01:13:36And I'm asking for your forgiveness through your son, Jesus Christ.
01:13:40And I'm asking for your forgiveness through your son, Jesus Christ.
01:13:43Through his death and resurrection.
01:13:46Through his death and resurrection.
01:13:48Please!
01:13:49Save me!
01:13:50Please!
01:13:51Save me!
01:13:52Please!
01:13:53Save my soul.
01:13:54Please!
01:13:55Save my soul!
01:14:03Yes!
01:14:04Ah, yes…
01:14:05Ah, yes…
01:14:18Marissa?
01:14:23Thank you, Lord.
01:14:27Jesus.
01:14:30We need to talk.
01:14:32OK.
